[00:00:23] [SPEAKER_01]: What Really Happened in My House by Edwan Forrey
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not one to believe in ghosts, and there are a lot of other people who are just as skeptical as I am,
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_01]: but I've had a few occasions that make me wonder.
[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll share one of my stories, and I would love to know what you think about it, and if you have any answers.
[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I have a close family member who says that she can see the dead.
[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_01]: She describes it as visions where she would see deceased people roaming around.
[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Believing you have a gift like that kind of freaks me out.
[00:01:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what my mom was thinking, but for some reason, she asked her one day if she saw anything in the house.
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I really wish she had said nothing, but she answered, though she wasn't clear about what it was.
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Fast forward about two months.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: My dad wakes up at five in the morning every day for work, and at six in the morning, he wakes us up for school.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: On this specific morning, it wasn't him that woke us up.
[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Police lights filled the air, followed by loud talking.
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Walking out of my room and down the hallway, I called for my dad.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_01]: He answered and told me to come into the living room.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I found him standing with two police officers who were writing down the things that my dad said.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Scared, I asked him what was going on.
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_01]: After the police officers left, he explained to me the most bizarre story.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: He woke up to find all the lights in the house turned on, as well as the TV in the living room.
[00:02:38] [SPEAKER_01]: His first thought was that I had woken up early and done it myself.
[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_01]: But when he got to my room, I was asleep.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Our entrance to the house is a door with a fence in front of it that needs a special key to be opened.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: When he got to the living room, the front door was wide open, but the fence was still shut.
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: You cannot open the front door from the outside without unlocking this fence.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_01]: The weirdest thing of all was that there was a pot of boiling water on our stove.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't even know how to use that stove, so it couldn't have been me.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: My dad and mom swear that it wasn't them.
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: There was no sign that anyone had entered the house.
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_01]: All the windows were locked from the inside, and we only had that one door.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: To this day, we still don't understand the situation.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm still freaked out by it.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Haunted University Campus by Avada Tequila
[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 2017, the night of Independence Day.
[00:06:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I was in college drinking with my boyfriend, Michael, and a small group of friends.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: One of these friends, Miles, is the caretaker of an old hotel-like building located on our university's main campus.
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: No one actually stays in this decrepit building.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It only gets shown on tours.
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It's also thought to be pretty haunted.
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably another reason nobody stays there anymore.
[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: However, after the bars closed, the group decided it'd be a good place to finish out our night.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Shortly after 2 a.m., the six of us arrived and Miles started to give a brief tour.
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I set my phone and charger down in the kitchen.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael and I used the bathroom while everyone else continued upstairs.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: I decided to pull back the shower curtain for whatever reason and saw that there was an entire wardrobe left behind.
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Dirty tennis shoes, male underwear, shorts, and a shirt were stacked in a small pile.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: If somebody was here, why did they leave all their clothes in the shower?
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Not thinking much of it, we went upstairs to catch up with the group, but we were still by ourselves at this point.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: There were three bathrooms, all with their doors open and none of the lights working.
[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It no doubt felt spooky, seeing these bedrooms look so vacant and unused.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It was eerie, but none of these rooms felt too ominous or sinister.
[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_00]: We walked into the primary bedroom, which was the last bedroom of the hallway.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It was by far the biggest room, and it even had its own large bathroom inside.
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: The light switches in this room worked, both in the bedroom and bathroom.
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_00]: After a few minutes of snooping, we joined everyone else on the roof.
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_00]: About 30 minutes had passed, and our friend Pete called, saying he was here.
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael and I excused ourselves to let him in the same door we both came through.
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_00]: On the way down from the roof, however, we noticed something odd in the corner of this dusty, abandoned attic.
[00:08:20] [SPEAKER_00]: From afar, it looked like different smoking pieces, bongs, and pipes.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably some prankster stoners looking for an exciting place to toke.
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Upon closer inspection, however, we realized it was actually at least 10 different lawn ornaments and other ceramic pieces placed in a semicircle,
[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_00]: all facing a battered children's doll.
[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: This little seance was the only thing in the entire attic not covered in dust.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't look right.
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_00]: We were a little on edge and continued downstairs.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: We passed by the bedrooms, noticing that the large main bedroom we were previously just in was now closed, and its door locked.
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: We were both sure we left it open, just as we had found it.
[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Confused and even more on edge, we continued downstairs to let Pete in.
[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: After our group rejoined in the attic, we decided to head down to the basement for some drinking games.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: On our way down, Miles was explaining some of the ghost lore of the residence.
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_00]: He told us how there is one room that always remains closed and locked,
[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_00]: because there were so many complaints about weird things happening inside.
[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: As if I somehow already knew, he brought us to the primary bedroom's door, still closed and locked.
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael and I quickly went into our story of how we were just in there.
[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_00]: But Miles thought we were just joking.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: As caretaker, one of his jobs is to ensure that door remains locked.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The rest of the night passed by without anything weird happening.
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We played flip cup and beer pong down in the basement for a long time.
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Although creepy looking, the basement was not any more foreboding than any other basement out there.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: 3am rolled around and I was ready to leave.
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael is always one to sneak out of a party on the down low.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: He's weird about goodbyes, and thought if he announced our departure,
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: his friends may try to persuade him to stay.
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: So we quietly made our way upstairs to the main floor.
[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael was leading the way.
[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: When we got to the top, he turned around and looked straight ahead at the original guest bathroom.
[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: He looked horrified, one hand over his mouth in shock,
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_00]: the other pointing directly at the bathroom.
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: His eyes were staring it down, looking through its open door.
[00:10:57] [SPEAKER_00]: To this day I don't know what he was staring at.
[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It was also too dark to make anything out.
[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I clearly thought this was a joke,
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_00]: and it's not out of the ordinary for him to try and spook me,
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00]: especially since our night at a haunted house was about to end
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00]: without anything too paranormal happening.
[00:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I tried talking to him, but he didn't move,
[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_00]: didn't reply, and wasn't even blinking.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: He just stared with his eyes wide, hand over his mouth, shaking.
[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Feeling a bit emboldened, I walked up to the bathroom,
[00:11:34] [SPEAKER_00]: turned on the light, and inspected.
[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_00]: There wasn't one thing out of the ordinary that I could tell.
[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Even those clothes were still piled on the shower floor.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I walked back out and told him that he could stop now.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Of course he didn't.
[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: So I stopped talking to him in hopes he'd grow tired of this charade.
[00:11:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I began packing my things, making sure I had all my necessities.
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I realized my phone and charger were in the next room over in the kitchen,
[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_00]: so I went over to grab them.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I answered a few texts in the kitchen before walking back.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael hadn't moved an inch when I returned.
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_00]: At this point, I began to worry.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Part of me still suspected he'd yell,
[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Boo! at any second and laugh.
[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But he had been in this rigid position,
[00:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: staring intently at the bathroom for about five minutes straight.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I slowly walked up to him and noticed he was crying.
[00:12:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Tears silently flowed down his face.
[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I have known this man for over three years
[00:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and can count on one hand the amount of times I had seen him cry.
[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I began to freak out.
[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I yelled his name, but he didn't move.
[00:12:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I gently grabbed his face and moved him back.
[00:12:53] [SPEAKER_00]: He regained his balance and went right back to his original position,
[00:12:57] [SPEAKER_00]: facing the bathroom,
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_00]: covering his mouth,
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: shaking with a tear-stricken face.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I pushed him more aggressively this time
[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and broke his eye contact with the bathroom.
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Finally, his trance ended.
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_00]: He absentmindedly wiped his tears
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and looked at me like I was crazy.
[00:13:17] [SPEAKER_00]: He even had the audacity to ask me if I poured beer on his face.
[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We argued for the entire walk back to my apartment
[00:13:26] [SPEAKER_00]: because he seriously did not believe my story.
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: He still thinks I'm making all of this up just to scare him.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: His story of how we left the house
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_00]: was that we walked up the stairs,
[00:13:38] [SPEAKER_00]: then he sat down and waited for me to pack my things.
[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Except I know for a fact that he was standing the entire time.
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_00]: There were also no chairs around.
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_00]: He said it only took a few minutes
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_00]: and that he stood up and supposedly pushed his chair in
[00:13:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and followed me out the door.
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_00]: He says when he got up from his chair,
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_00]: that's when he noticed me looking at him like he was insane
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: and this was his first clue that something was wrong.
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_00]: He even said he remembers a person being in the room with us,
[00:14:11] [SPEAKER_00]: watching me pack.
[00:14:13] [SPEAKER_00]: He said he couldn't make out who it was,
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_00]: but that he thought it was a friend of ours from downstairs.
[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_00]: No one from the party downstairs came up during this time.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_00]: This part scared me to my core.
[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_00]: After a full 24 hours,
[00:14:30] [SPEAKER_00]: he still would not admit he played any jokes on me
[00:14:33] [SPEAKER_00]: or did any of the things I described.
[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_00]: He actually gets pretty upset when I bring it up
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and does not want to talk about it anymore.
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_00]: How can this be possible?
[00:14:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Was this some sort of mild possession?
[00:14:47] [SPEAKER_00]: If anyone has any sort of explanation,
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I would love to hear it.
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I cannot get the image of his horrified,
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_00]: wide, tearful eyes out of my head.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_01]: The Night Shift by Random Boy
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I worked as an operator and shift manager
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: at an incineration plant for chemical waste.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Two years ago,
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I changed companies because at my previous job,
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there was an incident in which my crew and I nearly died.
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: The management pretty much said,
[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: you nearly died,
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_01]: so let's try to avoid it in the future.
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't come up with any new safety concept.
[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_01]: They were assholes.
[00:15:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Back to the story though.
[00:15:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I changed my workplace
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and now operate an incineration plant again,
[00:15:54] [SPEAKER_01]: but this one is much smaller.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty cool here,
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_01]: with a good work environment.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: The plant is part of an industrial complex in a forest,
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_01]: and around the incineration plant,
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_01]: there are only woods,
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_01]: except for one of the production departments,
[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_01]: which is our direct neighbor.
[00:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: A few months into the job,
[00:16:15] [SPEAKER_01]: some of the coworkers told me
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: that sometimes weird things happen in our department.
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_01]: They said that sometimes
[00:16:22] [SPEAKER_01]: you can hear footsteps near you
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_01]: or see a shadowy figure around the corner.
[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Sounds interesting, right?
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: they had a pretty good logical explanation for this.
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_01]: We not only use the incineration plant
[00:16:37] [SPEAKER_01]: for chemical waste
[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: in the form of liquids like solvents,
[00:16:41] [SPEAKER_01]: but we also burn away toxic fumes
[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that our other departments produce.
[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Our direct neighbor
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_01]: has one production line in their basement,
[00:16:51] [SPEAKER_01]: and the fumes that this line produces
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_01]: are transported via underground pipes
[00:16:56] [SPEAKER_01]: through our basement
[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_01]: into the plant to be incinerated.
[00:16:59] [SPEAKER_01]: These fumes are not super dangerous,
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_01]: but at high concentrations,
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_01]: they can cause hallucinations.
[00:17:07] [SPEAKER_01]: However,
[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_01]: the pipes are pretty old,
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_01]: around 50 years,
[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_01]: and they have seen better days.
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Due to the economy in recent years,
[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_01]: management decided to pause repair projects,
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_01]: including old, leaking pipes
[00:17:21] [SPEAKER_01]: like the ones in our basement.
[00:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: So if the AC is shut off
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_01]: for a longer period inside the basement,
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_01]: these fumes would concentrate,
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and when you work there,
[00:17:31] [SPEAKER_01]: you might experience hallucinations.
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: That said,
[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_01]: most of the weird stuff
[00:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: is probably caused by this.
[00:17:40] [SPEAKER_01]: But let's get on to my experience.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_01]: One month ago,
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I had a night shift,
[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and my co-worker for the night was sick,
[00:17:48] [SPEAKER_01]: so I was alone.
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: 99% of the night shifts,
[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_01]: nothing happens,
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and you just make two inspection tours
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_01]: through the plant
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: to gather some data
[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and check for issues.
[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't think anything
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_01]: about being alone,
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: even though it was my first time alone
[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_01]: at this company.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I was actually happy
[00:18:07] [SPEAKER_01]: because I planned to watch a movie.
[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_01]: During my first inspection tour,
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_01]: nothing unusual happened,
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: until I had to get some data
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_01]: from the basement.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I went downstairs,
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and I walked to the sensors
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_01]: to collect the data.
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Suddenly,
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I heard a creaking sound behind me
[00:18:24] [SPEAKER_01]: and footsteps walking down
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_01]: the middle stairs.
[00:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I turned around,
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_01]: but didn't see anything,
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_01]: of course.
[00:18:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But I was curious.
[00:18:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Why?
[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_01]: the stairs are sturdy as hell.
[00:18:38] [SPEAKER_01]: One of my co-workers
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_01]: is rather large,
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and when he walks down those stairs,
[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_01]: they don't make the same loud noise
[00:18:45] [SPEAKER_01]: that I had just heard.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So,
[00:18:49] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever made that sound
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_01]: needed to weigh
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_01]: at least 400 pounds.
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I concluded
[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_01]: that this must be
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_01]: hallucinations
[00:18:58] [SPEAKER_01]: caused by the fumes,
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_01]: so I decided to continue my tour
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_01]: and turn the AC on for later.
[00:19:04] [SPEAKER_01]: During this tour,
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I also saw a shadowy figure
[00:19:08] [SPEAKER_01]: around a corner,
[00:19:09] [SPEAKER_01]: but I still thought,
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_01]: nah,
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_01]: it's just the fumes.
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_01]: As I returned
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_01]: to the control room,
[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I turned on the AC
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: in the basement
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: to clear any fumes.
[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Four hours later,
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I made my second
[00:19:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and final inspection tour.
[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Like before,
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_01]: everything was normal
[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_01]: until I reached the basement.
[00:19:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I still shake a bit
[00:19:31] [SPEAKER_01]: when I remember this.
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I walked down again,
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_01]: remember the AC was on
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_01]: so there were no fumes,
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_01]: and as I descended,
[00:19:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I heard footsteps again,
[00:19:41] [SPEAKER_01]: directly behind me.
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I turned around,
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_01]: but there was nothing to see.
[00:19:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I continued to the sensors,
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_01]: but then I heard
[00:19:49] [SPEAKER_01]: the footsteps again,
[00:19:51] [SPEAKER_01]: this time not walking,
[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: but running.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I turned around in a flash,
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and I saw a shadow
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_01]: just in time
[00:19:59] [SPEAKER_01]: as it disappeared
[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_01]: around the corner.
[00:20:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I was shaken,
[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but I hurriedly collected
[00:20:05] [SPEAKER_01]: the data
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and wanted to go back upstairs
[00:20:07] [SPEAKER_01]: and leave the basement
[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: alone for the night.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: As I walked upstairs again,
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I heard those
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: charging footsteps
[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: again,
[00:20:16] [SPEAKER_01]: this time
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_01]: from two different directions,
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: one from behind
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and one from above.
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd had enough,
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and I charged up
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the stairs by myself.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: As I reached
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_01]: the top of the stairs,
[00:20:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I slightly turned around
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and saw a massive shadow
[00:20:32] [SPEAKER_01]: halfway up the stairs.
[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I ran back to the control room
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_01]: and shut the door.
[00:20:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Then I remembered.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I had the AC turned on.
[00:20:41] [SPEAKER_01]: That meant
[00:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: there shouldn't be
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_01]: any fume concentration
[00:20:45] [SPEAKER_01]: high enough
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01]: to cause this kind
[00:20:47] [SPEAKER_01]: of hallucination.
[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I was shaking
[00:20:50] [SPEAKER_01]: for real
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_01]: this time.
[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I stood up
[00:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: and pondered
[00:20:54] [SPEAKER_01]: whether I should
[00:20:55] [SPEAKER_01]: check the AC
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_01]: downstairs
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_01]: or wait it out.
[00:20:58] [SPEAKER_01]: As I stood by the door
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_01]: to leave the control room,
[00:21:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I heard the footsteps
[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_01]: behind the door.
[00:21:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Quiet footsteps,
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but definitely footsteps.
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I made the decision
[00:21:10] [SPEAKER_01]: not to be a hero
[00:21:11] [SPEAKER_01]: and just wait
[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: for the next shift.
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Later,
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01]: the next shift arrived
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and I told them
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_01]: about my night.
[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_01]: They laughed it off
[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and said that the AC
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: was probably acting up again.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I laughed
[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_01]: and agreed,
[00:21:26] [SPEAKER_01]: even though I didn't
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: completely agree
[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_01]: with the idea
[00:21:30] [SPEAKER_01]: that the AC was broken.
[00:21:32] [SPEAKER_01]: The next two days,
[00:21:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I had the weekend off,
[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: so I forgot about it.
[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Then on Monday,
[00:21:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I arrived for my early shift
[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_01]: and chatted a bit
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_01]: with the guys
[00:21:41] [SPEAKER_01]: from the night shift.
[00:21:42] [SPEAKER_01]: My quote-unquote
[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: experience
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_01]: came up again
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and I laughed it off
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_01]: like I had
[00:21:48] [SPEAKER_01]: a few days earlier.
[00:21:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But my co-workers
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_01]: didn't.
[00:21:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I asked them why.
[00:21:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Well,
[00:21:55] [SPEAKER_01]: as it turns out,
[00:21:56] [SPEAKER_01]: the AC
[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_01]: was completely fine.
[00:21:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But what really
[00:22:00] [SPEAKER_01]: made my experience
[00:22:01] [SPEAKER_01]: scary was something else.
[00:22:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Our neighboring department
[00:22:04] [SPEAKER_01]: which produces
[00:22:05] [SPEAKER_01]: these fumes
[00:22:06] [SPEAKER_01]: wasn't even running.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Due to a lack
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_01]: of customers this year,
[00:22:11] [SPEAKER_01]: they didn't have
[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_01]: all the lines active
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_01]: and during my night shift,
[00:22:15] [SPEAKER_01]: they had every production line
[00:22:17] [SPEAKER_01]: turned off.
[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_01]: That means
[00:22:20] [SPEAKER_01]: they couldn't have been
[00:22:21] [SPEAKER_01]: producing these fumes.
[00:22:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Which also means
[00:22:24] [SPEAKER_01]: whatever I saw
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_01]: was not a hallucination
[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_01]: caused by fumes.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_01]: But it was something else.
[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Whatever I saw
[00:22:33] [SPEAKER_01]: and heard in that basement
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_01]: was real.
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Not hallucinations
[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_01]: like many I had
[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01]: experienced before.
[00:22:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I experienced
[00:22:41] [SPEAKER_01]: something that scared
[00:22:42] [SPEAKER_01]: everybody there.
[00:22:43] [SPEAKER_01]: My co-workers
[00:22:44] [SPEAKER_01]: are now also cautious
[00:22:45] [SPEAKER_01]: about the basement
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_01]: and the manager
[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_01]: of the incarceration plant
[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_01]: reported this
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_01]: to the higher-ups.
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_01]: They started
[00:22:52] [SPEAKER_01]: an investigation
[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_01]: two weeks ago
[00:22:54] [SPEAKER_01]: but have yet
[00:22:55] [SPEAKER_01]: to find any logical cause
[00:22:56] [SPEAKER_01]: for the noises
[00:22:57] [SPEAKER_01]: or shadows.
[00:22:58] [SPEAKER_01]: They haven't found
[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: a solution either.
[00:23:00] [SPEAKER_01]: They now plan
[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_01]: to repair the pipes
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_01]: as soon as possible
[00:23:03] [SPEAKER_01]: and next week
[00:23:04] [SPEAKER_01]: we'll install cameras
[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_01]: and sensors
[00:23:06] [SPEAKER_01]: to find out
[00:23:07] [SPEAKER_01]: what's really happening
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_01]: in that basement.
[00:23:34] [SPEAKER_00]: The Apartment Imposter
[00:23:36] [SPEAKER_00]: by MTG
[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_00]: My long-distance girlfriend
[00:23:41] [SPEAKER_00]: visited me
[00:23:42] [SPEAKER_00]: in Austin, Texas
[00:23:43] [SPEAKER_00]: over a long weekend
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_00]: in July.
[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: It was one of her
[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_00]: last visits
[00:23:47] [SPEAKER_00]: before I moved
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_00]: to LA
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_00]: to be with her.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Nearing the end
[00:23:51] [SPEAKER_00]: of her visit
[00:23:52] [SPEAKER_00]: we decided to see
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_00]: the movie
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_00]: The Conjuring
[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_00]: which had just come out.
[00:23:57] [SPEAKER_00]: We made it back
[00:23:58] [SPEAKER_00]: to my place
[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_00]: after going
[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_00]: to a late-night showing
[00:24:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and eventually
[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_00]: went to bed.
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_00]: The next morning
[00:24:04] [SPEAKER_00]: my girlfriend
[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_00]: told me
[00:24:06] [SPEAKER_00]: that she woke up
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_00]: in the middle
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_00]: of the night
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_00]: feeling uneasy.
[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_00]: She rolled over
[00:24:11] [SPEAKER_00]: to look at the clock
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_00]: radio I had
[00:24:13] [SPEAKER_00]: on my nightstand
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and sure enough
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: it was 3.17am.
[00:24:19] [SPEAKER_00]: This was the exact
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_00]: time in the movie
[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_00]: that paranormal
[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_00]: activity in the house
[00:24:24] [SPEAKER_00]: would begin.
[00:24:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought that it was
[00:24:27] [SPEAKER_00]: a strange coincidence
[00:24:28] [SPEAKER_00]: but didn't really
[00:24:29] [SPEAKER_00]: give it much thought
[00:24:30] [SPEAKER_00]: beyond that.
[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_00]: We spent the rest
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_00]: of the day together
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_00]: went to dinner
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_00]: and hung out
[00:24:35] [SPEAKER_00]: at my place.
[00:24:37] [SPEAKER_00]: My girlfriend's flight
[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_00]: left the following morning
[00:24:40] [SPEAKER_00]: so we stayed up late
[00:24:42] [SPEAKER_00]: to make the most
[00:24:43] [SPEAKER_00]: of our time together.
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_00]: However,
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't take
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_00]: any more days
[00:24:47] [SPEAKER_00]: off of work
[00:24:48] [SPEAKER_00]: so I had to go in
[00:24:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that morning.
[00:24:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I woke up
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_00]: at 4.15am
[00:24:53] [SPEAKER_00]: got ready
[00:24:54] [SPEAKER_00]: as quietly
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_00]: as I could
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_00]: and headed out.
[00:24:57] [SPEAKER_00]: At around 6am
[00:24:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I got a call
[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_00]: from my girlfriend
[00:25:01] [SPEAKER_00]: which I thought
[00:25:02] [SPEAKER_00]: was incredibly weird.
[00:25:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Why was she up?
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And more importantly
[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_00]: why is she calling?
[00:25:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Hello?
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey,
[00:25:12] [SPEAKER_00]: she said.
[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_00]: something happened.
[00:25:17] [SPEAKER_00]: She assured me
[00:25:18] [SPEAKER_00]: everything was okay
[00:25:19] [SPEAKER_00]: but she was freaked out
[00:25:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and didn't want
[00:25:22] [SPEAKER_00]: to talk about
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_00]: what happened
[00:25:23] [SPEAKER_00]: over the phone.
[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I prodded
[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and insisted
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_00]: she tell me
[00:25:27] [SPEAKER_00]: but she was adamant
[00:25:29] [SPEAKER_00]: that she couldn't
[00:25:30] [SPEAKER_00]: talk about it
[00:25:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and that it would
[00:25:32] [SPEAKER_00]: just have to wait
[00:25:33] [SPEAKER_00]: until I got home.
[00:25:35] [SPEAKER_00]: I was dumbfounded,
[00:25:37] [SPEAKER_00]: weirded out
[00:25:38] [SPEAKER_00]: and generally
[00:25:39] [SPEAKER_00]: confused
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: and concerned.
[00:25:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't begin
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: to guess
[00:25:43] [SPEAKER_00]: what had happened.
[00:25:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I hurriedly
[00:25:46] [SPEAKER_00]: got through
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_00]: the rest of the morning
[00:25:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and left
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_00]: about an hour early
[00:25:50] [SPEAKER_00]: to get back
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_00]: to my apartment
[00:25:51] [SPEAKER_00]: sooner.
[00:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I found my girlfriend
[00:25:54] [SPEAKER_00]: in the living room
[00:25:55] [SPEAKER_00]: camped out
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_00]: on the couch.
[00:25:58] [SPEAKER_00]: So,
[00:25:59] [SPEAKER_00]: what happened?
[00:26:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I asked.
[00:26:02] [SPEAKER_00]: She began
[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_00]: to relay
[00:26:03] [SPEAKER_00]: the story.
[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_00]: She said
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_00]: that she was
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_00]: briefly woken up
[00:26:07] [SPEAKER_00]: when I was leaving
[00:26:08] [SPEAKER_00]: but settled back
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_00]: to sleep.
[00:26:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometime later
[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_00]: though,
[00:26:11] [SPEAKER_00]: she heard a voice.
[00:26:13] [SPEAKER_00]: My voice.
[00:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It apparently
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_00]: sounded like
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I was standing
[00:26:18] [SPEAKER_00]: over her,
[00:26:19] [SPEAKER_00]: coaxing her
[00:26:20] [SPEAKER_00]: to wake up.
[00:26:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey,
[00:26:23] [SPEAKER_00]: the voice whispered.
[00:26:24] [SPEAKER_00]: She grumbled
[00:26:26] [SPEAKER_00]: and protested
[00:26:27] [SPEAKER_00]: as somebody
[00:26:28] [SPEAKER_00]: who is desperately
[00:26:29] [SPEAKER_00]: trying to sleep
[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_00]: does
[00:26:30] [SPEAKER_00]: and pulled the covers
[00:26:32] [SPEAKER_00]: over her face.
[00:26:34] [SPEAKER_00]: The voice said
[00:26:35] [SPEAKER_00]: something else
[00:26:36] [SPEAKER_00]: that she couldn't decipher
[00:26:37] [SPEAKER_00]: but again,
[00:26:38] [SPEAKER_00]: she was totally
[00:26:39] [SPEAKER_00]: under the impression
[00:26:40] [SPEAKER_00]: that this was me.
[00:26:42] [SPEAKER_00]: When she didn't respond,
[00:26:44] [SPEAKER_00]: the covers
[00:26:45] [SPEAKER_00]: were yanked
[00:26:46] [SPEAKER_00]: off her face.
[00:26:48] [SPEAKER_00]: She opened her eyes
[00:26:49] [SPEAKER_00]: and saw no one.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_00]: She sat
[00:26:53] [SPEAKER_00]: straight up in bed
[00:26:54] [SPEAKER_00]: and looked around
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_00]: the empty room.
[00:26:57] [SPEAKER_00]: That's when she
[00:26:58] [SPEAKER_00]: immediately went
[00:26:59] [SPEAKER_00]: into the living room,
[00:27:00] [SPEAKER_00]: turned on the TV
[00:27:01] [SPEAKER_00]: and called me.
[00:27:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Since she was alone
[00:27:04] [SPEAKER_00]: in my apartment,
[00:27:05] [SPEAKER_00]: she didn't want
[00:27:06] [SPEAKER_00]: to talk about it
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_00]: until I was
[00:27:08] [SPEAKER_00]: physically with her.
[00:27:10] [SPEAKER_00]: When I finally
[00:27:11] [SPEAKER_00]: made it back,
[00:27:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I listened
[00:27:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and played the part
[00:27:14] [SPEAKER_00]: of the strong boyfriend.
[00:27:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But truth be told,
[00:27:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I was freaked out.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Not only did I
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_00]: believe her story,
[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_00]: but as someone
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_00]: who has been
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_00]: long interested
[00:27:25] [SPEAKER_00]: in the paranormal,
[00:27:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I was never into
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: the idea
[00:27:28] [SPEAKER_00]: of experiencing
[00:27:29] [SPEAKER_00]: anything myself,
[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_00]: let alone
[00:27:31] [SPEAKER_00]: in my own apartment.
[00:27:33] [SPEAKER_00]: All I could think
[00:27:34] [SPEAKER_00]: about was the fact
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_00]: she had to fly back
[00:27:36] [SPEAKER_00]: to L.A.
[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_00]: in a few hours,
[00:27:38] [SPEAKER_00]: which would leave me
[00:27:39] [SPEAKER_00]: alone in a haunted
[00:27:41] [SPEAKER_00]: apartment for the
[00:27:42] [SPEAKER_00]: next six months.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_00]: After we said
[00:27:45] [SPEAKER_00]: our goodbyes
[00:27:46] [SPEAKER_00]: at the airport,
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I headed back
[00:27:47] [SPEAKER_00]: to my place
[00:27:48] [SPEAKER_00]: as the sun
[00:27:49] [SPEAKER_00]: started to set.
[00:27:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I wondered,
[00:27:52] [SPEAKER_00]: what awaited me
[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_00]: back in that apartment?
[00:27:55] [SPEAKER_00]: As it turns out,
[00:27:57] [SPEAKER_00]: nothing.
[00:27:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll admit,
[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I slept with
[00:28:00] [SPEAKER_00]: the bathroom
[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_00]: light on
[00:28:01] [SPEAKER_00]: for a couple
[00:28:02] [SPEAKER_00]: of weeks,
[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_00]: as I was
[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_00]: genuinely
[00:28:04] [SPEAKER_00]: creeped out,
[00:28:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but nothing
[00:28:06] [SPEAKER_00]: strange or scary
[00:28:07] [SPEAKER_00]: happened for the
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_00]: rest of the time
[00:28:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I lived there.
[00:28:10] [SPEAKER_00]: My girlfriend
[00:28:11] [SPEAKER_00]: flew back out
[00:28:12] [SPEAKER_00]: in February,
[00:28:13] [SPEAKER_00]: stayed the night
[00:28:14] [SPEAKER_00]: without incident,
[00:28:15] [SPEAKER_00]: and we loaded
[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_00]: up the moving
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_00]: truck and headed
[00:28:17] [SPEAKER_00]: out to L.A.
[00:28:18] [SPEAKER_00]: the next day.
[00:28:20] [SPEAKER_00]: There was one
[00:28:21] [SPEAKER_00]: thing, though.
[00:28:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Way back
[00:28:23] [SPEAKER_00]: when I first
[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_00]: moved in,
[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I was checking
[00:28:25] [SPEAKER_00]: my mailbox.
[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_00]: As is often
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_00]: the case,
[00:28:28] [SPEAKER_00]: there was some
[00:28:29] [SPEAKER_00]: junk mail
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_00]: addressed to
[00:28:30] [SPEAKER_00]: the previous
[00:28:31] [SPEAKER_00]: tenant.
[00:28:32] [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard
[00:28:33] [SPEAKER_00]: to explain,
[00:28:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but as I held
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_00]: the mail
[00:28:36] [SPEAKER_00]: and looked
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_00]: at the tenant's
[00:28:37] [SPEAKER_00]: name,
[00:28:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I got the
[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_00]: strangest feeling
[00:28:40] [SPEAKER_00]: of unease.
[00:28:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I felt so
[00:28:43] [SPEAKER_00]: drawn to the
[00:28:44] [SPEAKER_00]: name and
[00:28:45] [SPEAKER_00]: continued staring
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_00]: at it for a
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_00]: moment longer.
[00:28:48] [SPEAKER_00]: All I can
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_00]: really say is
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_00]: that it felt
[00:28:50] [SPEAKER_00]: like something
[00:28:51] [SPEAKER_00]: happened to
[00:28:52] [SPEAKER_00]: this person.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not a
[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_00]: sensitive,
[00:28:55] [SPEAKER_00]: empath-psychic
[00:28:56] [SPEAKER_00]: or anything
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_00]: like that,
[00:28:58] [SPEAKER_00]: so there was
[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_00]: nothing beyond
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_00]: that very
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_00]: general feeling.
[00:29:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Was this
[00:29:03] [SPEAKER_00]: incident and
[00:29:04] [SPEAKER_00]: what happened
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_00]: to my
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_00]: girlfriend
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_00]: connected?
[00:29:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't
[00:29:07] [SPEAKER_00]: know.
[00:29:08] [SPEAKER_00]: What do
[00:29:09] [SPEAKER_00]: you think?
[00:29:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I used
[00:29:36] [SPEAKER_01]: to mock
[00:29:36] [SPEAKER_01]: everyone
[00:29:37] [SPEAKER_01]: believing in
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_01]: such things
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_01]: by J.S.
[00:29:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Cake J.
[00:29:41] [SPEAKER_01]: The story
[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm about
[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_01]: to write
[00:29:43] [SPEAKER_01]: happened
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_01]: four years
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_01]: ago and
[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_01]: it's somewhat
[00:29:45] [SPEAKER_01]: related to
[00:29:46] [SPEAKER_01]: God.
[00:29:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway,
[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I grew up
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_01]: in a
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Christian
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_01]: family,
[00:29:50] [SPEAKER_01]: although I
[00:29:51] [SPEAKER_01]: had never
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_01]: been a big
[00:29:52] [SPEAKER_01]: fan of
[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_01]: churches,
[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_01]: mainly because
[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_01]: my neighbors,
[00:29:55] [SPEAKER_01]: who go
[00:29:56] [SPEAKER_01]: every day,
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_01]: aren't great
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_01]: people and
[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_01]: behave in
[00:29:58] [SPEAKER_01]: ways I
[00:29:59] [SPEAKER_01]: never would.
[00:30:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Long story
[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: short,
[00:30:01] [SPEAKER_01]: when I was
[00:30:02] [SPEAKER_01]: in my teens,
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: we used to
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: go to this
[00:30:04] [SPEAKER_01]: cheap bar
[00:30:05] [SPEAKER_01]: for obvious
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: reasons.
[00:30:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Cheap
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_01]: alcohol and
[00:30:07] [SPEAKER_01]: the fact that
[00:30:08] [SPEAKER_01]: it was the
[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_01]: last place
[00:30:09] [SPEAKER_01]: to close.
[00:30:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The pub
[00:30:11] [SPEAKER_01]: is situated
[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_01]: in a
[00:30:12] [SPEAKER_01]: historic
[00:30:13] [SPEAKER_01]: building and
[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: there are
[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: demonic-like
[00:30:15] [SPEAKER_01]: drawings all
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_01]: over the
[00:30:16] [SPEAKER_01]: tops of the
[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_01]: walls.
[00:30:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Right where
[00:30:18] [SPEAKER_01]: they meet
[00:30:19] [SPEAKER_01]: the ceiling.
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I never
[00:30:20] [SPEAKER_01]: paid much
[00:30:21] [SPEAKER_01]: attention to
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: it as we
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_01]: all gathered
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: in there to
[00:30:24] [SPEAKER_01]: get wasted.
[00:30:25] [SPEAKER_01]: This bar has
[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_01]: three main
[00:30:26] [SPEAKER_01]: areas.
[00:30:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The first is
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_01]: the ground
[00:30:28] [SPEAKER_01]: floor, which
[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_01]: is connected
[00:30:29] [SPEAKER_01]: to the bar
[00:30:30] [SPEAKER_01]: and where
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: regular people
[00:30:31] [SPEAKER_01]: hang out.
[00:30:32] [SPEAKER_01]: The second
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_01]: area is
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_01]: upstairs where
[00:30:34] [SPEAKER_01]: people go to
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_01]: get drunk
[00:30:35] [SPEAKER_01]: without being
[00:30:36] [SPEAKER_01]: seen.
[00:30:37] [SPEAKER_01]: We live in a
[00:30:38] [SPEAKER_01]: small town.
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_01]: That's where
[00:30:39] [SPEAKER_01]: we used to
[00:30:40] [SPEAKER_01]: crash.
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_01]: The third
[00:30:41] [SPEAKER_01]: floor area
[00:30:42] [SPEAKER_01]: is underground,
[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_01]: kind of like
[00:30:44] [SPEAKER_01]: a cave,
[00:30:45] [SPEAKER_01]: where people
[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_01]: played pool and
[00:30:46] [SPEAKER_01]: smoked weed.
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_01]: The bar
[00:30:48] [SPEAKER_01]: usually closed
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_01]: at 2am,
[00:30:50] [SPEAKER_01]: but one
[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_01]: day, our
[00:30:51] [SPEAKER_01]: friend got so
[00:30:52] [SPEAKER_01]: drunk that we
[00:30:53] [SPEAKER_01]: couldn't even
[00:30:54] [SPEAKER_01]: move him.
[00:30:55] [SPEAKER_01]: He was very
[00:30:56] [SPEAKER_01]: stubborn, even
[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_01]: when he
[00:30:57] [SPEAKER_01]: couldn't stand.
[00:30:58] [SPEAKER_01]: So they let
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_01]: us stay until
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_01]: about 4am that
[00:31:01] [SPEAKER_01]: day, hoping that
[00:31:02] [SPEAKER_01]: he'd either fall
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_01]: asleep or sober
[00:31:03] [SPEAKER_01]: up enough to
[00:31:04] [SPEAKER_01]: realize that he
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: needed to go
[00:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: home.
[00:31:06] [SPEAKER_01]: All we had to
[00:31:07] [SPEAKER_01]: do was help
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_01]: clean the
[00:31:08] [SPEAKER_01]: tables and put
[00:31:09] [SPEAKER_01]: the chairs on
[00:31:10] [SPEAKER_01]: top of them.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01]: After doing
[00:31:12] [SPEAKER_01]: so, we
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: could keep
[00:31:13] [SPEAKER_01]: drinking, but
[00:31:14] [SPEAKER_01]: only at the
[00:31:15] [SPEAKER_01]: bar, and
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_01]: we couldn't
[00:31:16] [SPEAKER_01]: go anywhere
[00:31:17] [SPEAKER_01]: else.
[00:31:18] [SPEAKER_01]: At around
[00:31:19] [SPEAKER_01]: 3.47am, all
[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: of the chairs
[00:31:21] [SPEAKER_01]: from the
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_01]: anonymous
[00:31:22] [SPEAKER_01]: alcohol spot
[00:31:23] [SPEAKER_01]: dropped to
[00:31:24] [SPEAKER_01]: the floor.
[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'd
[00:31:26] [SPEAKER_01]: never believed
[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: in such
[00:31:27] [SPEAKER_01]: things, so I
[00:31:28] [SPEAKER_01]: ran to the
[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_01]: first floor,
[00:31:29] [SPEAKER_01]: looking for
[00:31:30] [SPEAKER_01]: someone who
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_01]: did it.
[00:31:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I realized it
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: was impossible
[00:31:33] [SPEAKER_01]: for someone to
[00:31:34] [SPEAKER_01]: knock all of
[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_01]: them down at
[00:31:35] [SPEAKER_01]: once, and
[00:31:36] [SPEAKER_01]: nobody was
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_01]: there.
[00:31:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yet, I
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: still don't
[00:31:39] [SPEAKER_01]: believe any
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_01]: of it.
[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought one
[00:31:41] [SPEAKER_01]: of my friends
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_01]: might be
[00:31:42] [SPEAKER_01]: playing tricks
[00:31:43] [SPEAKER_01]: on me.
[00:31:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Although I
[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_01]: was initially
[00:31:45] [SPEAKER_01]: scared, alcohol
[00:31:47] [SPEAKER_01]: gave me courage
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: to withstand
[00:31:48] [SPEAKER_01]: it.
[00:31:49] [SPEAKER_01]: One month
[00:31:50] [SPEAKER_01]: later, my
[00:31:51] [SPEAKER_01]: friend had a
[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: birthday party,
[00:31:52] [SPEAKER_01]: and two of my
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_01]: friends and I
[00:31:54] [SPEAKER_01]: arrived three
[00:31:55] [SPEAKER_01]: hours earlier
[00:31:56] [SPEAKER_01]: than expected,
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_01]: so we started
[00:31:57] [SPEAKER_01]: drinking.
[00:31:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Bored and
[00:31:59] [SPEAKER_01]: excited about
[00:32:00] [SPEAKER_01]: the party, we
[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_01]: decided to
[00:32:01] [SPEAKER_01]: leave his house
[00:32:02] [SPEAKER_01]: and explore the
[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_01]: forest behind
[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_01]: it.
[00:32:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, this is
[00:32:05] [SPEAKER_01]: where I became
[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_01]: numb to
[00:32:06] [SPEAKER_01]: everything that
[00:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: followed and
[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_01]: didn't approve
[00:32:08] [SPEAKER_01]: of any of
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: it.
[00:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Our friends
[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_01]: walked us to
[00:32:11] [SPEAKER_01]: a tree where
[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_01]: they said a
[00:32:12] [SPEAKER_01]: random woman
[00:32:13] [SPEAKER_01]: had hanged
[00:32:14] [SPEAKER_01]: herself.
[00:32:15] [SPEAKER_01]: They started
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_01]: mocking it
[00:32:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and making
[00:32:17] [SPEAKER_01]: jokes.
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I eventually
[00:32:19] [SPEAKER_01]: got them to
[00:32:20] [SPEAKER_01]: stop and
[00:32:21] [SPEAKER_01]: got very mad.
[00:32:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we
[00:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: drank, had
[00:32:24] [SPEAKER_01]: fun, and the
[00:32:25] [SPEAKER_01]: night ended
[00:32:26] [SPEAKER_01]: safely.
[00:32:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The next day,
[00:32:28] [SPEAKER_01]: it was just me
[00:32:29] [SPEAKER_01]: and the same
[00:32:30] [SPEAKER_01]: friend, and
[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_01]: at around
[00:32:31] [SPEAKER_01]: 11am, he
[00:32:32] [SPEAKER_01]: told me the
[00:32:33] [SPEAKER_01]: second house
[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_01]: they built in
[00:32:34] [SPEAKER_01]: their backyard
[00:32:35] [SPEAKER_01]: was possessed.
[00:32:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I was
[00:32:37] [SPEAKER_01]: thinking, I
[00:32:38] [SPEAKER_01]: don't believe
[00:32:38] [SPEAKER_01]: any of this
[00:32:39] [SPEAKER_01]: bullshit.
[00:32:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not
[00:32:41] [SPEAKER_01]: afraid.
[00:32:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, this
[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_01]: part is going
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: to sound like
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: the most
[00:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: cliche horror
[00:32:45] [SPEAKER_01]: movie, but
[00:32:46] [SPEAKER_01]: it really did
[00:32:47] [SPEAKER_01]: happen.
[00:32:48] [SPEAKER_01]: The keys were
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_01]: hidden somewhere,
[00:32:50] [SPEAKER_01]: but he found
[00:32:51] [SPEAKER_01]: them, and that
[00:32:52] [SPEAKER_01]: gave me goosebumps
[00:32:53] [SPEAKER_01]: because it seemed
[00:32:54] [SPEAKER_01]: too logical for
[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_01]: me.
[00:32:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We went inside,
[00:32:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and he dropped
[00:32:58] [SPEAKER_01]: the keys in a
[00:32:59] [SPEAKER_01]: basket.
[00:33:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Nothing was
[00:33:01] [SPEAKER_01]: happening, so I
[00:33:02] [SPEAKER_01]: began screaming,
[00:33:03] [SPEAKER_01]: hello, ghosts,
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01]: why don't you
[00:33:06] [SPEAKER_01]: do something?
[00:33:08] [SPEAKER_01]: We went
[00:33:09] [SPEAKER_01]: upstairs, and
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: the vinyl player
[00:33:10] [SPEAKER_01]: at the bottom
[00:33:11] [SPEAKER_01]: of the house
[00:33:12] [SPEAKER_01]: started playing
[00:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: a song.
[00:33:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I said,
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_01]: that's your
[00:33:16] [SPEAKER_01]: brother.
[00:33:17] [SPEAKER_01]: You think I'm
[00:33:18] [SPEAKER_01]: stupid, right?
[00:33:19] [SPEAKER_01]: We turned it
[00:33:20] [SPEAKER_01]: off since my
[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_01]: friend got
[00:33:22] [SPEAKER_01]: scared, which
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I had never
[00:33:23] [SPEAKER_01]: seen happen
[00:33:24] [SPEAKER_01]: before.
[00:33:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We tried to
[00:33:26] [SPEAKER_01]: open the door
[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_01]: and leave, but
[00:33:27] [SPEAKER_01]: it was locked.
[00:33:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That's when we
[00:33:29] [SPEAKER_01]: got really scared.
[00:33:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I opened a
[00:33:32] [SPEAKER_01]: window, and
[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_01]: that's how we
[00:33:33] [SPEAKER_01]: left the house.
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, later, the
[00:33:36] [SPEAKER_01]: keys reappeared in
[00:33:37] [SPEAKER_01]: the main house.
[00:33:38] [SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't sleep
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: for two days
[00:33:40] [SPEAKER_01]: because of this,
[00:33:41] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was
[00:33:42] [SPEAKER_01]: sober.
[00:33:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, the
[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_01]: God-related
[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_01]: stuff I wanted
[00:33:46] [SPEAKER_01]: to post separately
[00:33:47] [SPEAKER_01]: because I just
[00:33:48] [SPEAKER_01]: realized this is
[00:33:50] [SPEAKER_01]: already a long
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_01]: story.
[00:33:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and I
[00:33:52] [SPEAKER_01]: forgot to mention,
[00:33:53] [SPEAKER_01]: that house we
[00:33:54] [SPEAKER_01]: went into looked
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_01]: like something
[00:33:55] [SPEAKER_01]: out of the
[00:33:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Addams family,
[00:33:57] [SPEAKER_01]: and I had
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_01]: never seen
[00:33:58] [SPEAKER_01]: anything like
[00:33:59] [SPEAKER_01]: that before.
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_01]: For anyone
[00:34:01] [SPEAKER_01]: wondering, the
[00:34:02] [SPEAKER_01]: paintings on
[00:34:03] [SPEAKER_01]: the walls and
[00:34:04] [SPEAKER_01]: the pub can't
[00:34:05] [SPEAKER_01]: be removed since
[00:34:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it's a historical
[00:34:07] [SPEAKER_01]: building, and
[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: it's considered
[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: part of the
[00:34:10] [SPEAKER_01]: town's culture.
[00:34:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd love to
[00:34:12] [SPEAKER_01]: hear a similar
[00:34:13] [SPEAKER_01]: story from
[00:34:14] [SPEAKER_01]: someone who is
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_01]: also a
[00:34:15] [SPEAKER_01]: non-believer.
[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, we had
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_01]: such a fun time
[00:34:34] [SPEAKER_01]: in Salt Lake
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_01]: City.
[00:34:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks to
[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_01]: everybody who
[00:34:36] [SPEAKER_01]: made it out
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_01]: to the live
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's Not
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Meet show and
[00:34:38] [SPEAKER_01]: hung out with
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_01]: me and
[00:34:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Brandon.
[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe once
[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_01]: the court
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_01]: takes me
[00:34:41] [SPEAKER_01]: off of house
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: arrest, we
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: can take this
[00:34:43] [SPEAKER_00]: show worldwide.
[00:34:44] [SPEAKER_00]: There you go
[00:34:45] [SPEAKER_00]: with your deadpan
[00:34:46] [SPEAKER_00]: joke about.
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, like
[00:34:49] [SPEAKER_00]: when I said I
[00:34:50] [SPEAKER_00]: didn't prepare for
[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_00]: my story like
[00:34:51] [SPEAKER_00]: five minutes
[00:34:52] [SPEAKER_00]: before you
[00:34:53] [SPEAKER_00]: went on stage.
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, humor
[00:34:54] [SPEAKER_00]: my anxiety,
[00:34:55] [SPEAKER_00]: please.
[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_00]: guess I
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_00]: technically did
[00:34:58] [SPEAKER_00]: humor it in a
[00:34:59] [SPEAKER_00]: way when I
[00:35:00] [SPEAKER_00]: froze up about
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_00]: two sentences
[00:35:01] [SPEAKER_00]: into my segment.
[00:35:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I did my best
[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_00]: though.
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing prepares
[00:35:04] [SPEAKER_00]: you for reading
[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_00]: in front of an
[00:35:05] [SPEAKER_00]: audience other
[00:35:06] [SPEAKER_00]: than actually
[00:35:07] [SPEAKER_00]: reading in front
[00:35:08] [SPEAKER_00]: of an audience.
[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I
[00:35:09] [SPEAKER_01]: totally get it.
[00:35:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, literally.
[00:35:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think
[00:35:13] [SPEAKER_01]: it ever fully
[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_01]: goes away too.
[00:35:14] [SPEAKER_01]: People just get
[00:35:15] [SPEAKER_01]: better at hiding
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_01]: it.
[00:35:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm always a
[00:35:17] [SPEAKER_01]: nervous wreck.
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, you
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_01]: could have
[00:35:18] [SPEAKER_00]: fooled me,
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_00]: knocked it
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_00]: out of the
[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_00]: park.
[00:35:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
[00:35:22] [SPEAKER_00]: So in
[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_00]: the apartment
[00:35:24] [SPEAKER_00]: imposter emailed
[00:35:25] [SPEAKER_00]: to us by
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_00]: MTG, I
[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_00]: couldn't help
[00:35:28] [SPEAKER_00]: but get a
[00:35:29] [SPEAKER_00]: little annoyed
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_00]: by the
[00:35:30] [SPEAKER_00]: girlfriend calling
[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_00]: out of the
[00:35:31] [SPEAKER_00]: blue and being
[00:35:32] [SPEAKER_00]: like, hey,
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_00]: everything is
[00:35:33] [SPEAKER_00]: totally fine,
[00:35:34] [SPEAKER_00]: but something
[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_00]: kind of serious
[00:35:35] [SPEAKER_00]: happened.
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going
[00:35:36] [SPEAKER_00]: to tell you
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_00]: about it until
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_00]: you get home
[00:35:37] [SPEAKER_00]: in a few
[00:35:38] [SPEAKER_00]: hours though.
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Have a good
[00:35:39] [SPEAKER_00]: day at work.
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't do that.
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't do that.
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Dude, I know.
[00:35:43] [SPEAKER_01]: My old boss
[00:35:44] [SPEAKER_01]: would send me
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: emails like
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: that and say
[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: nothing but
[00:35:47] [SPEAKER_01]: call me and
[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd just be
[00:35:49] [SPEAKER_01]: freaking out trying
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: to get every
[00:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: single duck in
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_01]: a row as soon
[00:35:52] [SPEAKER_01]: as possible before
[00:35:53] [SPEAKER_01]: calling him
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_01]: back.
[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_01]: It would
[00:35:55] [SPEAKER_01]: basically just
[00:35:56] [SPEAKER_01]: end up being
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_01]: something like
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_01]: an extra shipment
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_01]: of receipt papers
[00:35:59] [SPEAKER_01]: coming in and
[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I need you to
[00:36:00] [SPEAKER_01]: sign for it.
[00:36:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Whereas in my
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_01]: head, it's you're
[00:36:03] [SPEAKER_01]: going to be fired
[00:36:04] [SPEAKER_01]: unless you fix
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: this thing or
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: something.
[00:36:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I swear some
[00:36:08] [SPEAKER_00]: of these people
[00:36:09] [SPEAKER_00]: who say vague
[00:36:10] [SPEAKER_00]: things like that
[00:36:11] [SPEAKER_00]: without any
[00:36:12] [SPEAKER_00]: reassurance to the
[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_00]: other person
[00:36:13] [SPEAKER_00]: that nobody
[00:36:14] [SPEAKER_00]: hates them
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_00]: and nobody
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_00]: died.
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_00]: They know
[00:36:16] [SPEAKER_00]: exactly what
[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_00]: they're doing.
[00:36:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's such a
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_00]: power play.
[00:36:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I hate it.
[00:36:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But I'll give
[00:36:20] [SPEAKER_00]: the girlfriend
[00:36:21] [SPEAKER_00]: some credit.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: She did at
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_00]: least say
[00:36:23] [SPEAKER_00]: everything was
[00:36:23] [SPEAKER_00]: okay.
[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I know I like
[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_01]: to talk about
[00:36:26] [SPEAKER_01]: a lot of my
[00:36:27] [SPEAKER_01]: pet peeves on
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_01]: the show,
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_01]: but my
[00:36:28] [SPEAKER_01]: ultimate biggest
[00:36:29] [SPEAKER_01]: pet peeve is
[00:36:30] [SPEAKER_01]: either when
[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_01]: something is
[00:36:32] [SPEAKER_01]: wrong and the
[00:36:32] [SPEAKER_01]: person isn't
[00:36:33] [SPEAKER_01]: telling me about
[00:36:34] [SPEAKER_01]: it or they
[00:36:35] [SPEAKER_01]: send me a text
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_01]: that says
[00:36:36] [SPEAKER_01]: something like
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: just giving
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: you a heads
[00:36:38] [SPEAKER_01]: up or
[00:36:39] [SPEAKER_01]: you know,
[00:36:40] [SPEAKER_01]: hey, everything
[00:36:41] [SPEAKER_01]: is totally fine,
[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: but something
[00:36:42] [SPEAKER_01]: serious happened.
[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I just always
[00:36:46] [SPEAKER_01]: expect like the
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_01]: absolute worst
[00:36:48] [SPEAKER_01]: in those situations
[00:36:49] [SPEAKER_01]: and I think
[00:36:50] [SPEAKER_01]: most people do.
[00:36:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just human.
[00:36:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah.
[00:36:53] [SPEAKER_00]: It's always so much
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_00]: easier said than
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_00]: done.
[00:36:55] [SPEAKER_00]: As of preparing
[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_00]: for the worst
[00:36:56] [SPEAKER_00]: makes it any
[00:36:57] [SPEAKER_00]: easier to handle.
[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't do us any
[00:36:59] [SPEAKER_00]: good, but we can't
[00:37:00] [SPEAKER_00]: help but doing it
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: anyway.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But what if she
[00:37:03] [SPEAKER_00]: thinks it's not
[00:37:04] [SPEAKER_00]: something urgent,
[00:37:05] [SPEAKER_00]: but it actually
[00:37:05] [SPEAKER_00]: is?
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Completely
[00:37:07] [SPEAKER_00]: underestimates the
[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_00]: urgency of the
[00:37:08] [SPEAKER_00]: situation.
[00:37:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
[00:37:10] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're calling
[00:37:11] [SPEAKER_01]: for a reason,
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_01]: just say what it
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_01]: is.
[00:37:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But I also
[00:37:15] [SPEAKER_01]: understand not
[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_01]: wanting to speak
[00:37:18] [SPEAKER_01]: about what
[00:37:18] [SPEAKER_01]: happened, you
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_01]: know, willing it
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_01]: back into existence
[00:37:21] [SPEAKER_01]: or something.
[00:37:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
[00:37:23] [SPEAKER_00]: That plus, like I
[00:37:24] [SPEAKER_00]: said, she did say
[00:37:25] [SPEAKER_00]: everything was okay,
[00:37:26] [SPEAKER_00]: makes it a bit
[00:37:28] [SPEAKER_00]: less aggravating,
[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_00]: but it definitely
[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_00]: made me think of
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_00]: those boss emails
[00:37:31] [SPEAKER_00]: that you related it
[00:37:32] [SPEAKER_00]: to.
[00:37:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Or if somebody
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_00]: asks what your
[00:37:34] [SPEAKER_00]: weekend plans are,
[00:37:35] [SPEAKER_00]: oh man, with
[00:37:36] [SPEAKER_00]: some people you
[00:37:37] [SPEAKER_00]: have to map out
[00:37:38] [SPEAKER_00]: a whole itinerary
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_00]: because they'll
[00:37:39] [SPEAKER_00]: assume if you're
[00:37:40] [SPEAKER_00]: planning to curl
[00:37:41] [SPEAKER_00]: up in a blanket
[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_00]: by yourself for a
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: couple of days,
[00:37:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you're actually
[00:37:44] [SPEAKER_00]: wanting to go out
[00:37:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and do something
[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_00]: else with other
[00:37:47] [SPEAKER_00]: people.
[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, you might
[00:37:48] [SPEAKER_00]: even be yearning
[00:37:49] [SPEAKER_00]: for it so they
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_00]: come to your
[00:37:50] [SPEAKER_00]: rescue and pull
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: you out of
[00:37:52] [SPEAKER_00]: your non-plans.
[00:37:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I feel
[00:37:54] [SPEAKER_01]: that, yeah.
[00:37:55] [SPEAKER_01]: I've gotten more
[00:37:56] [SPEAKER_01]: introverted as I've
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_01]: gotten older.
[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I used to love
[00:37:58] [SPEAKER_01]: being in the
[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: middle of whatever
[00:37:59] [SPEAKER_01]: was happening,
[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_01]: but now I
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: basically just
[00:38:01] [SPEAKER_01]: rejoice when
[00:38:02] [SPEAKER_01]: someone cancels
[00:38:03] [SPEAKER_01]: plans with me.
[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It feels so good.
[00:38:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I get to stay
[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_01]: at home with
[00:38:07] [SPEAKER_01]: my wife and
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: dogs.
[00:38:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It's funny how
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_01]: we've basically
[00:38:10] [SPEAKER_00]: swapped.
[00:38:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I know, I know,
[00:38:12] [SPEAKER_00]: that is interesting.
[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it might
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_00]: be because I
[00:38:14] [SPEAKER_00]: spent so much
[00:38:15] [SPEAKER_00]: of my 20s
[00:38:16] [SPEAKER_00]: caring what
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_00]: other people
[00:38:17] [SPEAKER_00]: think, getting
[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_00]: caught up and
[00:38:18] [SPEAKER_00]: being self-conscious,
[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_00]: afraid to put
[00:38:20] [SPEAKER_00]: myself out there,
[00:38:21] [SPEAKER_00]: blah, blah, blah.
[00:38:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But moving
[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_00]: forward with
[00:38:24] [SPEAKER_00]: my best foot,
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm still like
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_00]: 90% introverted,
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: but I've been
[00:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: making that other
[00:38:28] [SPEAKER_00]: 10% count a lot
[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_00]: more as I've
[00:38:30] [SPEAKER_00]: gotten older.
[00:38:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you spending
[00:38:33] [SPEAKER_01]: that 90% curled
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: up in a blanket
[00:38:34] [SPEAKER_01]: by yourself?
[00:38:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It caught me.
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I
[00:38:38] [SPEAKER_01]: figured.
[00:38:39] [SPEAKER_01]: It's funny, I
[00:38:40] [SPEAKER_01]: actually spent most
[00:38:41] [SPEAKER_01]: of my 20s not
[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_01]: caring about what
[00:38:43] [SPEAKER_01]: people thought of
[00:38:44] [SPEAKER_01]: me and I ended
[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_01]: up making a lot
[00:38:45] [SPEAKER_01]: of enemies that
[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_01]: way, but it
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_01]: turned out to be
[00:38:48] [SPEAKER_01]: a good thing
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_01]: because I weeded
[00:38:50] [SPEAKER_01]: them out and
[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_01]: the friends that
[00:38:51] [SPEAKER_01]: stuck around
[00:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: after I mellowed
[00:38:53] [SPEAKER_01]: out are like the
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_01]: realest people I've
[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_01]: ever met.
[00:38:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I can say and do
[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_01]: anything in front
[00:38:58] [SPEAKER_01]: of them and just
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: feel comfortable
[00:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: and, you know,
[00:39:01] [SPEAKER_01]: they're just good
[00:39:02] [SPEAKER_01]: people, so that's
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_01]: a plus.
[00:39:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Life is just
[00:39:04] [SPEAKER_01]: too weird to do
[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_01]: it once.
[00:39:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I totally get why
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_01]: we choose to come
[00:39:08] [SPEAKER_01]: back.
[00:39:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, no, I
[00:39:11] [SPEAKER_00]: absolutely get that.
[00:39:12] [SPEAKER_00]: As the saying goes,
[00:39:13] [SPEAKER_00]: if you can't handle
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_00]: me at my worst, you
[00:39:14] [SPEAKER_00]: don't deserve me at
[00:39:15] [SPEAKER_00]: my best.
[00:39:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:39:17] [SPEAKER_00]: But, I mean,
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: reincarnation, that
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: makes a lot of sense
[00:39:19] [SPEAKER_00]: in that way.
[00:39:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, you just
[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_00]: want to come back and
[00:39:21] [SPEAKER_00]: try it again and be an
[00:39:22] [SPEAKER_01]: extrovert one time.
[00:39:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know
[00:39:25] [SPEAKER_01]: about that.
[00:39:26] [SPEAKER_01]: We were actually
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_01]: talking about that
[00:39:27] [SPEAKER_01]: while I was there.
[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That's right, yeah.
[00:39:30] [SPEAKER_01]: But, anyways, getting
[00:39:31] [SPEAKER_01]: back to the stories, I
[00:39:32] [SPEAKER_01]: found an update on the
[00:39:34] [SPEAKER_01]: night shift story.
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, cool.
[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Fill us in.
[00:39:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so, buckle up.
[00:39:40] [SPEAKER_01]: The author writes that a
[00:39:41] [SPEAKER_01]: co-worker told him around
[00:39:43] [SPEAKER_01]: 15 years ago that he was
[00:39:45] [SPEAKER_01]: alone on a late shift at
[00:39:47] [SPEAKER_01]: that job and at around
[00:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: 6 p.m., he wanted to
[00:39:50] [SPEAKER_01]: clean the interior of one
[00:39:51] [SPEAKER_01]: of the steam boilers with
[00:39:52] [SPEAKER_01]: the cleaning system.
[00:39:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So, they have a camera to
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: see if the cleaning
[00:39:56] [SPEAKER_01]: process is working okay
[00:39:58] [SPEAKER_01]: and they can control the
[00:39:59] [SPEAKER_01]: whole process from within
[00:40:00] [SPEAKER_01]: this control room, which
[00:40:02] [SPEAKER_01]: is separated.
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But, the camera helps
[00:40:04] [SPEAKER_01]: with keeping everything
[00:40:05] [SPEAKER_01]: in check.
[00:40:06] [SPEAKER_01]: When he started the
[00:40:07] [SPEAKER_01]: process, he also turned
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_01]: on the camera and
[00:40:10] [SPEAKER_01]: quickly looked if, you
[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_01]: know, to see if the
[00:40:12] [SPEAKER_01]: system worked.
[00:40:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And then he adjusted
[00:40:14] [SPEAKER_01]: some other things in the
[00:40:15] [SPEAKER_01]: incineration plant and
[00:40:16] [SPEAKER_01]: then around 15 minutes
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_01]: into the cleaning
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_01]: process, he goes back
[00:40:20] [SPEAKER_01]: to clean the next
[00:40:21] [SPEAKER_01]: shaft of the steam
[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_01]: boiler.
[00:40:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And when he started,
[00:40:24] [SPEAKER_01]: he looked at the
[00:40:25] [SPEAKER_01]: live stream of the
[00:40:26] [SPEAKER_01]: camera again and
[00:40:27] [SPEAKER_01]: noticed a shadow
[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_01]: behind one of the
[00:40:29] [SPEAKER_01]: cleaning systems that
[00:40:31] [SPEAKER_01]: shouldn't have been
[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_01]: there, just like the
[00:40:32] [SPEAKER_01]: story.
[00:40:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Apparently, he's been
[00:40:35] [SPEAKER_01]: at the plant for like
[00:40:36] [SPEAKER_01]: 40 years and he's
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_01]: very sure that
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_01]: something weird is
[00:40:39] [SPEAKER_01]: happening there.
[00:40:40] [SPEAKER_01]: He said that when
[00:40:41] [SPEAKER_01]: the cleaning system
[00:40:42] [SPEAKER_01]: activated, the weird
[00:40:43] [SPEAKER_01]: shadow moved out of
[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_01]: view of the camera
[00:40:45] [SPEAKER_01]: and it didn't return.
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_00]: There would be no way
[00:40:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the fumes would
[00:40:49] [SPEAKER_00]: have affected him
[00:40:50] [SPEAKER_00]: and caused
[00:40:51] [SPEAKER_00]: hallucinations, at
[00:40:52] [SPEAKER_00]: least in my opinion.
[00:40:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Just like in the
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_01]: author's story.
[00:40:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He tried to produce
[00:40:57] [SPEAKER_01]: this weird shadow
[00:40:58] [SPEAKER_01]: figure dozens of
[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: times with other
[00:41:00] [SPEAKER_01]: co-workers, but it's
[00:41:02] [SPEAKER_01]: just not possible.
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_01]: He says that the
[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_01]: complex is over 150
[00:41:06] [SPEAKER_01]: years old and it has a
[00:41:08] [SPEAKER_01]: lot of history.
[00:41:09] [SPEAKER_01]: He writes that up
[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_01]: until 1945, the
[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: company produced
[00:41:13] [SPEAKER_01]: mostly weapons and
[00:41:14] [SPEAKER_01]: ammunition.
[00:41:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Then, after Germany
[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_01]: was defeated, we
[00:41:18] [SPEAKER_01]: started to invest more
[00:41:20] [SPEAKER_01]: into pharmaceuticals
[00:41:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and they still
[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_01]: continued ammunition
[00:41:24] [SPEAKER_01]: at that location
[00:41:25] [SPEAKER_01]: until the early
[00:41:26] [SPEAKER_01]: 2000s along with
[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_01]: pharmaceuticals, but
[00:41:27] [SPEAKER_01]: safety wasn't
[00:41:28] [SPEAKER_01]: exactly something
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_01]: that was taken
[00:41:30] [SPEAKER_01]: seriously.
[00:41:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Pharmaceuticals and
[00:41:33] [SPEAKER_00]: military-grade
[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_00]: weapons, you can't
[00:41:34] [SPEAKER_00]: go wrong there.
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_00]: That's quite the
[00:41:35] [SPEAKER_00]: investment.
[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, plus unsafe
[00:41:37] [SPEAKER_01]: work environments in a
[00:41:39] [SPEAKER_01]: building over 150
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_01]: years old.
[00:41:40] [SPEAKER_01]: No biggie.
[00:41:41] Yeah, yeah.
[00:41:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm following
[00:41:44] [SPEAKER_01]: this story pretty
[00:41:45] [SPEAKER_01]: closely, so if
[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_01]: anything comes up,
[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll keep you guys
[00:41:47] [SPEAKER_01]: updated.
