[00:00:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Singularity by Mike Moserino
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I've only been able to recall about three dreams in my entire life, but I'm not sure if you could classify my experience as a dream. Was it astral projection and out-of-body experience or perhaps something else?
[00:01:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Just to warn you, this starts off on a sad note. My mom passed away from cancer when I was 19. When it happened, I was devastated. It was so hard for me to accept.
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_01]: It just didn't feel real. But one year later, nearly to the date of her passing, I had an experience that completely changed my perspective on life.
[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: One night as I laid down to go to sleep, I was eventually consumed by a bright light. It almost seemed like a near-death experience.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Loved ones were all gathered around, but nobody was talking. Everything was completely silent, and I was filled with warm reassurance that everything in my life was going to be okay.
[00:02:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Now and long after it's my time to pass. I didn't see my actual body, but I felt myself move towards this light. That's when I saw my mom.
[00:02:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I still get goosebumps when I talk about this part. Seeing her felt beyond real. We didn't say anything to each other. We didn't have to.
[00:02:31] [SPEAKER_01]: When I saw her, I immediately felt her loving embrace. We both understood exactly what the other was thinking and feeling.
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_01]: She didn't act surprised to see me, just happy that I was there. It was like this was all meant to be.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: She was wearing a black dress and didn't have the angelic glow you might expect.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_01]: She never made any facial expressions either. This might sound a little unnerving, but it was far from that.
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_01]: This is where things get pretty crazy. My mom stuck out her hand and instinctively I grabbed it.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: From there, we shot straight up and sped through the sky, eventually ending up in what seemed like space.
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is weird because you'd think we were going to heaven or something, but nope. She just pulled me into space.
[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_01]: She brought me to this floating cliff type of thing that looked out over the earth.
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_01]: The whole time she was communicating to me that I was safe and continued to give me all the reassurance and love anyone could ever hope for.
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what she communicated to me for the bulk of the experience, safety, and that we are all part of something much bigger.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I've never felt more at peace. The whole experience was so therapeutic.
[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: She took me by the hand as we stood over the earth. I remember seeing flashes of many different colors, but red seemed to be the most prominent.
[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Which, like her black dress and lack of facial expressions may sound scary, but nothing about the experience made me feel even a little uneasy.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel that the point of this experience was for me to know that everything will be okay. That it's all taken care of.
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Afterwards, I was finally able to heal and come to terms with her passing.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't really shared this experience with a whole lot of people. In fact, I didn't tell my dad about it until a couple of years ago.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: We were having dinner with the rest of our family when somebody at the table mentioned that if somebody visits you in a dream after they die, it's a positive thing.
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: My dad looked over and asked me if I had any experiences like that. I knew he was asking about mom.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Imagine his surprise when I, matter of fact, said,
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, mom visited me a year after she passed.
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_01]: He's not a very emotional guy, but he started tearing up as I told him all the details I just shared with you.
[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Understandably so.
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm a bit of a skeptic and I lost my religion over time, but that experience pulled me closer to the more spiritual side of life.
[00:05:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I have no doubt there is more out there. We are all just a small part of it.
[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_02]: House by the River by Ellie. This story happened about 12 years ago when I was 19.
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_02]: My partner, my best friend and I had a phase where we were obsessed with ghost hunting shows.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_02]: None of us believed in ghosts or demons, but we enjoyed watching the TV shows centered around the subject and found it fascinating that the other people truly believed in this stuff.
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_02]: We were curious enough that we decided to get some ghost hunting equipment.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_02]: We bought an EMF meter, a night vision camera and a radio scanner.
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_02]: We also listed ourselves on a local website for ghost hunters.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Surprisingly, we received requests to investigate locations almost immediately.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Every place we searched came up with pretty much nothing outside of your typical creepy floorboards or specks of dust on night vision cameras.
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Initially our findings were easy to explain away until one night in March of 2012.
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_02]: We received an email that caught my attention right away because of how eerie and disturbing it was.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_02]: The woman detailed how she believed her house and possibly her husband, whom we'll call Doug, were possessed by demons.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02]: She lived in a remote part of my state about two hours away from us in a secluded area by the river.
[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_02]: The email talked about how she started seeing what she thought were ghosts in the moonlight walking from the river to her house.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_02]: This happened several years ago.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_02]: Since then, her house and husband had picked up a dark aura.
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_02]: She had begun hearing voices.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Doug had become distant and angry and he even began talking to himself.
[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_02]: This eventually led to him having violent outbursts where he punched holes in the air and he was able to get out of his house.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Doug was in the wall for no apparent reason.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_02]: If I had my adult 31 year old brain back then, I know it would have told me that I should have never responded to that email.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_02]: But I did.
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Then a couple of days later, my friends and I made our trek to the house by the river.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: Up until this point in my life, I had never really understood what people meant when they said that a house had a dark vibe or energy about it.
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_02]: But the moment my partner, my best friend and I got out of the car at this property, it was palpable.
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_02]: We all looked at each other to see if we were all feeling it as we proceeded to approach the door and knock on it.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_02]: The woman who sent the email greeted us and sat us down in the living room to further elaborate on her experiences all while Doug stood in the corner just staring at us.
[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I had a bad feeling about him right away, but I continued to listen to the woman's stories.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_02]: We then gave details about how we would go about our investigation.
[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Once they were happy with our plans, they said that they would be staying close by and planned to come back in the morning.
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_02]: They told us to let them know if we left early and then they left us to it.
[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_02]: The sun was already going down by this point, so we were eager to get our investigation going.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_02]: We started off by walking through the house with the EMF meter to try and lay out the base readings.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_02]: If you're familiar with ghost hunting shows and technology that is used, an EMF meter is a piece of equipment that detects electromagnetic frequencies normally given off by electronic devices.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: So the meter would spike around household appliances, walls with power lines in them, light fixtures, etc.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_02]: Theoretically, if these levels spike while not near any of those typical things, it could be an entity.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I know this theory is a bit out there, but as skeptics ourselves, we were willing to give it a shot.
[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_02]: After getting a base reading of the house, we all went to separate rooms, used the recording apps on our phones and started asking random questions to see if we could record a response.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_02]: We did this for about an hour, each taking turns, wandering into different rooms with the EMF meter and night vision camera, but ultimately we were getting nothing.
[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_02]: We eventually reconvened in the kitchen where we all sat around the table with the radio scanner.
[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_02]: The scanner, as seen on TV, will quickly scan through frequencies fast enough that you wouldn't be able to hear full words.
[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_02]: You'll just hear quick blips and static, but if a spirit or ghost is trying to communicate you might hear its voice.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_02]: We sat for a while without hearing much.
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_02]: Occasionally, and we were all certain of this, we would hear the word Doug, but we dismissed it.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Admittedly, I particularly found it eerie that every time we heard it, it was from the same voice in the same low-pitched tone.
[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_02]: It was getting late, around 11.30 or so, when the sequence of events all happened very quickly.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: We were sitting at the table when we all heard a woman's voice clearly yell from the back room,
[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Stop!
[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_02]: Since this was the first time we had all witnessed anything, possibly paranormal, we froze.
[00:11:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Then suddenly, we heard the bedroom door slam shut.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: Without thinking about it, I grabbed the night vision camera and ran towards the bedroom, and the others followed.
[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I opened the door and as I did, it felt like I got blasted by cold air.
[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_02]: It felt like I was walking into an air-conditioned shop off of the hot summer street.
[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_02]: And I felt this undeniable feeling that there was a fourth person in the room with us.
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: As we all gathered in the room, we started hearing a tapping sound coming from the closet.
[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_02]: My partner, who was braver than I, opened the closet door and let out a blood-curling scream.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_02]: We didn't know why at the time, but we all stood frozen in horror.
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_02]: My partner said that they had seen a face in the closet, but only for a second, which was why they screamed.
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_02]: When we later reviewed our footage and audio recordings right at that exact moment when we froze,
[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_02]: there was a deep male voice that said, Don't move.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_02]: But none of us heard that in person.
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_02]: While this was going on, we had left the radio scanner on in the kitchen
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and I noticed that I could hear something coming from it.
[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_02]: We rushed back out to the kitchen into our complete disbelief.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_02]: The scanner was repeating over and over again.
[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Then the bedroom door slammed again.
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_02]: We had had enough.
[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_02]: Without taking a second to question it or discuss what was going on with each other,
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_02]: we all bolted for my car and began driving down the dirt road that led back to the small town and eventually the highway.
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_02]: As we were going down the road, we saw headlights approaching us.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_02]: It was Doug's truck.
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_02]: I hit the gas and swerved around him.
[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_02]: He then flipped his truck around and began to follow us.
[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Meanwhile, I was getting texts from the woman saying that we needed to leave the house immediately
[00:13:30] [SPEAKER_02]: since Doug had become furious for no reason and was coming back to kick us out.
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Instead of taking the exit to the interstate,
[00:13:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I drove under the bridge where the highway crossed the road,
[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_02]: quickly skidded off into a turnout and turned off my car lights.
[00:13:49] [SPEAKER_02]: A few moments later,
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_02]: we saw Doug's truck speed past us and continue into the night.
[00:13:55] [SPEAKER_02]: When the coast was clear, we turned around, hopped onto the highway and headed home.
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_02]: My partner let the woman know what had happened at the house
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_02]: and what happened as we were trying to leave.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I know this story sounds crazy but coming from a former skeptic,
[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: I can at the very least say I have no idea what was going on in that house.
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_02]: But I will say to Doug and whoever or whatever else was in that house by the river that night.
[00:14:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's not meet again.
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Even when we know what brings us joy, finding the time for it can be challenging.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But when it feels like there's no time left for yourself,
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_01]: these non-negotiables, like therapy, become even more crucial.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Pooche Pooche by Sultry Mime
[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Does anyone on your show remember having an imaginary friend?
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I had one when I lived in a house in Birmingham, Michigan.
[00:16:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I was an only child growing up and was pretty lonely as a kid.
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I would make up fun games and play by myself.
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom heard me talking to someone in my room one day and asked me who I was talking to.
[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I said I was playing with Pooche Pooche.
[00:17:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't see them but I would know when they were there.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I was about five years old at the time.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: This was in 1976-ish.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Pooche Pooche would just show up while I was playing.
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't see them but I could feel them.
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_01]: At first, I felt like they were a little kid like me so I didn't think very much about it.
[00:17:24] [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't as fun as having my cousins there but it was better than nothing.
[00:17:29] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom would bring Pooche Pooche up and I think she thought it was cute.
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little odd as to how I interacted with them.
[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_01]: She started asking more questions about them and I really didn't have the vocabulary then to describe the situation.
[00:17:46] [SPEAKER_01]: After a while, Pooche Pooche started to scare me.
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: One day, I was sitting alone, coloring with my crayons inside our screened in porch
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_01]: when an incredibly strong feeling of being watched came over me.
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I suddenly knew Pooche Pooche was there and instead of feeling glad, I was scared.
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Because my mom had started asking me questions about them and telling people that I had an imaginary friend,
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I picked up that maybe it wasn't normal.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I decided to really try to see my imaginary friend.
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Pure horror came over me when I realized that they were not a boy or a little girl like me.
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_01]: They weren't even human.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_01]: This thing was ancient, so very old and long and skinny.
[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I was so freaked out.
[00:18:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I tried to play it off at first but then shouted,
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't want to play.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I ran out of there and told my mom that I was scared.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_01]: That was the last time this thing showed up.
[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We moved out of that house soon after and I never felt Pooche Pooche around again.
[00:19:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Since then, I've had many other experiences.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I am clairvoyant, have premonitions and lucid dreams that come true.
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I've lived in haunted houses, you name it.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_01]: As an aside, my life was changed at the age of 18 months
[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_01]: when I accidentally found an 8 a hit of mescaline.
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's pretty shitty to admit that some hippie party dude had lost it on the floor
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_01]: when trying to show it to my parents.
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_01]: They searched for hours but couldn't find it.
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Guess who remembers finding it, eating it and their entire trip?
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't even know that that was what happened to me until I was 15.
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I have been a really sensitive person since.
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I can remember my life since being an infant.
[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I remember being nonverbal but still being the core person I am today.
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I think in part that my consciousness was zapped online so young.
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I've never liked drugs and I'm on the spectrum.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I could just be a goofball or ill,
[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: but I do have more than anecdotal proof of a lot of my paranormal experiences
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and I think Pooche Pooche was my first.
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Eerie Truck Stop Occurrence by Fondue Xtreme
[00:20:48] [SPEAKER_02]: I want to share a strange experience from about 7 years ago that's been haunting me ever since.
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I've been a trucker for over a decade and I've heard all sorts of stories on the road,
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_02]: but this one still gives me chills.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I was driving through a particularly desolate stretch of highway in the Midwest
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_02]: when I decided to pull over at a truck stop for the night.
[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_02]: The place was pretty run down and there were only a few other trucks parked there.
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_02]: As I was getting ready to settle in,
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I overheard a couple of guys talking near one of the trucks.
[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_02]: They seemed on edge, whispering urgently.
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I caught snippets of their conversation and heard one of them say,
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Watch out for the lizards!
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought that it was a weird thing to say,
[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_02]: but I didn't think too much of it at the time.
[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_02]: I figured maybe it was slang, local lore or some kind of inside joke.
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_02]: As the night wore on, I started to drift off,
[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_02]: but then I heard footsteps crunching on the gravel outside.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_02]: It was strange because it didn't sound like just one person.
[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_02]: It was like a small group was walking around,
[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_02]: but the pattern was irregular, which was unsettling.
[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Curiosity got the better of me so I peeked out of my window.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't see much of the dim light,
[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_02]: but there were definitely some figures moving around in the parking area.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_02]: They seemed to be skulking between the trucks,
[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_02]: almost as if they were looking for something.
[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I told myself it was probably just some of the other divers stretching their legs,
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_02]: but the unease wouldn't go away.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Then suddenly, I heard a sharp knock at the door.
[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_02]: My heart leapt into my throat as I glanced at the clock and I saw
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_02]: it was well past midnight.
[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I called out, asking who it was, but there was no response.
[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Just the sound of footsteps shuffling away.
[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_02]: At this point, I was too scared to investigate any further,
[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_02]: so I made sure that the doors were locked and I tried to get some sleep.
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Just as I was drifting off again,
[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I heard a low hissing sound coming from somewhere nearby.
[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_02]: It was faint but persistent, like somebody whispering just out of earshot.
[00:23:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I squeezed my eyes shut and told myself that it was just my imagination.
[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_02]: But then I heard the footsteps again, closer this time.
[00:23:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Throughout the night, I could hear knocks and scratches on the other trucks around me.
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Every once in a while there was some sort of yelling or moaning coming from the distance,
[00:23:31] [SPEAKER_02]: like somebody or something was trying to communicate or call out.
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Occasionally, a smoky smell like a cigarette would waft through the air
[00:23:40] [SPEAKER_02]: when these creatures were close to my truck.
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_02]: The rest of the night was like a blur of eerie sounds and creeping dread.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I kept telling myself it was just some weird local prank, but the whole thing felt off.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_02]: As soon as the first light of dawn broke, I didn't waste a second.
[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I fired up my truck and got out of there without even looking back.
[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't want to see what might have been left around the trucks in the morning.
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_02]: To this day, I can't shake the feeling that there was something more to those lizards than meets the eye.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe there's something out there in those backwoods' truck stops that we're better off not knowing about.
[00:24:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Stay safe out there everyone and keep your eyes and ears open.
[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_02]: You never know what might be lurking in the dark.
[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Would you believe me if I told you there was a podcast that was haunted?
[00:24:56] [SPEAKER_02]: It's called Two Girls One Ghost.
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Hosts Corinne and Sabrina didn't want to believe it at first, but seven years later
[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_02]: and hundreds of accounts submitted by listeners later, they can no longer ignore it.

[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_02]: But be warned, side effects might include a haunting or two, so listen at your own risk.
[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_01]: As concerned parents, we decided to take him to our local hospital.
[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_01]: My son was diagnosed with RSV.
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_01]: For those of you who don't know, it's a respiratory virus that labors breathing.
[00:26:51] [SPEAKER_01]: We were told that he had to be admitted so they could monitor him.
[00:26:56] [SPEAKER_01]: The waiting room was packed but luckily we didn't have to wait long for a room.
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_01]: We were given a small, standard hospital room and a small room for a room.
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_01]: With two TVs, a small detail for later.
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I sat down with our baby boy in a chair closest to the bathroom
[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_01]: while my husband sat on the opposite side to my left
[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_01]: and our nurse stood across from us by the doorway.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_01]: As we listened to our nurse give instructions and explain treatment,
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the bathroom door slowly opened.
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I quickly turned my head towards the bathroom then to my husband to ask if he saw it too.
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But I didn't have to say a word.
[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_01]: By the time we made eye contact, I could tell by the look on his face he saw it too.
[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_01]: We both turned to our nurse but she continued with her instructions.
[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_01]: When she finished talking, my husband asked if she saw it
[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and if it was something that happens often.
[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_01]: She smiled and said,
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes I saw it too and no that doesn't happen.
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_01]: We quickly moved on to a different conversation
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_01]: which I was okay with since I was going to stay overnight with our son
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_01]: while my husband tended to our two other children at home.
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_01]: The night was pretty uneventful,
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_01]: just the night nurse coming in to check on my son.
[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_01]: The next morning my husband came back to the hospital
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and I went home to rest and see our two little ones who were with my mother-in-law.
[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I had made arrangements with my mom to give me a ride to the hospital
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_01]: so that my husband and I didn't have to drive two cars home
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_01]: since my son was doing so much better and was being sent home.
[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_01]: On the way back to the hospital,
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I told my mom about the bathroom door incident.
[00:28:47] [SPEAKER_01]: She is a huge skeptic and quickly tried to debunk it.
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_01]: We got back to our hospital room where my husband and son were waiting for us
[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_01]: with huge smiles, happy to see grandma.
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: My husband got a call from my mother-in-law that she couldn't get out of work
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_01]: so he had to pick up our kiddos.
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_01]: So my mom let him borrow her car
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and she decided to stay and keep his company while we got discharged.
[00:29:14] [SPEAKER_01]: We both sat in the living room talking and watching TV
[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_01]: when all of a sudden, the second TV turned on.
[00:29:22] [SPEAKER_01]: As soon as I pointed towards it to tell my mom, it shut off.
[00:29:28] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom and I looked at each other and she laughed and said,
[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_01]: you must be sitting on the remote.
[00:29:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I looked around my chair and found nothing.
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_01]: The remote was on a table behind me.
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom doesn't like to discuss paranormal things
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_01]: so she quickly changed the subject.
[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_01]: My son started to get restless while we waited to get discharged
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_01]: so I decided to take him on a little walk down the hallway.
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom said she would stay behind in case the nurse came in with our discharge notes.
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Pretty soon, my son and I got tired of walking and went back to our room.
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: When I walked in, I saw my mom sitting on a chair
[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_01]: with her phone in her hand but was looking up towards the door
[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_00]: with a blank stare.
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I said, mom, nothing.
[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Mom, still nothing.
[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_00]: By the third mom she turned towards me
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_01]: but it was as if she was looking through me, not at me.
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I started to panic because I thought she was having a stroke or something.
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I again said, mom.
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Her eyes snapped back to reality and this time her stare was focused on me.
[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_00]: All she said was, I just saw a white figure standing in the doorway.
[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I freaked.
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_00]: My mother, the skeptic, saw something.
[00:31:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We went home shortly after that.
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I discussed it at a later time with my mother
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: and she told me after she got home that day
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_01]: she had the urge to cry, cry with a lot of emotion but didn't know why.
[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_01]: She continued to tell me that that hospital is where her mother passed away.
[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I never got to meet her
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_01]: but I hear all the stories of her and how she was a lot like my mom.
[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: They were very close and her death was sudden and unexpected.
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Since I never got a scared or an unwanted feeling during our hospital stay
[00:31:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I like to think that maybe it was just her the whole time
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_01]: letting me know she was watching over us
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and that our baby was going to be okay.
[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Smiley Face by Ari
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_02]: I've been a long time listener
[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and I've never had a story to share until recently.
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to try and explain it the best way possible.
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I had to come home from work
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_02]: and I was exhausted and decided to take a nap.
[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_02]: It was wintertime so the sun was already down by 5 p.m.
[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm terrified of the dark
[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_02]: so I have a little blue night light next to my nightstand.
[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I always keep it on no matter what.
[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_02]: Shortly after I fell asleep I woke up
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_02]: and I was struggling to breathe.
[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_02]: It felt like I was choking.
[00:32:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I tried to move my body and open my eyes but I couldn't.
[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_02]: My brain or maybe my subconscious was telling me
[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_02]: that I was experiencing sleep paralysis
[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and usually when I fall into sleep paralysis
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm able to relax and count backward
[00:33:05] [SPEAKER_02]: until I either fall asleep or fully wake up.
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure why it works
[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_02]: but it works for me every time.
[00:33:15] [SPEAKER_02]: This time I tried as usual
[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_02]: but it wasn't working.
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_02]: I could feel the lump in my throat
[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_02]: I could feel my heart racing
[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_02]: but I couldn't do anything about it.
[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Suddenly I heard a voice in my mind
[00:33:30] [SPEAKER_02]: tell me it will be okay
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_02]: and everything went black
[00:33:34] [SPEAKER_02]: but then out of nowhere
[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_02]: I saw this man with all black eyes
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_02]: he was smiling at me
[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_02]: with huge teeth that ran from ear to ear
[00:33:46] [SPEAKER_02]: he scared me so badly
[00:33:49] [SPEAKER_02]: that I was able to snap back to being fully awake
[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_02]: I was gasping for air when I woke up
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_02]: and ever since
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I haven't been able to sleep
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_02]: unless I have my dog with me.
[00:34:26] [SPEAKER_01]: The story from Mike was a doozy.
[00:34:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah no kidding
[00:34:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I've gotten to know him personally
[00:34:31] [SPEAKER_01]: before he shared his experience with me
[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_01]: so narrating it definitely hit differently.
[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for opening up and letting us be true to the show Mike.
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_01]: You're a rad dude.
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it was really cool meeting him on FaceTime
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_02]: his band toured through Utah
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and you guys were just like hanging out and called me.
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah twice now always a pleasure.
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He actually reached out as a fan of the podcast
[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and now I'm a fan of his music.
[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I love it when stuff like that happens.
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Totally.
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_02]: So what were your thoughts on what happened?
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean Astral Projection was mentioned
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_02]: which can definitely happen involuntarily.
[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Astral Projection is definitely possible
[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: he didn't mention feeling any of the tingly vibrations
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_01]: that people usually experience
[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_01]: but maybe it could have all been induced after he fell asleep.
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the indicators were still there.
[00:35:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah his heightened senses
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_02]: traveling through space and the euphoria.
[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah I was also thinking it might have been like
[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_01]: a visitation dream
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_01]: which is its own specific type of phenomena worth looking into.
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you mentioned with the heightened senses
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_01]: when we talked about it in person
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01]: he emphasized how real it all felt
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: just so vivid and intense.
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And then of course the euphoria
[00:35:48] [SPEAKER_01]: being completely overcome by peace and comfort
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: it was a really cool story.
[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah visitation dreams typically give people
[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_02]: that same sense of closure too.
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Like how he wasn't able to accept or fully process
[00:36:02] [SPEAKER_02]: what happened for so long
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_02]: but that experience flipped a switch for him.
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It really did.
[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_01]: When he first talked to me about it
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_01]: he had this huge smile on his face
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and I understand that everybody goes through grief differently
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_01]: but as cliche as this might sound
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_01]: he had this spark in his eye
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_01]: that told me the experience wasn't just some vivid dream.
[00:36:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah whatever it could have been
[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_02]: there was definitely something more to it.
[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_02]: A total valid experience that was so awesome.
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of in line with the stories we've called
[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Happy Haunts I love it.
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Plus who's to say experiences like these
[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: are only ever one thing or another you know.
[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
[00:36:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it started out as a visitation dream.
[00:36:45] [SPEAKER_01]: His mom acted as his spirit guide of sorts
[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and she helped him astral project.
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_02]: I like that I like that hybrid theory.
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I see what you did there great album.
[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it's the only one of theirs I've ever listened to
[00:36:58] [SPEAKER_02]: but I still put it on every once in a while.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Meteora was okay but yeah hybrid theory is the only
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_01]: album of theirs that I actually listen to throughout the year.
[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll have to give it a listen.
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So in the hospital story I got chills when the author's
[00:37:13] [SPEAKER_01]: skeptical mom saw the white figure.
[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's plausible that grandma was watching over them
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_01]: or something.
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Definitely could have been.
[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_02]: That sort of thing always gets me thinking about
[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_02]: the same questions about spirits interacting with the living.
[00:37:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah like why and how some of them visit us
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_01]: or if they're stuck and need help crossing over.
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_02]: That and I actually get kind of bummed out
[00:37:37] [SPEAKER_02]: because it makes me think why hasn't anyone visited me
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_02]: or made it explicitly known.
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I think about that a lot yeah especially with people
[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_01]: who have really profound waking experiences.
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess it's kind of like the haunted object thing
[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: we talked about a couple episodes ago.
[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Does it depend on the person's ability to experience
[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: something or can certain things just impose
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: themselves onto us?
[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah I know what you're saying.
[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Am I not gifted enough to communicate with my grandparents
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_02]: or are they just not meant to be visiting me?
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Or God forbid our grandparents just don't
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_01]: feel like visiting us.
[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah payback for all the times we kicked and screamed
[00:38:19] [SPEAKER_02]: to go home as kids when we didn't want to sit at their house.
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly it.
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_01]: But also maybe those who have passed
[00:38:26] [SPEAKER_01]: realize the infinite nature of our spiritual existence.
[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
[00:38:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So they see no hurry to make certain things known
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: because in the grand scheme of things it's all going to be okay.
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_02]: Just like Mike was saying in his story.
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Well would you look at that perfect.
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah and I totally forgot to plug his music earlier
[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_01]: but definitely check out our show notes
[00:38:47] [SPEAKER_01]: for a link to his profile and
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_01]: you can listen to his band Aurora Wave
[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_01]: on all the usual services.
[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah yeah I subscribed I'm a fan.
[00:38:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff some heavy metal reggae hybrid stuff.
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So do you think the truck stop story was
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_01]: some elaborate hoax or a real cryptid occurrence?
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Well at first it felt like some kind of setup
[00:39:09] [SPEAKER_02]: because the whole thing was plotted out perfectly
[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_02]: with the whole horror movie style
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_02]: warning from the other truckers conversation.
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah watch out for the lizards.
[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it's like right out of a goose pumps book.
[00:39:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Then the protagonist settles in
[00:39:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's the creepy lizard-like noises outside of the truck
[00:39:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and the chapter ends right before the lizard man appears.
[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I love that about Arlsteins writing style.
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_02]: The end of every chapter is basically a jump scare cliffhanger.
[00:39:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah carried over really well into the TV show I thought.
[00:39:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Plenty of all those fake outs.
[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah that first episode with the haunted mask
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_02]: was full of them I can remember being so excited
[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_01]: when that first premiered.
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It was so good I wish that recent goose pumps movie was better
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: like it wasn't horrible but I don't know maybe
[00:39:57] [SPEAKER_01]: it's probably just nostalgia that won't accept anything new and modern
[00:40:01] [SPEAKER_01]: but it was alright.
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it was made for kids
[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_02]: you know kids from this generation now
[00:40:08] [SPEAKER_02]: and I think they did like a sequel
[00:40:10] [SPEAKER_02]: and then a reboot of the TV show but you know it's just not for us.
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_02]: That is correct.
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah but I did love that first TV series.
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I will say that initial Ninja Turtles reboot was pretty okay
[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of liked it.
[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_02]: I've actually liked a number of turtles reboots
[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_02]: they've had some of the TV series that I've liked
[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_02]: and I loved that new movie I thought it was a lot of fun.
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah they're doing good with that.
[00:40:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah that first episode of goose pumps
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_01]: that was like a huge event it was basically
[00:40:37] [SPEAKER_01]: in a prime time spot and every kid out there was just
[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_01]: so stoked I remember at school everybody was talking about it.
[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it was really cool just sitting at the TV watching it
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_02]: for the first time it scared the crap out of me.
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah and gave are you afraid of the dark or run for its money.
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Did you know that they used a real worm during that sandwich prank scene?
[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh yeah yeah I was reading about that a few months ago
[00:40:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I guess it was actually the actress's idea
[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_02]: the one who played Carly Beth
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_02]: and they did a bunch of takes too.
[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_01]: That's awesome actually realized that was the first goose bumps
[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_01]: book I actually read so it was kind of cool
[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: that that was the first episode.
[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_01]: That's perfect.
[00:41:15] [SPEAKER_01]: A really cool show.
[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it was a good show yeah.
[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_02]: Anyway getting back to the story
[00:41:19] [SPEAKER_02]: were you thinking the same thing that I was
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_02]: as soon as the trucker at the truck stop mentioned lizards?
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I'm thinking about a whole lot of lizards.
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah exactly yeah it explains the smoke smell
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_01]: which was probably from cigarettes.
[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_01]: There you go and some maybe some wine out of a bladder.
[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_03]: Mm-hmm.
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah the knocks, the scratches, the moaning
[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: we know what was probably going on.
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it was still a creepy story nonetheless
[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_02]: I had to include it because I thought that it was a good example
[00:41:51] [SPEAKER_02]: of how a person's innocence can affect their susceptibility
[00:41:55] [SPEAKER_02]: to believing that they are having a real terrifying paranormal experience.
[00:42:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it's a situation that could be explained away by normal
[00:42:04] [SPEAKER_01]: truck stop activities but from their perspective
[00:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: their truck was being cased out by creepy lizard people
[00:42:10] [SPEAKER_01]: but yeah I thought it was a really interesting story
[00:42:13] [SPEAKER_01]: the way it was presented.
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah it makes you wonder how many of our own personal
[00:42:17] [SPEAKER_02]: paranormal experiences were just the result
[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_02]: of the power of suggestion from doing this podcast
[00:42:23] [SPEAKER_02]: and reading all of these stories.
[00:42:25] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:42:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah when some of those experiences could be explained
[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_02]: away by some normal circumstances.
[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah that's the beauty of this show these stories aren't just a bunch
[00:42:34] [SPEAKER_01]: of horror stories meant to creep you out
[00:42:36] [SPEAKER_01]: they're all purportedly true first person encounters
[00:42:39] [SPEAKER_01]: and you can make your own conclusions from there
[00:42:42] [SPEAKER_01]: but it gives us all some personal perspective
[00:42:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and tells a story as if we were in their shoes.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_02]: Well if that's not a good promotional tagline for the podcast
[00:42:51] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what it is.
[00:42:53] [SPEAKER_01]: There we go I'm gonna quit this job and do some ad copy.
