[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Without further ado, here's the first story by Zion.

[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Listening to your podcast has triggered some forgotten experiences of mine.

[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Although I suppose they weren't forgotten in the traditional sense, they were more like memories purposely suppressed, seeing as I didn't want to remember them.

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Ever since my elementary school years, I've experienced the paranormal many times in my life.

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Certainly more than I'm comfortable with.

[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll start with one of my most compelling and unexplainable experiences.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I might submit more later, and maybe you guys can make some sense out of them.

[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_01]: As a disclaimer, I was very young, so I may miss a few details, but this is how I remember it.

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It was my first experience, but also the most terrifying.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I was maybe five or six in the tail end of my kindergarten days.

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: My mother had just moved from Miami with me and my siblings into some new apartments called Willow Wind Circle,

[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_01]: with her then-new boyfriend, now ex.

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: The apartments were in a small town called Barnesville in Middle Georgia,

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and anyone who's been there can attest to how old and dreary the entire town feels.

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Willow Wind Circle was no exception,

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and my siblings and I soon found ourselves wishing we had never moved.

[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_01]: The experience started when my siblings and I walked into the apartment from school

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: and saw my mom's boyfriend visibly shaken and nervous.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We asked him what was wrong, and though he probably shouldn't have confided in a couple of kids,

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_01]: he told us anyway.

[00:03:08] [SPEAKER_01]: He said he'd come home from work early,

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and as he was walking up to the door,

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: he saw our mom waving at him from the upstairs window.

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: He waved back and proceeded inside, expecting a greeting,

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: but she never came down.

[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_01]: He walked up the stairs looking for her, but she wasn't there.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_01]: It turned out she wasn't even home.

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: No one was, except him.

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_01]: He then went back downstairs,

[00:03:38] [SPEAKER_01]: trying to figure out what he'd just seen when we walked in.

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_01]: This properly creeped us kids out,

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: but we ultimately tried to chalk it up to his imagination.

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Some weeks later, he came to us all with another story,

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_01]: this time with us home.

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: He said he'd been napping upstairs,

[00:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and woke up to his door, slowly creaking open.

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_01]: He looked and saw my mom standing there,

[00:04:07] [SPEAKER_01]: smiling at him.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He assumed she was just checking in on him,

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_01]: but the way she kept staring was unsettling.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_01]: He sat up and asked her what was going on,

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: why she was staring.

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_01]: According to him, she didn't say anything,

[00:04:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and just started to walk out of view,

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: slowly, still smiling.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: He got agitated by her creepiness

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: and went to confront her,

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_01]: but she had vanished.

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Outside of his and my mom's bedroom,

[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_01]: there was a short hallway

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_01]: with only three places she could have gone.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Either into the upstairs bathroom,

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_01]: a door to the left if you're facing out of the room,

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: where she wasn't.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Into our room,

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: which was directly across from theirs,

[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_01]: where she also wasn't.

[00:05:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Or down the stairs,

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_01]: which he would have seen or at least heard.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: He was confused about how he could have missed her,

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_01]: or how she could have moved so fast.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_01]: He then came down the stairs

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: to where my siblings and I were watching TV.

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom was in the downstairs bathroom,

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and we heard him ask her

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_01]: why she'd been staring at him.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_01]: She told him she'd been downstairs the whole time,

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and we kids could vouch for her.

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_01]: After this event,

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_01]: we were all extremely nervous,

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and slowly started feeling afraid of her own home.

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Whatever this entity was

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_01]: seemed to shift its attention away from him

[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and focused on everyone else.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I started having vivid nightmares,

[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_01]: where people I knew were actually demons in disguise,

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: tormenting me once my guard was down.

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_01]: The dream shook me to my core,

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: and it all felt too real.

[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_01]: One day,

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: my mom's boyfriend noticed my stress

[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and suggested we all go out for a fun day,

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_01]: but only if our room was cleaned.

[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_01]: We cleaned it,

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_01]: and after my mom's approval,

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_01]: we all left the house.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: When we returned,

[00:06:20] [SPEAKER_01]: we hung out downstairs

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_01]: since the TV was there.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom's boyfriend went upstairs

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: to set some things down in their room,

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: then yelled at us kids to come up,

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: his voice filled with anger.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: As we ran up,

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_01]: he explained why he was so upset.

[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_01]: On his way up to his room,

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_01]: he'd passed ours

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and saw it was an absolute mess,

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_01]: as if a localized,

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_01]: bedroom-sized tornado

[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_01]: had torn through it.

[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He was rightfully mad,

[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_01]: thinking we'd lied about cleaning.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: My mom helped calm him down,

[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_01]: assuring him the room had been clean.

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_01]: We couldn't explain how it got so wrecked,

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: but we were all coming to the realization

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: that something else

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_01]: was in these apartments with us.

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The last straw for us

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: at Willow Wind Circle

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: came one night

[00:07:14] [SPEAKER_01]: when my siblings and I

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_01]: were woken up

[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_01]: by the sound of my mom

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: screaming and gasping

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: down the hall,

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_01]: with her boyfriend yelling,

[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_01]: asking what was wrong.

[00:07:26] [SPEAKER_01]: We tried to fall back asleep,

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_01]: but were too terrified,

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_01]: so we just laid there,

[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_01]: listening.

[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_01]: The next morning,

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I asked my mom what happened.

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_01]: This was when I first learned

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_01]: about sleep paralysis.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_01]: She explained

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_01]: that's what she had experienced.

[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_01]: She said she'd been paralyzed

[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_01]: on the bed,

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and suddenly,

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: a green,

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_01]: hag-like entity

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_01]: walked into her room

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and started choking her.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: She described it

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_01]: as looking disgusting,

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_01]: almost like a cliche old witch,

[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_01]: but covered in a sickly,

[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_01]: phlegm-colored ooze.

[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_01]: She couldn't breathe

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_01]: until she felt

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: a sudden compulsion

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: to call out to Jesus,

[00:08:13] [SPEAKER_01]: which is to be expected

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: due to our Christian faith.

[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Uttering his name

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: apparently made

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: the entity disappear.

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_01]: She started gasping for air

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and screaming

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: as soon as she was released,

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_01]: which was the sound

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: we'd heard.

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Needless to say,

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: we moved out

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: shortly after that

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and never looked back.

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Deep Sea Expedition Encounter

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: by I.M. Slav

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It's my uncle's.

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I want to clarify

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: that while I believe

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: this story to be true,

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: there's some room

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: for speculation.

[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll start with some background.

[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: My uncle has been

[00:09:18] [SPEAKER_00]: a marine biologist

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: for the last 50 years.

[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: He's now in his 60s

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: and has spent

[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: the last 25 years

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: teaching marine biology.

[00:09:26] [SPEAKER_00]: at a university.

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: His area of expertise

[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: has been the North

[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and Mid-Atlantic Oceans.

[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Growing up,

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: every time that we would

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: visit him in Cape Cod, Massachusetts,

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: he would tell us

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: countless stories

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_00]: of the deep sea expeditions

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: that he participated in.

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Before his teaching years,

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: he was primarily

[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_00]: a researcher.

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Every story was interesting

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and filled with wonder.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_00]: The story I'm about to tell

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: is the only one

[00:09:57] [SPEAKER_00]: that has me questioning

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: what is really out there

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: in the deep ocean.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: For the sake of this story,

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll refer to my uncle

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: as Uncle Jay

[00:10:06] [SPEAKER_00]: or just Jay

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_00]: to keep some semblance

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_00]: of anonymity.

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: This story begins

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_00]: when Uncle Jay

[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: was just getting ready

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: to embark

[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_00]: on an upcoming expedition

[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_00]: The research vessel

[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: that they would be traveling on

[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: was a medium-sized ship

[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: around 80 meters long.

[00:10:26] [SPEAKER_00]: One of those ships

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: had a crane

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_00]: and it was crewed

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: by maybe 20 men

[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: with about 15 marine biologists

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: of various specialities

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: attending.

[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: It was early summer

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_00]: in the late 1990s.

[00:10:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_00]: of the exact date.

[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Uncle Jay

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: was about 30

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: at the time.

[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: He said

[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_00]: they couldn't have had

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_00]: a better day

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_00]: for loading the vessel.

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_00]: The ocean was calm

[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and the weather

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_00]: was beautiful.

[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: They would be out at sea

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: for the next month

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and a half

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and all the weather forecast

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: looked promising.

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Once the ship was loaded,

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_00]: they embarked

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_00]: on their journey.

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It took them

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: approximately one week

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: to reach the ridge.

[00:11:08] [SPEAKER_00]: The primary goal

[00:11:09] [SPEAKER_00]: of this expedition

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00]: was to examine

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and possibly identify

[00:11:13] [SPEAKER_00]: new species

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00]: of sea life

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_00]: in that region.

[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Additionally,

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_00]: they wanted to examine

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_00]: how known species lived.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: They didn't have

[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_00]: any submarines,

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: so to find

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_00]: any new species,

[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_00]: they had

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_00]: an intriguing plan.

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Using the crane

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_00]: on board the ship,

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_00]: they attached

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_00]: cow carcasses

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: to the hook

[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: and lowered them

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: into the water

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_00]: near the ocean floor.

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_00]: A few feet away

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_00]: from the hook

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: were multiple cameras

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and lights

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_00]: to observe

[00:11:44] [SPEAKER_00]: any sea life

[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_00]: that might devour

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_00]: the carcasses.

[00:11:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Uncle Jay said

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that they had

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: about ten carcasses.

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_00]: They would begin

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_00]: their journey

[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_00]: in the northern portion,

[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: lower the carcasses

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_00]: into the water

[00:11:57] [SPEAKER_00]: for a few days,

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_00]: and move south

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: along the ridge

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: repeating the process.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_00]: To clarify

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_00]: for any confusion

[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_00]: about the cow carcasses,

[00:12:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I asked my uncle

[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_00]: to elaborate.

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_00]: On board the ship

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_00]: was a refrigerated container

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_00]: where they stored

[00:12:11] [SPEAKER_00]: the carcasses.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_00]: He couldn't remember

[00:12:13] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly how they got them,

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: but he thinks

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: that it was from

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_00]: a local dairy farm.

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Once the cows

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_00]: reached the end

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: of their lifespan,

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: they would sell them

[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: off to local butchers,

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_00]: etc.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_00]: In this case,

[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: a group of marine biologists

[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_00]: bought them.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_00]: When the carcasses

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_00]: were lowered in,

[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_00]: the ship

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_00]: would power down

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_00]: all engines

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and simply drift.

[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_00]: If they drifted away

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_00]: from the ridge,

[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_00]: they would power up

[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_00]: and very slowly,

[00:12:38] [SPEAKER_00]: move back into position.

[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Because this was

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_00]: a rather low-budget mission,

[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: the cameras on the hook

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_00]: didn't provide

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_00]: a live feed

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and all the footage

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: was thoroughly

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: examined afterward.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: That was about

[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_00]: 48 hours of footage

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: that they had to

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_00]: sift through

[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_00]: each time

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: they pulled the hook

[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_00]: back up.

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_00]: They had been at this

[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: for about a week

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_00]: and hadn't made

[00:13:02] [SPEAKER_00]: any new discoveries,

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_00]: but they did gain

[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: valuable footage

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: of rarely seen

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: sea life

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: consuming the cows.

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: At this point

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_00]: of the story,

[00:13:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Uncle Jay said

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: that everything

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: was going

[00:13:13] [SPEAKER_00]: according to plan.

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_00]: The seas were calm

[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_00]: and everybody on board

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_00]: was enjoying

[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_00]: their time.

[00:13:19] [SPEAKER_00]: They were onto

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_00]: their fifth

[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_00]: cow carcass.

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_00]: It was about

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_00]: 5 p.m.

[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: They hooked it up

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_00]: and lowered it

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_00]: into the water.

[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_00]: This portion

[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: of the ridge

[00:13:28] [SPEAKER_00]: was about

[00:44:00] [SPEAKER_00]: There's something so off-putting and red flaggy about the exposed mattress.

[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I have a thing with textures, so I totally get it in that regard.

[00:44:20] [SPEAKER_01]: the thought of scratching freshly cut fingernails against corduroy

[00:44:24] [SPEAKER_01]: has always made my skin crawl for some unknown reason.

[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why, but ever since I was a kid,

[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_01]: it was just this thing I've had in my mind.

[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that's all to say.

[00:44:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I know what you mean.

[00:44:34] [SPEAKER_01]: No exposed mattresses.

[00:44:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Great story from an independent.

[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Yep, classic haunted house tale.

[00:44:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I have the same exact thing with textures,

[00:44:44] [SPEAKER_00]: and my wife doesn't really get it.

[00:44:46] [SPEAKER_00]: But snagging fingernails on stuff, pretty much anything,

[00:44:49] [SPEAKER_00]: really, really gets to me.

[00:44:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Or when your feet brush against the sheet and it snags.

[00:44:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, oh.

[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Cutting your toenails and putting on some socks and they snag.

[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, no, no.

[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And I also have to like pull the tips of my socks down a little bit

[00:45:03] [SPEAKER_00]: so they're not tight on my toes.

[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.

[00:45:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I have all these weird things.

[00:45:07] [SPEAKER_00]: The biggest one for me is getting my fingernail caught

[00:45:10] [SPEAKER_00]: or scratched on the seatbelt buckle straps in a car.

[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_00]: No.

[00:45:21] [SPEAKER_00]: That was a good story.

[00:45:23] [SPEAKER_01]: That's definitely going in my list of favorites for sure.

[00:45:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It was interesting to hear about an exorcism from a religion

[00:45:28] [SPEAKER_01]: other than Christianity.

[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't really hear much of that, or at least we don't.

[00:45:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:45:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And the author said that it was called the rukia or something like that.

[00:45:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a healing process in Islam that's very similar to the popular Catholic exorcism.

[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's used to treat and heal people that are affected by magic,

[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_00]: evil spirits, and other supernatural issues, I guess.

[00:45:52] [SPEAKER_00]: They recite the Quran just like they would with the Bible and the Catholic exorcism.

[00:45:56] [SPEAKER_00]: But I always find it so fascinating how certain religions and spiritual practices

[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_00]: are just echoed throughout so many different religions and practices

[00:46:04] [SPEAKER_00]: from all over the world.

[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all so similar.

[00:46:07] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad the healing worked for her, though.

[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Spiritual attachments.

[00:46:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know, something about them is so scary.

[00:46:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even like to think about them.

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.

[00:46:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a no-go for me.

[00:46:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Possession movies are some of my favorite movies, though.

[00:46:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And I guess considering that it's the season for that kind of stuff,

[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_00]: do you have any horror movies planned that you want to watch in October?

[00:46:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd have to say Re-Animator is one of my all-time favorites,

[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been slowly working on a quest to watch all that the 80s has to offer

[00:46:48] [SPEAKER_01]: and leave no stone unturned, heavy hitters, and hidden gems alike.

[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I made a list as well, but we haven't even touched it

[00:47:21] [SPEAKER_01]: But it completely holds up today.

[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I've also been watching The Penguin on HBO.

[00:47:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Those are the two shows for me right now,

[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I went into it fully expecting it to be terrible.

[00:47:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I've heard good things.

[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I still need to finish The Batman.

[00:47:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I always get halfway through and feel so defeated

[00:47:39] [SPEAKER_01]: because I don't fully understand what's going on.

[00:47:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I got to give it a third and final try, though,

[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_01]: and try it with subtitles or something.

[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.

[00:47:47] [SPEAKER_00]: It's very, very different.

[00:48:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was neat hearing them all broken up like that,

[00:48:15] [SPEAKER_00]: like getting updates from a friend

[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_00]: after you're wondering how they're doing.

[00:48:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't imagine what it must be like

[00:48:21] [SPEAKER_00]: for the people who have had stuff happen

[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_00]: all throughout their childhood.

[00:48:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like, there's never an escape from it.

[00:48:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I guess at that point,

[00:48:29] [SPEAKER_01]: all you really can do is embrace it

[00:48:31] [SPEAKER_01]: and hope for the best.

[00:48:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Protect yourself however you find necessary.

[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_01]: The random alien sighting was brief but interesting.

[00:48:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Always cool to hear about, too.

[00:48:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I wonder if it's like

[00:48:40] [SPEAKER_00]: getting struck by lightning twice

[00:48:42] [SPEAKER_00]: or if aliens are somehow connected

[00:48:44] [SPEAKER_00]: to all of the usual ghostly paranormal stuff,

[00:48:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I guess it depends how you want to look at it.

[00:48:51] [SPEAKER_01]: As cheesy as it might sound,

[00:48:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I think everything in the universe

[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_01]: is connected in some way, shape, or form

[00:48:56] [SPEAKER_01]: more than we realize,

[00:48:57] [SPEAKER_01]: but at the same time, yeah,

[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_01]: a horse and a watermelon

[00:49:01] [SPEAKER_01]: don't seem to have a whole lot in common.

[00:49:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It just depends how you want to stretch the concept.

[00:49:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's hard to see the connection

[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_00]: between blacking out after seeing

[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_00]: that white orb in the sky

[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_00]: to that hat man encounter.

[00:49:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, maybe the unknown

[00:49:15] [SPEAKER_00]: just seeks out certain susceptible people.

[00:49:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, kind of like how you mentioned last episode,

[00:49:20] [SPEAKER_01]: is dreaming a gift or is not dreaming a curse?

[00:49:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I know there are good and bad spirits out there

[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_01]: and some people who see their experiences as a blessing

[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_01]: and others are definitely not okay with it.

[00:49:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's, I don't know,

[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there's just a lot of gray area.

[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true.

[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And maybe the dream world just isn't safe for everybody.

[00:49:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So in some ways, not dreaming could be a hidden blessing.

[00:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Wonderful way to look at it.

[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
