[00:00:30] LetsNotMeets, A True Horror Podcast.

[00:01:00] This is a horror story that I will never, ever forget.

[00:01:24] Especially since it was my first encounter with a situation that was truly terrifying.

[00:01:31] Just to give you a little background information, I am 16 years old with two older sisters, both

[00:01:38] of which have young children between the ages of 1 and 2.

[00:01:44] One of my sisters who I'll call Katie lives in North Carolina with her husband and her

[00:01:49] son.

[00:01:51] They recently found out that they are expecting another child, so they decided to get a new

[00:01:56] vehicle.

[00:01:59] Katie's old car is only a few years old and is in working condition, so she decides to

[00:02:05] sell it to my other sister.

[00:02:07] We'll call her Lisa.

[00:02:11] She's driving her two year old around in a small Chevy coupe that has a poor air

[00:02:17] conditioner, not necessarily ideal for a toddler.

[00:02:22] So because Lisa wanted to bring her new car home for Christmas, I got to tag along with

[00:02:27] her and my niece to visit Katie in North Carolina.

[00:02:33] At the end of the trip, we would all drive back and it would be smooth sailing, right?

[00:02:39] I wish that I had known how wrong I was.

[00:02:44] On the morning of our drive home, we ate a good breakfast and we left early so that we

[00:02:49] could arrive at our hotel in Alabama at a decent time.

[00:02:53] Alabama would be the halfway point of our trip back to Texas.

[00:02:59] The hotel that we booked is pretty nice and is in a fairly decent area.

[00:03:05] I would know because earlier this year, I made a similar trip from Texas to North

[00:03:10] Carolina with my mom and we stayed at this exact hotel.

[00:03:15] Now, once we got near the hotel, my sister and I decided to pick up some Chick-fil-A because

[00:03:22] we were pretty hungry from our 10 hour drive.

[00:03:26] So was my niece.

[00:03:28] We got our food and headed back to the hotel.

[00:03:32] There's a light in front of the hotel and my sister and I have to wait right against

[00:03:38] the median since we are turning left into the parking lot.

[00:03:43] As we are coming to a stop, we notice there's a man standing there on the median.

[00:03:52] We take a look at him, exchange a glance with each other and then immediately lock the

[00:03:58] doors.

[00:04:00] Even if he didn't look the way he did, we still would have locked the doors because

[00:04:06] of our cautious state of minds.

[00:04:10] This guy gave me the heebie-jeebies.

[00:04:13] He looked like he had just gotten out of the hospital or something.

[00:04:17] His eyes, they were bloodshot.

[00:04:20] He had a scraggly beard and he looked extremely thin underneath his knuckle

[00:04:27] pucks sweatshirt and his pajama pants.

[00:04:31] My sister and I avoided all eye contact and

[00:04:35] we just pretended to be on our phones as he was clearly asking for money.

[00:04:41] Now my sister and I aren't snobs or anything, it's just that we're struggling financially

[00:04:46] ourselves and didn't necessarily have any money to spare.

[00:04:51] Not only that, but this man made us really uncomfortable.

[00:04:55] There was no way we were going to roll down our windows for him.

[00:05:00] I look up for a split second and I'm pretty sure our eyes meet, but I honestly can't

[00:05:06] be too sure because I was very shaken up after what happened.

[00:05:13] This high-looking guy in his knuckle pucks shirt continues to walk past my sister's

[00:05:20] driver's side window and stops at my niece's window.

[00:05:27] That's a cute baby you've got.

[00:05:29] He yells through the window as he stares at my niece.

[00:05:35] In that moment alone, I knew that this guy could be up to no good.

[00:05:42] He takes slow, drunken steps backwards and looks directly at my sister.

[00:05:49] I'll rape you and maybe I'll cut off your face too.

[00:05:56] He starts throwing his arms around like a maniac and he continues to yell and scream.

[00:06:04] I don't know if he was going to try and break my sister's window or what, but I am so thankful

[00:06:11] that the light turned green at that moment.

[00:06:15] We turned into the parking lot of the hotel and there are tears running down Lisa's

[00:06:20] face as her hands are shaking, reaching for the phone to call my mom and tell her that

[00:06:26] we are not staying at this hotel.

[00:06:31] Not when a man who threatened to rape her is right outside.

[00:06:36] Despite our exhaustion, we continue to drive the full 22 hours that it takes to get back

[00:06:42] home.

[00:06:44] Throughout the whole trip, we hype ourselves up on coffee, blast our favorite music and

[00:06:50] have some of our sister talks.

[00:06:53] But that man never leaves the back of our minds by the time we get to Louisiana.

[00:06:58] We're running low on gas and my niece needs a diaper change so we pull off the highway

[00:07:03] and stop in the parking lot of an empty well-lit gas station.

[00:07:09] Now when I say empty, I mean that the convenience store was closed and there's not a single

[00:07:15] car in the parking lot.

[00:07:18] But at this point, we're ready to switch drivers and get this over with so I get out of the

[00:07:24] driver's seat and stand outside of the car while my sister pumps the gas.

[00:07:30] I become very awake when a white hatchback SUV pulls right next to our car and the

[00:07:38] man gets out.

[00:07:40] Not to pump gas, but to open the back of his SUV which is completely and entirely empty.

[00:07:49] My sister notices and quickly pays for the gas and wakes up my sleeping niece to change

[00:07:55] her.

[00:07:58] Lisa repeatedly tells me to get into the car as she watches this man with wary, fearful

[00:08:03] eyes.

[00:08:05] I simply refuse.

[00:08:07] There is no way that I will get into the car when my sister is still out herself in the

[00:08:13] most vulnerable state the two of us could be in.

[00:08:18] I would not let this man do anything to my sister.

[00:08:22] Eventually, the man goes to the front of his car and my sister is done changing

[00:08:27] my niece's diaper so that's when I get into the car myself.

[00:08:33] After we are all in the safety of the car, we lock the doors and drive away from that

[00:08:37] damn man and the gas station.

[00:08:40] For the rest of the night we're just filled with this paranoia and won't even stop to

[00:08:47] use a restroom.

[00:08:48] I have no idea what the intentions of the man with the hatchback was but I don't

[00:08:52] even want to know.

[00:08:55] So to the high looking hospital guy and the creepy hatchback guy in the middle

[00:08:59] of the deserted gas station let's not meet.

[00:09:14] This took place in 2016.

[00:09:17] I work for the USPS delivering mail in the Midwest.

[00:09:23] I've been at this job for about five years now and I can honestly say I've met and encountered

[00:09:30] some very unique individuals to say the least.

[00:09:36] I will preface this with a quick description of myself because I feel like it's relevant

[00:09:41] to the story itself and how I don't exactly look like your typical mailman.

[00:09:48] I'm a male around six foot, 195 pounds covered in tattoos with long blonde hair and gauges.

[00:09:59] Although people have said that I don't look very approachable, I am very friendly and

[00:10:05] kind to anyone that I encounter especially while working.

[00:10:10] Now back to the actual event.

[00:10:14] I had recently started a new route and since I was so low on the totem pole seniority wise

[00:10:22] this route wasn't exactly in the nicest of neighborhoods.

[00:10:27] Towards the end of the day I would finish my route down a long stretch of roads with

[00:10:33] a lot of decrepit houses that were either vacant or barely livable at least in my opinion.

[00:10:42] I only had a few deliveries remaining.

[00:10:44] My last package was for Mr. Smith and was what looked to be a medication from the VA hospital.

[00:10:53] Myself being a fellow vet thought well at least I know he and I will get along nicely.

[00:11:02] Mr. Smith's trailer was located down a small narrow dirt path that also had three or

[00:11:08] four other trailers around it.

[00:11:12] As I said this was my first day on this route so finding the actual trailer belonging to

[00:11:19] him was going to take a moment seeing that they weren't labeled with any actual numbers.

[00:11:27] Most of the trailers had garbage and random objects laying around everywhere as well as

[00:11:33] the windows being smashed with graffiti on them so I assumed they weren't occupied.

[00:11:40] There was only one that stuck out and looked halfway livable so I guess it had to be this

[00:11:45] one and I jumped out of my truck headed up the stairs and gently knocked on that door.

[00:11:52] My heard footsteps approached the door right before it yanked open to reveal a very

[00:11:58] large man at least six foot seven and easily pushing three hundred plus pounds.

[00:12:08] He bellowed out a booming, yeah?

[00:12:12] I quickly stammered out, hello sir I have a package that needs a signature for Mr. Smith.

[00:12:20] He replied, oh yeah that's my father but I can sign it for him.

[00:12:28] No problem.

[00:12:29] It's a frequent thing for family to sign for family so I handed him the slip of paper.

[00:12:36] He fumbled with it trying to find a surface to write on and it was then that I smelled

[00:12:43] the booze and quickly realized this guy was absolutely shit faced.

[00:12:48] It took him way longer than it should have to scribble a name onto the slip and he

[00:12:53] finally handed it back to me as I handed him the small parcel.

[00:12:59] I immediately dropped in, alright have a good evening man.

[00:13:04] As I was about to leap off that porch and head back to the office to call it a day and

[00:13:09] have a few drinks myself when I got home after this long week.

[00:13:16] Just as I was getting off the porch he yells out, hey is that a Michael the archangel and

[00:13:25] Lucifer tattooed on your arm?

[00:13:28] I turned around and replied, yeah it is.

[00:13:33] And I politely chuckled out loud.

[00:13:36] He said, I have a painting in the garage of them that looks exactly like that.

[00:13:44] I thought to myself, cool man that's pretty random.

[00:13:49] I told him, wow that's crazy man, cool.

[00:13:53] I returned to walking back to my truck to head out but as I did so he yelled out again.

[00:14:02] Want to see it?

[00:14:04] Internally to myself I thought, not really I really don't care to be honest but I

[00:14:10] quickly mumbled out.

[00:14:12] Sorry I need to be getting back to the office unfortunately.

[00:14:16] But before I could even get into my truck and leave he had darted over to the garage

[00:14:22] and insisted, come on it will only take a second.

[00:14:28] Without actually saying it he held out his arm and gave the after you motion to a now

[00:14:35] open garage.

[00:14:37] Before I even realized what I was doing I found myself stepping inside cursing myself for being

[00:14:44] a people pleaser and having a hard time saying no or being rude to people.

[00:14:50] Although it was around 5pm in the middle of summer with the sun still out shining

[00:14:55] brightly the garage was pitch black and I noticed the two small windows in it were

[00:15:01] covered with newspaper.

[00:15:04] A weird sketchy situation was now getting even sketchier.

[00:15:11] He closed the door and I was plunged into complete darkness.

[00:15:16] I muttered, uh kinda dark here.

[00:15:21] He followed back chuckling yeah give me a second I'll get the light.

[00:15:28] A few moments passed and I hear a soft click as he pulls the string on a tiny light bulb

[00:15:34] which barely illuminated anything.

[00:15:39] It was enough to notice that the floor was completely covered in empty liquor and beer

[00:15:45] bottles and there was also tons of trash and of course rusty tools strewn about.

[00:15:54] He moved past me and walked to what appeared to be the back room of the garage and stood

[00:16:00] at the threshold.

[00:16:02] It's back here come take a look he said with a sheepish grin on his face.

[00:16:11] I'm thinking I need to get the fuck out of here this dude is going to kill me for sure.

[00:16:17] By now alarm bells were shrieking in red flags were shooting up even higher than

[00:16:23] before.

[00:16:25] I've listened to enough let's not meet and let's read stories over the years to know

[00:16:29] better than to walk back there.

[00:16:34] I've been in quite a few sketchy situations over the years with a tour in Afghanistan

[00:16:39] and plenty of other instances but I'm no Billy badass by any means.

[00:16:45] However, I'm comfortable and confident enough to know that I can hold my own when I

[00:16:49] need to but I was pretty fucking scared.

[00:16:54] Something about this man was off his mannerisms his presence itself just creeped me the fuck

[00:17:01] out and now I need an excuse to get the hell out of here.

[00:17:07] So I finally took hold of the wheel and put my politeness and kindness in the back

[00:17:11] seat if I knew I pressed on the enter button of my scanner that was located on

[00:17:18] my hip it would beep loudly seeing as it hadn't actually scanned a barcode.

[00:17:25] I took my right hand and pressed the button and the loud beep emitted through the air

[00:17:32] and I put on the best acting scene of my life and pretended that I had gotten a message

[00:17:38] from my boss saying that he needed me back at the office as soon as possible.

[00:17:43] Shit!

[00:17:44] I said loudly.

[00:17:46] My boss needs me back ASAP for something.

[00:17:49] Sorry man, another time for sure.

[00:17:52] I said this as I backpedaled out and lightly jogged back to my truck.

[00:17:58] As I stole a final glance at him before leaving the grin was replaced with a stern, pissed-off

[00:18:05] grimace.

[00:18:07] When I returned to the office I relayed the story to my supervisor.

[00:18:12] He agreed it was creepy and weird.

[00:18:15] It couldn't comprehend why I had even entered that garage.

[00:18:21] He then also told me if I was uncomfortable making future deliveries I could notate the

[00:18:27] packages and Mr. Smith would have to come to the post office itself to pick up the

[00:18:32] packages.

[00:18:34] I felt bad that I would be forcing an older fellow vet to go out of his way regularly

[00:18:40] but I wasn't wanting to encounter his son again if I didn't have to.

[00:18:46] So from there on out, that's exactly what I did.

[00:18:50] Maybe he did have that painting back there, maybe he didn't.

[00:18:54] Either way, I don't really give a shit.

[00:18:58] So to the drunken Ed Kemper lookalike, let's not meet again.

[00:19:10] Temperature is personal.

[00:19:20] Everyone's idea of comfortable is unique.

[00:19:24] Often I find myself here in the vocal booth either too hot or too cold and it stresses

[00:19:28] me out, I can't focus but I'm happy that I have my Ember Wave bracelet.

[00:19:33] Most public places heat or cool spaces aiming for a temperature that's comfortable

[00:19:37] for only 80% of the population leaving many people thermally underserved.

[00:19:41] Not feeling thermally comfortable can contribute to loss of productivity, increase stress levels

[00:19:45] and can be mentally exhausting.

[00:19:48] Ember Wave is there when you need to leave the most.

[00:19:50] All you do is slap that thing on and press the activate button on your Ember Wave

[00:19:53] bracelet and you'll create this cool or warm sensation on your wrist.

[00:19:58] The sensation works with your body and your mind to make you feel more comfortable

[00:20:01] in a matter of minutes.

[00:20:02] It's based on the science of how your mind and body respond to temperature

[00:20:05] sensations.

[00:20:07] Ember Wave provides comfort and unpredictable climates, relief from stress and support for

[00:20:11] sleep.

[00:20:12] At the end of the day Ember Wave has a fall asleep mode that can help you maintain a comfortable

[00:20:15] temperature as you drift off to sleep.

[00:20:18] Some places where you can use Ember Wave include your over air conditioned office,

[00:20:21] restaurants, airplanes after a workout, malls in the car crowded public places and

[00:20:26] more.

[00:20:27] Ember Wave was invented by three MIT scientists.

[00:20:29] They also won the pitch for AARP's Innovation and Aging Award live on Good

[00:20:33] Morning America and have been reviewed in a number of leading publications like Wired

[00:20:38] Fast Company, Vogue Men's Health and CNBC.

[00:20:41] Right now Ember Wave is offering my listeners $50 off when you go to EmberWave.com

[00:20:46] slash meet that's EMBRWave.com slash meet that's $50 off at EmberWave.com

[00:20:54] slash meet for all my listeners.

[00:20:56] Now back to the show.

[00:21:03] I used to live in Philadelphia just south of Kensington.

[00:21:17] If you know Philly at all, you know that Kensington is a shady place.

[00:21:22] It's the Walmart of heroin.

[00:21:25] In order to get my new job I would take a city bus in the morning up Kensington

[00:21:31] Avenue where there were always people shooting up on the sidewalks and plain

[00:21:36] view bent at their waists and swaying on the street corners or sleeping against

[00:21:42] buildings or on stoopes.

[00:21:45] These sites always made me very sad and a bit on edge.

[00:21:50] Two weeks passed like this, me taking the bus to work every morning without

[00:21:55] incident.

[00:21:57] Obviously that didn't last or I wouldn't have this story to tell you.

[00:22:03] That morning I took the bus as usual.

[00:22:07] My stop was on Kensington Avenue and my office was two blocks down a connecting

[00:22:12] street.

[00:22:14] I crossed Kensington Avenue and started up the first two blocks.

[00:22:19] As I naturally am an observant and nervous person I always keep track of

[00:22:25] what's going on around me.

[00:22:27] So I always glance down in the alley in the middle of the first block just to

[00:22:33] be aware of anything that might be going on in there.

[00:22:37] This morning was the first time that I actually saw something.

[00:22:43] I wasn't sure exactly what I saw but after taking a couple steps beyond the

[00:22:49] mouth of the alley I stopped.

[00:22:52] Was that a person laying on the ground?

[00:22:57] As I mentioned earlier it's not unusual to see people laying on the ground in this

[00:23:03] neighborhood but this one just seemed off.

[00:23:07] I did a quick 360 scan of the street.

[00:23:11] There were no other people walking around so I stepped backwards once,

[00:23:17] twice and then looked into the alley again.

[00:23:22] There was definitely someone laying on the ground and the side of them made the

[00:23:27] hair on the back of my neck stand.

[00:23:30] A shiver ran through me and I could feel my adrenaline rise.

[00:23:35] I needed to do something.

[00:23:37] I couldn't just walk away so I called 911.

[00:23:41] When an operator answered I told them where I was and what I thought I saw.

[00:23:46] A person laying in the alley in a way that didn't suggest they were simply

[00:23:51] sleeping off a high.

[00:23:53] Are they breathing?

[00:23:55] She asked me.

[00:23:56] I stumbled on my words.

[00:23:59] Uh, I don't know.

[00:24:02] They're in the alley and I'm on the street.

[00:24:06] Well can you go into the alley and check?

[00:24:09] My heart shot up into my throat and I felt like I needed to see this through

[00:24:13] since I was the one who called.

[00:24:16] Um, okay as long as you stay on the phone with me

[00:24:20] you'll stay on the phone right?

[00:24:23] Yes, but we need to know if they're breathing.

[00:24:28] I quickly glance around the street and find it still empty so I approach the alley.

[00:24:35] I'm crouching a bit stepping quietly,

[00:24:39] eyes darting around the alley as I slowly walk towards the person on the ground.

[00:24:45] Hello ma'am?

[00:24:48] No answer.

[00:24:50] Hello?

[00:24:51] Are you okay?

[00:24:54] I'm getting closer now and the scene suddenly clicks into place.

[00:24:59] There's blood everywhere.

[00:25:03] A large swipe of it and several large splatters on the fence to my right.

[00:25:09] Blood on the woman's fingers, blood in her hair and on her face.

[00:25:15] There's blood everywhere.

[00:25:17] Oh my god, holy shit!

[00:25:19] Can you speak?

[00:25:20] Can you hear me?

[00:25:22] Oh my god, she's breathing I think but barely.

[00:25:26] Please send help, please help her.

[00:25:29] I'm here to help you.

[00:25:32] I didn't even recognize my own voice.

[00:25:35] I'm unable to describe her face because it's completely destroyed

[00:25:39] and thickly caked with blood.

[00:25:42] I can only tell that she's black maybe around my age missing one shoe

[00:25:48] and that she seems cold, pressing her palms together between her thighs.

[00:25:55] I think she's been laying there all night.

[00:25:59] Then a loud noise rips through me, kicking my fight or flight instincts into overdrive

[00:26:06] so I run out of the alley.

[00:26:09] I don't remember what I heard and I don't remember hearing the dispatcher talk to

[00:26:13] me anymore.

[00:26:17] The police finally arrived a few minutes later.

[00:26:20] I flagged them down and directed them into the alley

[00:26:24] and I stood guard at the mouth so no one could crowd around or disturb them.

[00:26:31] A neighbor came out of his house and asked me if someone needed Narcan

[00:26:36] and I gravely told him that I didn't think that would help.

[00:26:41] More police and EMS workers arrived, relieving me of my post at the mouth of

[00:26:46] the alley, thanking me for calling because not many people in this area would

[00:26:51] bother and I probably saved her life.

[00:26:56] I gave an officer my contact information and watched as they rolled the woman out

[00:27:01] on the gurney and into an ambulance.

[00:27:05] Can I do anything else to help?

[00:27:06] I asked when a couple of officers answered in the negative, I walked the remaining block

[00:27:12] and a half to work to hug the office cat.

[00:27:17] I was in shock for several days.

[00:27:20] The next morning I had to give a statement to the detective.

[00:27:25] He showed me photos of the scene and asked me to describe where the woman had been

[00:27:30] and what else I had seen or noticed.

[00:27:33] When I was done, he told me that he would call me if I was needed in court

[00:27:37] but that woman was comatose so they probably

[00:27:42] wouldn't die but also wouldn't be able to remember what happened.

[00:27:49] I went back to work.

[00:27:52] Today I have PTSD which is triggered by sudden loud noises, everything from cabinet doors

[00:27:58] slamming closed to the sound of someone quietly saying my name when I don't expect it.

[00:28:06] To the person who beat that woman to death and got away with it, let's not meet.

[00:28:23] One night I was in bed with my boyfriend.

[00:28:26] It was about 1.30 am.

[00:28:29] I get a text from a random number saying is this and they say my name.

[00:28:36] Sorry for messaging late and out of the blue like this but I don't think my boyfriend's

[00:28:41] name is being honest with me and I need to talk to you.

[00:28:47] We exchange a few texts and basically they're accusing my boyfriend of cheating on both

[00:28:54] of us.

[00:28:56] Obviously annoyed but bear in mind it was June 2020 bang in the middle of coronavirus

[00:29:05] lockdown in the UK.

[00:29:09] We spent every day together since March.

[00:29:12] He denied it all and insisted he didn't know who this person was.

[00:29:18] The same number starts texting him, angry texts calling him a lying rat etc.

[00:29:27] Not looking good for the boyfriend but this is where it gets weird.

[00:29:34] This person gives no specifics they won't tell me their name what my boyfriend has

[00:29:40] done only that he was a liar and that I was an idiot for believing him.

[00:29:47] They would just reply with vague angry texts.

[00:29:51] The grammar and spelling were good but they would use slang words from our local area.

[00:29:58] We assumed maybe it was just some kids who found our numbers on Facebook and were having

[00:30:04] a laugh so we tried ignoring it.

[00:30:07] Then nothing until my boyfriend gets a text the following afternoon asking him to meet

[00:30:15] them at a local social club for some company.

[00:30:20] Me and a friend got straight into the car and went down there.

[00:30:26] No one was there and the club was closed because of Covid but we couldn't help but

[00:30:33] feel like we were being watched it was really weird.

[00:30:40] The next few days go by and the same number starts texting again.

[00:30:46] This time the text language is all weird there were spelling mistakes and they were saying

[00:30:52] things like why you too instead of you too that kind of thing.

[00:31:00] It felt like it was a different person texting me they seem a lot angrier with me now

[00:31:06] because I didn't believe them straight away.

[00:31:10] Then they text me you're so dull I see him leaving your house earlier LMAO.

[00:31:20] Cocky I said something along the lines of funny where's my house then and they reply

[00:31:27] with my fucking street name.

[00:31:29] They also knew things about us like the fact that he was in the army but I guess you

[00:31:36] can figure that out from his social media photos.

[00:31:40] I called them loads but it would just ring twice and then get cut off.

[00:31:47] I tried searching the number on WhatsApp and a few social media sites and nothing.

[00:31:52] Only on Instagram the number would come up with a location of a film company in the

[00:31:58] Netherlands when I googled the number its provider is Tizmi.

[00:32:05] I've never heard of it but it looks like it might just be a fake number.

[00:32:09] They've never asked for any money or anything like that.

[00:32:12] I don't get why someone would go through that much effort just to wind us up.

[00:32:18] The last text that I had was okay you will eventually see me LMAO creepy.

[00:32:30] Any advice please?

[00:32:34] LMAO

[00:32:36] LMAO

[00:32:38] LMAO

[00:32:40] LMAO

[00:32:42] LMAO

[00:32:44] LMAO

[00:32:46] LMAO

[00:34:35] Now back to the show.

[00:34:51] A couple of years ago I flew home to visit my family.

[00:34:56] I'd been out there for about a week then we headed to the coast for another week.

[00:35:03] Then back home for another.

[00:35:06] I totally needed a break.

[00:35:08] I had just ended an on again off again relationship like seriously one day on the

[00:35:14] next day off.

[00:35:16] It took seven months of putting up with it because you're supposed to fight for

[00:35:20] what is important to you right?

[00:35:23] Anyway I finally just said that it was done.

[00:35:28] No more chances.

[00:35:29] No trying to work it out.

[00:35:32] Just done.

[00:35:34] So with that chapter of my life being over I was more than happy to be somewhere else

[00:35:40] surrounded by family and began putting myself back together.

[00:35:45] I got there spent a couple of days sleeping a lot.

[00:35:49] My mother is a nurse and she was becoming concerned that there was something physically

[00:35:55] wrong with me.

[00:35:56] I honestly just needed a couple of days in a safe place where I could let my brain

[00:36:01] work on digesting the new life that I would have when I got back home.

[00:36:08] Before we left for the coast I met up with a friend from grade school that I had

[00:36:13] kept in contact with over the years.

[00:36:17] I thought that it would just be he and I but it didn't really phase me that another

[00:36:24] person was there.

[00:36:26] We just hung out for a while and then I needed to head back home because I had to take

[00:36:30] a backwards rural route to get home or take another route that would add another 20

[00:36:37] miles to my trek.

[00:36:40] Going backwards I needed to be able to keep an eye out for a deer so I said goodbye and

[00:36:44] told him that if he was ever in my neck of the woods to look me up then we could grab

[00:36:49] a drink and hang out.

[00:36:52] I told him to grab my number from my friend and out the door I went about half way home.

[00:36:59] I got this weird, queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach so I slowed way down

[00:37:06] and sure enough there was a deer in the middle of the road.

[00:37:12] Because I had slowed down I could see another car out on the road.

[00:37:18] I couldn't shake this queasy feeling so I figured it would be better to cut off and

[00:37:24] go down the main road because there were more places to stop.

[00:37:29] I seriously didn't want to stop in some rural farmer's driveway.

[00:37:34] I watched too many movies to make that mistake.

[00:37:39] So I get over to the main road and pull into a gas station.

[00:37:43] I sit there for a couple of minutes trying not to get sick to my stomach.

[00:37:48] I ran into the store, grabbed some water and ginger ale and came back out to my

[00:37:53] vehicle still unable to shake that queasy feeling so I started to head home from

[00:38:02] the gas station and knew that I didn't want to go straight home so I drove around

[00:38:07] taking this road or that road until that weird feeling started to go away.

[00:38:12] Then I went home.

[00:38:14] I read for a bit and went to sleep.

[00:38:17] Next day everything was fine and we headed off to the coast.

[00:38:23] Fast forward two weeks, the trip is over.

[00:38:27] I'm still feeling a bit fragile over the breakup but that's all.

[00:38:33] I figured I would begin the process of cleansing the environment of negative

[00:38:37] energies and then work through the baggage that came from the breakup.

[00:38:44] I knew there was a lot and it would take some time.

[00:38:48] So the next day I'm going about my business and everything as cool as can be when picking

[00:38:53] through the junk left behind after the breakup.

[00:38:58] I'm really just doing mindless things to zone out and not have to think way too

[00:39:03] much on the activity since my brain was working full time already.

[00:39:09] A little bit later that day my phone rings.

[00:39:13] I don't get a lot of calls so I assumed that there might be a family

[00:39:17] emergency and that I needed to answer at ASAP.

[00:39:22] The area code of the caller who is not in my contacts is the same as my cousin so

[00:39:28] I answered without a second thought.

[00:39:31] On the other end was the acquaintance I had met at my friend's house.

[00:39:37] SA we'll call him.

[00:39:40] It's a little weird having him calling me but I'm not thinking that anything is

[00:39:46] terribly out of the ordinary.

[00:39:48] I ask him what's up and he said that he was at the airport.

[00:39:54] I still find it a little odd but I say, oh that's cool.

[00:39:59] Where are you going?

[00:40:01] He said he's already landed.

[00:40:05] Again, I'm distracted and I really just wanted to get him off the phone so

[00:40:11] that I could get back to my mental side step and zone out while my brain chugged away.

[00:40:18] So I said that I hoped that he had a good time wherever he was.

[00:40:23] He said that he needed me to pick him up.

[00:40:27] What?

[00:40:29] Did you just say you needed me to pick you up?

[00:40:32] Yeah, he replied.

[00:40:34] I came to visit you.

[00:40:37] Pause there for a second.

[00:40:38] I know for a fact that I didn't show any more interest in him than general courtesy.

[00:40:45] Even the over-the-shoulder look me up comment was one of those polite things to say just

[00:40:51] because you never actually plan on seeing them again.

[00:40:55] Okay, unpause.

[00:40:58] Why did you come to visit me?

[00:41:00] I asked.

[00:41:01] He said he felt a deep connection and wanted to be with me.

[00:41:06] I'm starting to get angry as well as freaked out at this stage.

[00:41:12] I told him I didn't feel a connection at all and couldn't believe that he would fly across

[00:41:17] the country to see someone that he spent maybe two hours with.

[00:41:23] He said that I invited him.

[00:41:25] I said, uh, no.

[00:41:27] I was just being polite.

[00:41:29] It was a polite thing to say to some random person that has made a very small impression

[00:41:35] on me.

[00:41:37] He said that he needed to find a way back home then since I misled him.

[00:41:44] Misled him?

[00:41:45] What the fuck?

[00:41:48] Look me up if you're ever in the neck of the woods had led him to think that that

[00:41:54] was a basis for any sort of encounter that was meaningful.

[00:42:00] He said that he needed a place to stay until he could get the money for a plane

[00:42:03] ticket back.

[00:42:05] I said there were more than enough hotels that he could stay at while he got himself

[00:42:11] sorted out.

[00:42:13] He said he didn't have any money after buying the random one way plane ticket.

[00:42:20] So at this stage, I'm flabbergasted, angry and freaked out that someone would do that

[00:42:27] on a one way ticket.

[00:42:30] I finally caved and said that he could stay the night while he's sorted shit out, but

[00:42:36] I expected him gone no later than in the morning, the day after tomorrow.

[00:42:42] So I bring him back to my place, throw some pillows and a blanket on the couch and turn

[00:42:47] my head to my bedroom when he asks if he can sleep with me.

[00:42:53] No.

[00:42:54] Actually, no fucking way is that going to happen.

[00:42:59] I then point out that I have firearms and do not attempt to come in.

[00:43:06] The next day, I have to work, so I woke him up and told him he needed to get up and find

[00:43:11] a way home immediately.

[00:43:13] I told him that I had work but would check in on his progress because the next morning

[00:43:18] I was dropping him off at departures regardless of whether he had a way back or not.

[00:43:24] I went to work and he blew up my phone all day, wanted me to come back to the place for

[00:43:30] lunch.

[00:43:31] I told him no, I'm way too busy.

[00:43:34] I finally get home from work and I'm chuckling at a text that I got about my dog.

[00:43:40] That's when I noticed that he had rearranged everything and by everything I mean every

[00:43:47] room in the house had been rearranged.

[00:43:51] I flipped my lid and asked him why he thought it was normal to do what he did.

[00:43:58] Instead of answering, he asked me who I had been talking to.

[00:44:04] I said that it really wasn't any of his business but I had received a text from a

[00:44:08] guy watching my dog while I was on vacation.

[00:44:13] Color me shocked when he says that he doesn't want me to talk to that guy.

[00:44:19] No longer freaked out.

[00:44:21] Full force apocalyptic disaster is about to be unleashed and leave nothing but a smoking

[00:44:27] crater.

[00:44:29] Temperature drops about 10 degrees and I very calmly said to get his shit and that I was

[00:44:36] calling a cab to take him to the airport because he's fucking psycho.

[00:44:41] Side note, full rage has been achieved when it feels like the temperature drops

[00:44:46] and I speak very calmly.

[00:44:49] If I'm complaining about something, it's a quick burn.

[00:44:53] If I go monotone calm and tilt my head to one side slightly, this is where I hit

[00:45:00] arctic level anger.

[00:45:03] So he, unaware of the environmental change that had occurred and that the chances

[00:45:10] of survival are dropping by the second, decides to tell me that he used my computer

[00:45:17] and got my ex's phone number and they both agree that I'm heartless.

[00:45:23] We are fast approaching the epic scale disaster and he finally seems to notice

[00:45:28] how deep into rage I had sunk.

[00:45:32] I told him that it was unlikely that he would get into my computer because

[00:45:36] the password was a full quote from the art of war.

[00:45:41] I told him he had three minutes to get his stuff and get out or I wouldn't be

[00:45:46] responsible for what would occur.

[00:45:49] So still yelling insults at me, he gathers his stuff and leaves.

[00:45:54] I used to get calls and texts from him.

[00:45:56] I'd block one and six more would pop up but eventually it stopped.

[00:46:03] To this day I have no idea nor interest in knowing where he's at or if he made it back.

[00:46:10] So crazy dude, who would hop on a plane with a one-way ticket based on a random,

[00:46:16] polite comment.

[00:46:18] Let's not meet again.

[00:46:19] I started working for a couple and their separate businesses around 2007.

[00:46:37] I was in college and they were very accepting of my crazy school schedule

[00:46:43] and had told me that they would definitely work with me.

[00:46:47] They also gave me a raise from my previous job which helped seal the deal for me being

[00:46:53] a poor college student and all.

[00:46:56] Now I should tell you, I am one of those sees the good in everyone kind of people.

[00:47:03] My partner and brother both told me that they had an unsettling feeling about me going

[00:47:10] to work for them.

[00:47:12] I dismissed their worries as I felt that I knew them well enough.

[00:47:18] Fast forward to the end of 2008.

[00:47:21] I had been working for them for some time and things had gotten messy.

[00:47:27] I worked in the office with two other employees and we all felt the tension every day.

[00:47:33] I somehow got to be the lucky one to hear all of the drama.

[00:47:38] The couple was constantly arguing and they both brought up divorce multiple times.

[00:47:45] I got to hear it from both sides.

[00:47:48] The husband would come in and tell me that he was filing for the divorce while the

[00:47:53] wife would come in crying telling me that she wanted to work things out.

[00:47:58] This went on for some time.

[00:48:02] My partner didn't feel particularly comfortable with the husband.

[00:48:07] They just got a bad vibe from him.

[00:48:11] They specifically didn't like that I had to work out of the couple's home often.

[00:48:18] The husband was kind of a creep, like the kind of guy who tries to flirt with you but

[00:48:23] it comes off all wrong.

[00:48:26] I always brushed him off and chalked it up to their marital issues and I didn't

[00:48:31] play into it.

[00:48:33] Well, it came to a head in early 2009.

[00:48:37] I had had enough.

[00:48:39] I was tired of hearing all of the drama.

[00:48:43] I was just done.

[00:48:45] I put in my notice and as unprofessional as it was I asked that my resignation be

[00:48:51] immediate.

[00:48:53] I left the job and immediately felt relief.

[00:48:56] Fast forward a few months and the wife is now calling me.

[00:49:01] Now, I hadn't spoke to or seen her since I left.

[00:49:06] She asks me if I've seen the news and I say no, I hadn't.

[00:49:11] She said, okay good.

[00:49:13] I feel like I should tell you.

[00:49:16] You're going to see a new story about him.

[00:49:19] Her husband or my ex-boss.

[00:49:23] Go look him up and you'll see the story.

[00:49:27] I'm sorry.

[00:49:30] She was crying and sounded very sad and apologetic.

[00:49:34] I was nervous but decided to look him up.

[00:49:38] He had been arrested.

[00:49:40] The FBI was involved.

[00:49:42] Apparently, he had kidnapped a girl, molested her and tied her up and kept her

[00:49:50] with him until he dropped her off across state lines a couple of days later.

[00:49:57] It had happened right before I went to work for them.

[00:50:02] The girl survived but I'm sure has deeper wounds.

[00:50:07] I was in tears.

[00:50:09] I survived an attack when I was younger and had vowed that I would do my best to protect

[00:50:14] myself.

[00:50:16] I had completely ignored my partner and brother's worries.

[00:50:22] I had worked for this man for two years, had been in their home alone.

[00:50:28] I thank God every day he never tried anything.

[00:50:32] He's in prison now, right where he should be.

[00:50:37] But you want to know what unsettles me?

[00:50:41] His wife knew about it.

[00:50:43] She knew about it for two years and stayed married to him.

[00:50:48] So to my former employers, let's not meet again.

[00:51:18] This week's episode of Let's Not Meet, a true horror podcast.

[00:51:22] This week you have heard.

[00:51:23] High hospital guy and hatchback vehicle guy by listener Danny Quinn 04.

[00:51:29] A story by listener Alex.

[00:51:33] The woman in the alley by a listener who asked to remain anonymous.

[00:51:37] They know where I live by Charles McAllister.

[00:51:41] A story by an author who asked to remain anonymous.

[00:51:45] And finally, ex-boss.

[00:51:47] A Let's Not Meet Again story by listener Bridget.

[00:51:51] All of the stories you've heard this week were narrated and produced with the permission

[00:51:55] of their respective authors.

[00:51:57] If you want to hear your story on the show, again, send that in to Let's Not Meet Stories

[00:52:01] at gmail.com.

[00:52:03] Let's Not Meet, a true horror podcast is not associated with Reddit or any other message

[00:52:07] boards online.

[00:52:08] You'll notice I added that disclaimer to the beginning of the episode because I

[00:52:12] think a lot of listeners tune out as soon as the stories are over.

[00:52:16] Which I can understand in some cases, but if you are one that wants to submit a story,

[00:52:22] you know the ends of these episodes have important information for you.

[00:52:25] The hard working mods over at the subreddit for Let's Not Meet, they can't help you

[00:52:29] with getting your story on the show.

[00:52:31] So please do not contact them about the podcast.

[00:52:34] You can contact me directly at Let's Not Meet podcast at gmail.com for any questions

[00:52:39] and again for stories.

[00:52:41] That's Let's Not Meet Stories at gmail.com.

[00:52:44] I read all of the submissions and I will get back to you if your story is a good fit

[00:52:48] for the show.

[00:52:50] If you want to support the show, you can head over to patreon.com forward slash let's
