[00:00:10] Forget facts. Forget logic. Forget everything that seems real. You just trust. Believe.

[00:00:23] I ran into myself in the future, then in the past, by ComfyDW.

[00:01:05] It all started when I was 19. I used to run down this long, open road in northeast Tennessee.

[00:01:13] The area was wide open, with only fields on either side, and barely any houses in sight.

[00:01:20] I ran this same route every day as I was training hard before joining the army.

[00:01:26] One day I was planning to take a rest day, but I had this strange wave of motivation pushing me to go.

[00:01:33] It stayed with me all day, so I finally chalked it up to just that, motivation.

[00:01:40] It was 3pm, which was a lot later than my usual runs. Normally I'd go at around 6 or 7am.

[00:01:49] I was about 3 miles in, when I looked down at my phone to change the song.

[00:01:54] And out of nowhere, I ran straight into someone.

[00:01:58] This man was the same height as me, with a long beard and a pretty large build.

[00:02:04] He was on the ground, so I helped him up.

[00:02:07] I said,

[00:02:08] My bad sir, I didn't see anyone else around here.

[00:02:12] He replied,

[00:02:14] All good.

[00:02:15] But then he looked up at me,

[00:02:16] and it was like he'd seen a ghost.

[00:02:19] I've never seen fear like that in someone's face unless I was pranking them.

[00:02:24] His mouth was wide open,

[00:02:26] eyes locked on me,

[00:02:28] almost frozen.

[00:02:30] He stuck his hand out,

[00:02:32] and I wasn't sure what he was doing.

[00:02:34] So I just said,

[00:02:36] Take care.

[00:02:37] Sorry again.

[00:02:38] And kept going.

[00:02:41] Fast forward about 10 years later.

[00:02:44] I've been in the army for 6 years now.

[00:02:46] I have a religious exemption to grow my beard,

[00:02:49] and I started lifting a lot more.

[00:02:52] I'm feeling good,

[00:02:53] doing well.

[00:02:55] Leave for the holidays comes around,

[00:02:57] and I get this feeling that I should go home and visit my family.

[00:03:01] I hadn't been back since 2019,

[00:03:04] because flying out of Hawaii was just too expensive.

[00:03:07] And back then I was just a poor private.

[00:03:11] Now I'm stationed closer to home,

[00:03:13] and a sergeant with some money saved up.

[00:03:16] So I flew into East Tennessee,

[00:03:19] and stayed at a hotel.

[00:03:21] On the third day,

[00:03:22] the air smelled nostalgic.

[00:03:25] It was the start of fall.

[00:03:26] I kept thinking about the old house

[00:03:29] where I used to live with my parents,

[00:03:31] about 30 minutes away.

[00:03:33] My mom's ex-boyfriend still lives there.

[00:03:36] It's around noon.

[00:03:38] I had lunch,

[00:03:39] and decided to drop by

[00:03:41] and see how he and his kids were doing.

[00:03:43] We sat and talked for a while,

[00:03:45] had a couple of beers just for old time's sake.

[00:03:49] Then, for no specific reason,

[00:03:51] I felt like checking out my old running route.

[00:03:54] I told him,

[00:03:56] I'm gonna go walk my old route.

[00:03:58] It's nostalgic,

[00:03:59] and it did a lot for me,

[00:04:00] especially as a young adult preparing for the army.

[00:04:04] I started walking,

[00:04:06] and it was dead silent.

[00:04:08] There was a slight breeze,

[00:04:10] and the fields around me were just beautiful.

[00:04:14] Suddenly,

[00:04:15] I felt like I got tackled out of nowhere.

[00:04:18] As far as I knew,

[00:04:20] no one was around.

[00:04:22] Then,

[00:04:23] I heard someone say,

[00:04:25] My bad, sir,

[00:04:27] I didn't see anyone else around here.

[00:04:29] I looked down from my phone,

[00:04:31] which had fallen out of my hand,

[00:04:33] and responded,

[00:04:34] All good.

[00:04:36] Then I looked up,

[00:04:38] and it felt like the world turned upside down.

[00:04:41] Panic hit me like a wave.

[00:04:44] Nothing felt real.

[00:04:46] I saw the kid,

[00:04:47] and it was literally me.

[00:04:50] I tried to say something,

[00:04:52] but my mouth went dry.

[00:04:54] I just reached out,

[00:04:56] instinctively wanting to touch my younger self.

[00:04:59] He looked at my hand,

[00:05:01] smiled,

[00:05:02] and said,

[00:05:03] Take care.

[00:05:04] Sorry again.

[00:05:06] Then put his headphones back in

[00:05:07] and took off running.

[00:05:10] I stood there for just a few seconds,

[00:05:12] trying to piece my brain back together.

[00:05:15] Then,

[00:05:16] I yelled,

[00:05:18] Joe,

[00:05:18] come back,

[00:05:19] and started running to catch up to him,

[00:05:22] but I never saw him again.

[00:05:25] This was an open road.

[00:05:26] He couldn't have gotten far,

[00:05:28] but he was gone,

[00:05:30] vanished.

[00:05:32] This has been sitting with me ever since,

[00:05:34] like some weird dream I can't shake.

[00:05:57] Somewhere in Time by As Above So Below 75

[00:06:02] In the early 90s,

[00:06:04] I went to school in upstate New York.

[00:06:07] It was my first experience away from home

[00:06:09] for any length of time.

[00:06:11] This particular college town

[00:06:13] was built around a beautiful lake,

[00:06:14] and because of that,

[00:06:16] when summer came to a close,

[00:06:18] everything closed up with it.

[00:06:21] Picture a vibrant,

[00:06:22] happening center

[00:06:23] turning into a barren ghost town overnight.

[00:06:28] With the cold weather,

[00:06:29] the sky went from beautiful blue

[00:06:31] to dull,

[00:06:33] lifeless gray,

[00:06:34] and it stayed that way until spring.

[00:06:37] One of my housemates was also a weed dealer,

[00:06:40] which was convenient for me

[00:06:42] as I was a chronic stoner at the time.

[00:06:44] We would make these elaborate dinners

[00:06:47] where every course featured weed in the recipe.

[00:06:51] The result were full bellies,

[00:06:53] stoned mines,

[00:06:54] and huge messes to clean up.

[00:06:57] Our dinners quickly became something

[00:06:59] that people from other houses

[00:07:00] wanted to join.

[00:07:02] So,

[00:07:03] we would have guests over,

[00:07:05] and the rule was that they had to clean up

[00:07:07] after the meal.

[00:07:08] Somehow,

[00:07:09] they didn't mind,

[00:07:10] and ours quickly became the house

[00:07:12] that everybody wanted to hang out at.

[00:07:15] One very dark,

[00:07:16] cold,

[00:07:16] and windy night,

[00:07:17] we had four to five female guests

[00:07:20] from another school.

[00:07:21] I had a girlfriend at the time,

[00:07:23] so,

[00:07:24] I behaved,

[00:07:25] but the rest of the housemates,

[00:07:26] hooked up,

[00:07:27] and a good time was had by all.

[00:07:30] It was a weeknight,

[00:07:32] and when it came time for the girls to leave,

[00:07:34] their car wouldn't start.

[00:07:36] Naturally,

[00:07:37] they came knocking on my door,

[00:07:38] as I was the only one with a car.

[00:07:41] It was around midnight,

[00:07:42] and they lived a good hour away,

[00:07:44] so I reluctantly agreed to take them.

[00:07:47] My housemate,

[00:07:48] James,

[00:07:49] agreed to come with us.

[00:07:51] There were no streetlights,

[00:07:52] and it was dark and cold as hell.

[00:07:55] It began to snow.

[00:07:57] On a good day,

[00:07:58] we hardly knew our way around our own school,

[00:08:00] and this was a totally different area.

[00:08:03] It was a tense,

[00:08:05] white-knuckle ride the whole way,

[00:08:06] but eventually,

[00:08:07] we got there.

[00:08:07] The house where they lived

[00:08:10] was a converted estate

[00:08:12] with a long driveway

[00:08:13] and huge iron gates.

[00:08:15] As I turned into the driveway,

[00:08:18] the snow really started coming down.

[00:08:20] We could see two dull red lights

[00:08:23] off in the distance.

[00:08:24] As we got closer,

[00:08:26] we saw that it wasn't a car,

[00:08:28] but an elaborate stagecoach

[00:08:30] lumbering through the snow.

[00:08:33] As we went to overtake it on the road,

[00:08:36] we all looked over and saw that it was a huge black stagecoach

[00:08:40] being pulled by a team of black horses.

[00:08:44] The red lights that we saw were lanterns on its sides.

[00:08:48] The driver was also dressed in black,

[00:08:52] sitting pinned straight and looking straight ahead.

[00:08:55] He didn't even glance at us.

[00:08:57] It was like we weren't even there.

[00:08:59] Everyone in the car saw this.

[00:09:01] We asked the girls

[00:09:03] if this was a common thing

[00:09:04] where they lived.

[00:09:05] They said no.

[00:09:07] They had never seen anything like it before.

[00:09:10] At the time,

[00:09:11] we just thought that it was very strange.

[00:09:14] Why would someone be out in a stagecoach

[00:09:17] after midnight in a snowstorm?

[00:09:19] I remember thinking

[00:09:20] maybe this is just how things are done up in the country.

[00:09:24] It didn't occur to us right away

[00:09:26] that it could be anything else.

[00:09:29] After we dropped them off at the house,

[00:09:31] we turned around to leave,

[00:09:33] both fully expecting to see that stagecoach again

[00:09:36] since their house

[00:09:37] was the only thing

[00:09:38] at the end of the driveway slash road.

[00:09:41] Instead,

[00:09:42] we saw nothing.

[00:09:44] No horses,

[00:09:45] no hoofprints,

[00:09:46] no other tracks

[00:09:47] but our own

[00:09:48] coming from the other way.

[00:09:50] At that point,

[00:09:52] it finally dawned on us,

[00:09:54] no doubt a delayed reaction from dinner.

[00:09:56] James and I realized

[00:09:58] that we may have just seen

[00:10:00] not only a ghost

[00:10:01] but ghost horses

[00:10:02] and a ghost stagecoach.

[00:10:06] It's been more than 30 years

[00:10:07] and anytime I see James,

[00:10:09] we still talk about that night.

[00:10:35] At Odd Trails,

[00:12:10] My Family Sees Me

[00:12:12] When I'm Not There

[00:12:13] by Parker Uwu Forever

[00:12:15] This happened around a year ago.

[00:12:20] My mom, stepdad, and I

[00:12:22] are driving about

[00:12:23] three hours away

[00:12:24] to pick up our new motorhome.

[00:12:26] We stopped at the gas station

[00:12:28] and I ran inside

[00:12:29] with my mom

[00:12:30] to grab some food

[00:12:31] while my stepdad

[00:12:32] filled the motorhome

[00:12:33] with gas.

[00:12:34] My mom went to speak with him

[00:12:36] while I put some things

[00:12:37] in the car.

[00:12:38] Then I went back around

[00:12:40] to find her

[00:12:40] as she started looking for me.

[00:12:43] As I reached the back

[00:12:44] of the motorhome,

[00:12:46] I heard her say,

[00:12:47] Why are you hiding?

[00:12:49] I assumed she was talking

[00:12:51] to our dog Ripley

[00:12:52] who was in the car.

[00:12:54] I then happened to sneeze

[00:12:56] and my mom turned

[00:12:57] to look at me.

[00:12:58] Her eyes got wide

[00:12:59] and she looked at me

[00:13:01] completely freaked out.

[00:13:03] I was confused

[00:13:04] and asked her what happened,

[00:13:06] thinking maybe

[00:13:07] Ripley was being weird.

[00:13:10] My mom didn't say anything.

[00:13:12] Once I got into the front seat,

[00:13:14] she let out a stressed,

[00:13:16] panicked laugh,

[00:13:17] like she was

[00:13:18] trying not to cry.

[00:13:20] The following conversation

[00:13:22] ensued.

[00:13:24] Mom,

[00:13:25] what happened?

[00:13:26] She didn't say anything,

[00:13:29] just sat there,

[00:13:30] frozen in fear.

[00:13:32] What is it?

[00:13:34] I continued.

[00:13:35] Is Ripley being weird?

[00:13:38] No,

[00:13:39] she said.

[00:13:40] I saw you

[00:13:41] in the back seat.

[00:13:44] Apparently,

[00:13:45] when she got to the car,

[00:13:47] she saw me lying

[00:13:48] on the floor

[00:13:49] of the back seat,

[00:13:50] grinning up at her.

[00:13:52] She thought I was being goofy

[00:13:54] and trying to scare her.

[00:13:56] The

[00:13:57] why are you hiding comment

[00:13:58] was directed towards me.

[00:14:00] When she heard me sneeze,

[00:14:02] she turned her head.

[00:14:03] Once she saw the real me,

[00:14:06] her eyes got wide

[00:14:07] and she whipped back around,

[00:14:09] only to see that I was suddenly

[00:14:11] no longer in the back seat

[00:14:13] and had vanished,

[00:14:15] or perhaps

[00:14:16] teleported.

[00:14:19] Rightfully so,

[00:14:20] she started crying.

[00:14:22] Imagine seeing your child

[00:14:24] in the back seat of your car

[00:14:25] being a little weirdo,

[00:14:27] only to turn your head

[00:14:28] and,

[00:14:29] in an instant,

[00:14:30] see that same child

[00:14:31] in a different location.

[00:14:33] To make things

[00:14:35] even more concerning,

[00:14:36] she said that

[00:14:37] before she turned her head,

[00:14:39] she saw my smile

[00:14:40] go from silly and playful

[00:14:42] to very menacing

[00:14:44] and scary.

[00:14:46] I have one other

[00:14:48] similar occurrence to share,

[00:14:50] this time involving

[00:14:51] my brother Robert,

[00:14:52] who was sixteen at the time.

[00:14:54] The details are foggy,

[00:14:56] so bear with me.

[00:14:59] I walked out of my room

[00:15:00] and stopped at the door

[00:15:01] to the living room,

[00:15:02] which is where Robert was.

[00:15:05] He and I chatted for a minute,

[00:15:06] with him looking at me

[00:15:08] as we did.

[00:15:09] He looked down at his phone

[00:15:11] when it dawned on him

[00:15:12] that I had left

[00:15:13] over an hour ago

[00:15:14] to go to the store.

[00:15:16] I wasn't home.

[00:15:18] He looked back up

[00:15:19] and I was gone.

[00:15:22] Around twenty minutes later,

[00:15:24] I returned home

[00:15:25] and he was still there.

[00:15:27] A little freaked out,

[00:15:28] you could say.

[00:15:30] He told me about

[00:15:31] what happened

[00:15:32] and we were both

[00:15:33] so confused

[00:15:34] as to what it could have been.

[00:15:36] On top of that,

[00:15:38] I've heard my family

[00:15:39] calling me numerous times,

[00:15:41] only to find that

[00:15:43] they haven't.

[00:15:44] The most notable incident

[00:15:46] involved both my mom

[00:15:47] and Robert.

[00:15:49] One night,

[00:15:50] I was at my desk

[00:15:51] and heard Robert

[00:15:52] call my name,

[00:15:53] so I got up

[00:15:55] and went into his room

[00:15:56] to see what he wanted.

[00:15:57] He said he didn't call me,

[00:15:59] but we stood talking

[00:16:00] for a minute.

[00:16:02] As I turned on my heel

[00:16:03] to leave,

[00:16:04] I heard my mom

[00:16:05] call out my nickname,

[00:16:07] Monkey.

[00:16:08] So I did a 180

[00:16:09] and headed into her room.

[00:16:12] But when I got there,

[00:16:13] she said she didn't

[00:16:15] call me either.

[00:16:16] It was memorable

[00:16:18] since I was called out

[00:16:19] for twice

[00:16:20] in a matter of minutes.

[00:16:23] I do know

[00:16:24] we have at least

[00:16:24] two spirits in my house,

[00:16:27] one attached to my mom

[00:16:28] and one to me.

[00:16:30] Nothing has ever

[00:16:31] seemed hostile.

[00:16:33] The worst thing

[00:16:34] they've done

[00:16:34] is move stuff around,

[00:16:35] which has made me

[00:16:37] late a few times.

[00:16:39] Just a mild inconvenience.

[00:17:06] I went through a town

[00:17:08] that doesn't exist

[00:17:09] by death turkey.

[00:17:12] For some context,

[00:17:14] I'm a 25-year-old male

[00:17:15] and this happened

[00:17:16] when I was about 13.

[00:17:18] Yes,

[00:17:18] it's been a long time,

[00:17:19] but my family and I

[00:17:21] still talk about it

[00:17:22] to this day.

[00:17:23] It involves

[00:17:24] all of us.

[00:17:26] While I still talk about it,

[00:17:27] I unfortunately

[00:17:28] have a hard time

[00:17:29] remembering the exact dates

[00:17:31] and some parts of it

[00:17:32] due to some head trauma.

[00:17:34] That means

[00:17:35] some of the finer details

[00:17:37] I can't remember exactly,

[00:17:39] but

[00:17:40] I know this happened

[00:17:41] sometime during 2012.

[00:17:43] I think it happened

[00:17:45] on our way from

[00:17:46] Washington to Oklahoma.

[00:17:48] We had made this trip

[00:17:49] several times

[00:17:50] and

[00:17:51] I can't remember

[00:17:52] which way we were headed

[00:17:53] on this specific trip.

[00:17:54] I just know that

[00:17:56] it was somewhere

[00:17:57] in Washington State.

[00:17:58] We had been on the road

[00:18:00] all day.

[00:18:01] It was nighttime,

[00:18:02] probably around

[00:18:03] 10 or 11 p.m.

[00:18:04] The sun had already set

[00:18:06] and everyone was tired.

[00:18:08] We had two cars

[00:18:09] to fit everything.

[00:18:10] My sister,

[00:18:11] my mom,

[00:18:11] and I

[00:18:12] rode in the SUV

[00:18:13] while my brother

[00:18:14] and his girlfriend

[00:18:14] at the time,

[00:18:15] who is now his wife,

[00:18:16] rode in the small

[00:18:18] four-door car.

[00:18:20] We had been on

[00:18:21] a long stretch of road

[00:18:22] surrounded by pine

[00:18:23] and evergreen trees

[00:18:24] on both sides.

[00:18:26] The GPS said

[00:18:27] that we wouldn't reach

[00:18:27] another town

[00:18:28] for a good 10 miles

[00:18:29] or so,

[00:18:30] but there were lights

[00:18:31] just down the road.

[00:18:33] We thought that maybe

[00:18:34] the GPS

[00:18:35] needed to be updated

[00:18:36] or something

[00:18:37] because small towns

[00:18:38] didn't show up

[00:18:39] on these at the time.

[00:18:40] It was a Garmin,

[00:18:42] the kind that you

[00:18:43] stuck to the car window,

[00:18:44] plugged into your car,

[00:18:45] entered an address,

[00:18:46] and picked up your route.

[00:18:49] We took the same routes

[00:18:50] every time,

[00:18:51] depending on the time of year.

[00:18:53] I believe we went

[00:18:54] during this summer,

[00:18:55] but I could be wrong.

[00:18:57] We knew the routes

[00:18:58] by this point,

[00:18:59] and we didn't expect

[00:19:00] this town.

[00:19:02] As we came closer,

[00:19:04] my brother called my mom,

[00:19:05] saying he was tired

[00:19:07] and his girlfriend

[00:19:08] was already asleep,

[00:19:09] so she couldn't drive.

[00:19:11] My mom agreed

[00:19:12] that she might be

[00:19:13] too tired for this as well,

[00:19:15] so we needed to pull over

[00:19:17] and find a hotel

[00:19:18] in this town.

[00:19:19] My brother said all right,

[00:19:21] slowed down to get behind us,

[00:19:23] and followed us

[00:19:24] to pull over.

[00:19:25] At this point,

[00:19:27] everything seemed fine,

[00:19:28] and nothing was

[00:19:29] out of the ordinary.

[00:19:30] It wasn't until

[00:19:31] we passed the sign

[00:19:32] with the town's name on it

[00:19:34] that my gut

[00:19:35] twisted into knots.

[00:19:36] I remember watching

[00:19:38] as we neared the town,

[00:19:40] feeling an inkling

[00:19:41] of something

[00:19:42] that I didn't quite

[00:19:42] understand yet.

[00:19:44] Everything seemed fine,

[00:19:46] but I kept watching

[00:19:47] my surroundings

[00:19:48] as we drove.

[00:19:49] The lights had a sickly

[00:19:51] yellow or orange hue,

[00:19:53] as if they were old

[00:19:55] and weary.

[00:19:56] I remember looking

[00:19:57] at the sign

[00:19:58] as we passed,

[00:19:59] but I can't remember

[00:20:00] the name of the town.

[00:20:01] And the funny thing is,

[00:20:03] nobody can.

[00:20:05] No one has been able

[00:20:07] to remember.

[00:20:08] We even wrote it down

[00:20:10] that night

[00:20:10] so that we would

[00:20:11] stay away from this road.

[00:20:13] We passed the sign,

[00:20:15] and my gut dropped.

[00:20:17] At the time,

[00:20:18] I didn't understand

[00:20:19] that what I was feeling

[00:20:20] was anxiety.

[00:20:22] I just remember thinking

[00:20:23] we were being watched,

[00:20:25] but looking around,

[00:20:26] there was no one.

[00:20:28] It was the middle of the night,

[00:20:29] so people were probably asleep,

[00:20:31] but there were no cars,

[00:20:33] no signs of life,

[00:20:34] and the air itself

[00:20:35] was stagnant

[00:20:36] as we drove through.

[00:20:38] Yes,

[00:20:39] the kid in me

[00:20:40] had a very active imagination,

[00:20:41] but my older brother

[00:20:43] can confirm

[00:20:44] the town was empty

[00:20:45] in a way

[00:20:46] that scared even him.

[00:20:48] Buildings had lights on,

[00:20:50] but there was no one inside.

[00:20:52] No employees,

[00:20:54] nothing.

[00:20:55] We saw a church

[00:20:56] sitting on a small hill

[00:20:57] just to the right side of town

[00:20:59] and drove up to it,

[00:21:00] parking near the door

[00:21:01] as it was the only light

[00:21:03] in the gravel parking lot.

[00:21:05] Oddly,

[00:21:06] this was the only light

[00:21:07] that was white

[00:21:08] and didn't have

[00:21:09] that sick hue to it.

[00:21:11] We all stepped out of the cars

[00:21:13] to stretch our legs

[00:21:14] and find a hotel.

[00:21:15] My mom told me

[00:21:16] and my sister,

[00:21:17] who was about nine or ten

[00:21:18] at the time,

[00:21:19] to stay close,

[00:21:21] slipping in the fact that

[00:21:22] she had a creepy feeling

[00:21:23] as well.

[00:21:25] At the time,

[00:21:26] I dismissed the small statement

[00:21:28] and just walked around the car

[00:21:30] to move my legs

[00:21:31] when something moved

[00:21:32] behind the dumpster

[00:21:33] that was across the parking lot.

[00:21:36] The light on the door

[00:21:37] didn't reach

[00:21:38] all the way to the dumpster,

[00:21:40] but I could barely see

[00:21:41] its outline enough

[00:21:42] to know

[00:21:43] it was a dumpster.

[00:21:45] Of course,

[00:21:46] I thought,

[00:21:46] it's an animal,

[00:21:48] but that feeling

[00:21:49] came back.

[00:21:50] It was like

[00:21:51] I was being watched.

[00:21:53] At this point,

[00:21:54] I didn't want to be there.

[00:21:56] As if reading my mind,

[00:21:58] something scattered

[00:21:59] along the gravel,

[00:22:00] seemingly darting

[00:22:01] behind the dumpster.

[00:22:04] My mom heard this

[00:22:05] and ordered my sister

[00:22:06] and me to get into the car.

[00:22:08] I stood staring

[00:22:09] for a moment

[00:22:10] before walking backwards

[00:22:11] to the car.

[00:22:12] For whatever reason,

[00:22:14] I just didn't feel like

[00:22:15] turning my back to it.

[00:22:17] It felt dangerous.

[00:22:20] We waited in the car

[00:22:21] as my brother

[00:22:22] had his girlfriend

[00:22:23] get back in their car.

[00:22:24] He walked over to my mom,

[00:22:27] helped her put the address

[00:22:27] and the GPS,

[00:22:29] and then got into his car

[00:22:30] as we drove off.

[00:22:32] I couldn't bring myself

[00:22:34] to look back

[00:22:34] at the dumpster

[00:22:35] as we left.

[00:22:36] We drove through town,

[00:22:37] and again,

[00:22:38] everything seemed

[00:22:39] eerily empty and clean.

[00:22:41] There was no litter,

[00:22:43] no trash,

[00:22:44] nothing suggested life

[00:22:45] besides the streetlights

[00:22:47] that were still on.

[00:22:49] We reached the edge of town

[00:22:50] following the GPS

[00:22:52] and turned into

[00:22:53] this gravel road

[00:22:54] that led down

[00:22:55] into a giant opening

[00:22:57] surrounded by thick,

[00:22:58] dense woods.

[00:23:00] In this lot

[00:23:01] was a motel.

[00:23:02] And I don't mean

[00:23:04] a hotel

[00:23:04] or anything fancy.

[00:23:06] It was a two-story

[00:23:07] L-shaped building

[00:23:08] with about 30 to 40 rooms.

[00:23:11] The check-in

[00:23:12] was a separate

[00:23:13] small building

[00:23:13] just to the side

[00:23:14] of the rooms.

[00:23:16] It had only one light

[00:23:18] in the parking lot,

[00:23:19] besides the small ones

[00:23:20] above the doors.

[00:23:21] This light

[00:23:22] was a hollow white.

[00:23:25] We pulled in,

[00:23:26] and my mom

[00:23:27] called my brother,

[00:23:28] telling him to park

[00:23:29] near the SUV

[00:23:30] and stay in the car

[00:23:31] while she went

[00:23:32] to check in.

[00:23:34] Here's where it gets

[00:23:35] a little tricky.

[00:23:36] The building was small,

[00:23:38] but the windows

[00:23:39] were big.

[00:23:41] We could see inside,

[00:23:43] just enough

[00:23:43] to watch our mother

[00:23:44] go in

[00:23:45] and talk to the guy

[00:23:46] at the counter.

[00:23:47] The building

[00:23:48] was simple,

[00:23:49] white walls

[00:23:50] with soft pastel

[00:23:51] grain trim

[00:23:52] and a dark gray counter.

[00:23:55] But here's the thing.

[00:23:57] My sister,

[00:23:58] brother,

[00:23:58] and I

[00:23:59] all saw

[00:24:00] different things.

[00:24:02] When our mother

[00:24:03] went in,

[00:24:03] I saw her talking

[00:24:04] to an old man

[00:24:06] with a thin,

[00:24:07] frail stature

[00:24:08] and a permanent scowl.

[00:24:10] He looked old,

[00:24:11] weary,

[00:24:12] and miserable

[00:24:12] with slightly sunken eyes

[00:24:14] and pale,

[00:24:16] hanging skin.

[00:24:17] My sister says

[00:24:19] she saw

[00:24:20] a young man

[00:24:21] who seemed nervous

[00:24:22] and annoyed

[00:24:23] with dark hair

[00:24:25] and deep eyes.

[00:24:26] My brother says

[00:24:28] he saw

[00:24:29] a middle-aged man

[00:24:29] who was aloof

[00:24:30] and uncaring

[00:24:31] with a beard

[00:24:32] and dark hair.

[00:24:34] I cannot remember

[00:24:35] all of the details

[00:24:36] they gave me,

[00:24:37] but I remember

[00:24:38] the main differences.

[00:24:40] When our mother

[00:24:41] came out,

[00:24:42] she got in the car

[00:24:43] and waved

[00:24:44] for my brother

[00:24:44] to follow.

[00:24:45] We parked in front

[00:24:46] of our rooms

[00:24:47] which were two

[00:24:48] side-by-side rooms.

[00:24:49] We were told

[00:24:50] to only bring

[00:24:51] the essentials

[00:24:52] in for the night

[00:24:53] because she didn't

[00:24:54] want to stay

[00:24:54] any longer

[00:24:55] than necessary

[00:24:56] in the morning.

[00:24:57] We all agreed,

[00:24:58] grabbed as little

[00:24:59] as we needed

[00:25:00] and headed

[00:25:00] to our rooms.

[00:25:02] My sister,

[00:25:03] my mom,

[00:25:03] and I

[00:25:03] stayed in the right room

[00:25:05] while my brother

[00:25:06] and his girlfriend

[00:25:07] stayed in the left room.

[00:25:09] My sister asked

[00:25:10] to take a shower

[00:25:11] and my mom

[00:25:12] went to help her

[00:25:13] get ready

[00:25:13] since she wasn't

[00:25:14] sure how it worked.

[00:25:16] It turns out

[00:25:17] it didn't.

[00:25:18] The water

[00:25:19] would not turn on

[00:25:20] so my mom

[00:25:21] called my brother

[00:25:22] to let him know.

[00:25:23] He came in

[00:25:24] to get her

[00:25:24] so that she could

[00:25:25] use their shower.

[00:25:26] While they were gone,

[00:25:27] my mom looked

[00:25:28] at the beds,

[00:25:29] noticing I was

[00:25:30] staring at them

[00:25:31] as well.

[00:25:31] She asked,

[00:25:33] You don't want

[00:25:34] to touch them

[00:25:34] either,

[00:25:35] do you?

[00:25:36] I smiled

[00:25:37] and shook my head,

[00:25:38] relieved

[00:25:39] that I wasn't

[00:25:39] alone in this feeling.

[00:25:41] I told her

[00:25:42] that they

[00:25:43] felt gross.

[00:25:44] She agreed.

[00:25:45] My brother

[00:25:47] then suddenly

[00:25:47] burst back

[00:25:48] into our room

[00:25:49] looking a little

[00:25:50] frantic

[00:25:51] but trying

[00:25:51] to keep calm.

[00:25:52] He told us

[00:25:53] to pack our things

[00:25:54] and asked my mom

[00:25:55] to follow him.

[00:25:57] She nodded

[00:25:58] and followed.

[00:25:59] I began

[00:26:00] putting stuff

[00:26:00] in my bag.

[00:26:01] My sister

[00:26:02] returned

[00:26:03] looking very

[00:26:03] freaked out

[00:26:04] and I offered

[00:26:05] to help her

[00:26:06] pack

[00:26:06] while asking

[00:26:07] what happened.

[00:26:08] She struggled

[00:26:09] to explain

[00:26:09] while finally

[00:26:10] saying

[00:26:11] there was blood

[00:26:12] in the shower

[00:26:13] when they went in.

[00:26:15] She freaked

[00:26:16] out,

[00:26:17] had my brother

[00:26:17] check it out

[00:26:18] and then they

[00:26:19] came to get

[00:26:19] my mom.

[00:26:20] She returned

[00:26:21] and calmly

[00:26:21] told us

[00:26:22] to put our

[00:26:22] things back

[00:26:23] into the truck

[00:26:23] and get in.

[00:26:25] At that point

[00:26:26] I could feel

[00:26:27] how bad

[00:26:27] this place was.

[00:26:29] I began

[00:26:29] to panic

[00:26:30] and hurried

[00:26:31] to get our

[00:26:31] stuff into the car.

[00:26:33] I then

[00:26:33] offered to help

[00:26:34] with my brother's

[00:26:35] stuff and of course

[00:26:36] curiosity

[00:26:37] got the best

[00:26:38] of me.

[00:26:38] I snuck

[00:26:39] into the bathroom

[00:26:40] to look at

[00:26:40] the shower

[00:26:41] and yes

[00:26:42] there was

[00:26:43] definitely

[00:26:43] blood

[00:26:44] splattered

[00:26:45] all along

[00:26:46] the tub.

[00:26:47] I turned

[00:26:48] meeting my

[00:26:49] brother's

[00:26:49] girlfriend

[00:26:50] and we

[00:26:50] both

[00:26:51] just left.

[00:26:52] We got

[00:26:53] in the cars

[00:26:54] and neither

[00:26:55] my brother

[00:26:55] nor my mom

[00:26:56] wasted time

[00:26:57] driving away

[00:26:57] not even

[00:26:59] stopping for

[00:27:00] a refund

[00:27:00] or to report

[00:27:01] the blood.

[00:27:03] My brother

[00:27:03] wanted to

[00:27:04] but my mom

[00:27:05] insisted

[00:27:05] it didn't

[00:27:06] matter

[00:27:06] since she

[00:27:07] used cash.

[00:27:08] We drove

[00:27:09] on

[00:27:09] intending

[00:27:10] to reach

[00:27:11] the next

[00:27:11] town.

[00:27:12] Unfortunately

[00:27:13] my brother

[00:27:14] needed gas.

[00:27:15] Luckily

[00:27:15] as we

[00:27:16] reached

[00:27:16] the edge

[00:27:17] of the

[00:27:17] town

[00:27:17] and left

[00:27:18] it in

[00:27:19] our

[00:27:19] rear view

[00:27:19] mirrors

[00:27:20] there

[00:27:20] was a

[00:27:21] gas

[00:27:21] station

[00:27:21] but again

[00:27:22] there were

[00:27:23] no cars

[00:27:24] not even

[00:27:25] an employee's

[00:27:25] car.

[00:27:27] My brother

[00:27:27] pulled to

[00:27:28] the pump

[00:27:28] and my mom

[00:27:29] pulled next

[00:27:30] to him

[00:27:30] so that we

[00:27:31] were all

[00:27:31] still together.

[00:27:33] We all

[00:27:33] jumped out

[00:27:34] and went

[00:27:35] inside after

[00:27:35] he pumped

[00:27:36] the gas.

[00:27:37] We were

[00:27:37] all wide

[00:27:38] awake by

[00:27:38] now so

[00:27:39] we grabbed

[00:27:39] a drink

[00:27:40] and a

[00:27:40] snack

[00:27:40] and paid

[00:27:41] for the

[00:27:41] gas.

[00:27:42] That part

[00:27:43] went fine

[00:27:44] until we

[00:27:44] got back

[00:27:45] outside.

[00:27:46] As we

[00:27:47] headed back

[00:27:47] to the

[00:27:47] cars

[00:27:48] I was

[00:27:49] walking

[00:27:49] next to

[00:27:49] my brother

[00:27:50] laughing

[00:27:51] with him

[00:27:51] to ease

[00:27:52] the tension.

[00:27:53] Then

[00:27:54] as he

[00:27:54] was putting

[00:27:55] the gas

[00:27:55] cap back

[00:27:56] on

[00:27:56] something

[00:27:57] moved

[00:27:57] across

[00:27:58] the

[00:27:58] parking

[00:27:58] lot.

[00:28:00] Both

[00:28:00] our

[00:28:00] heads

[00:28:01] shot up

[00:28:01] and we

[00:28:02] stared

[00:28:02] at the

[00:28:03] shed

[00:28:03] in the

[00:28:03] back

[00:28:04] corner

[00:28:04] with

[00:28:05] tall

[00:28:05] intimidating

[00:28:06] trees

[00:28:06] behind

[00:28:07] it.

[00:28:08] All of

[00:28:08] a sudden

[00:28:09] two

[00:28:09] figures

[00:28:10] about

[00:28:10] six feet

[00:28:11] tall

[00:28:11] darted

[00:28:12] and ran

[00:28:13] behind

[00:28:13] the

[00:28:14] shed.

[00:28:15] My

[00:28:15] brother

[00:28:15] slowly

[00:28:16] closed

[00:28:16] his

[00:28:17] gas

[00:28:17] tank

[00:28:17] without

[00:28:17] taking

[00:28:18] his

[00:28:18] eyes

[00:28:18] off

[00:28:18] the

[00:28:19] shed

[00:28:19] and said

[00:28:19] get

[00:28:20] in

[00:28:20] the

[00:28:21] car.

[00:28:22] As

[00:28:23] soon

[00:28:23] as he

[00:28:23] said

[00:28:23] that

[00:28:23] three

[00:28:24] pairs

[00:28:24] of

[00:28:25] glowing

[00:28:25] yellow

[00:28:26] amber

[00:28:26] eyes

[00:28:27] stared

[00:28:27] back

[00:28:28] at

[00:28:28] us

[00:28:28] from

[00:28:28] beside

[00:28:29] the

[00:28:29] shed

[00:28:29] and

[00:28:30] they

[00:28:30] were

[00:28:30] both

[00:28:30] taller

[00:28:31] than

[00:28:31] said

[00:28:32] shed.

[00:28:33] We

[00:28:33] just

[00:28:34] stood

[00:28:34] there

[00:28:34] staring.

[00:28:35] I

[00:28:36] remember

[00:28:36] watching

[00:28:37] as

[00:32:37] three

[00:32:38] million

[00:32:38] dollars

[00:32:38] to

[00:32:39] date.

[00:32:49] Don't

[00:32:49] miss out

[00:32:49] on this

[00:32:50] limited

[00:32:50] time

[00:32:50] offer.

[00:32:51] Uncommon

[00:32:52] goods.

[00:32:52] We're

[00:32:53] all out

[00:32:53] of

[00:32:54] the

[00:32:54] ordinary.

[00:33:00] Evil

[00:33:00] Lurked

[00:33:01] in

[00:33:01] My

[00:33:01] Childhood

[00:33:02] Home

[00:33:02] by

[00:33:03] Nitro

[00:33:03] Ninja.

[00:33:06] When I

[00:33:06] was a

[00:33:07] kid we

[00:33:07] lived in

[00:33:08] a small

[00:33:08] isolated

[00:33:09] house on

[00:33:10] the edge

[00:33:10] of a

[00:33:11] half

[00:33:11] developed

[00:33:11] neighborhood.

[00:33:13] There were

[00:33:14] only about

[00:33:14] six houses

[00:33:15] on our

[00:33:15] block and

[00:33:17] ours was

[00:33:17] the last

[00:33:18] one before

[00:33:18] many

[00:33:19] overgrown

[00:33:19] weeds and

[00:33:20] empty

[00:33:20] land

[00:33:21] stretched

[00:33:21] out into

[00:33:22] the

[00:33:22] dark.

[00:33:23] At

[00:33:24] night the

[00:33:25] area was

[00:33:25] deserted

[00:33:26] and you'd

[00:33:27] rarely see

[00:33:27] anyone

[00:33:28] stepping

[00:33:28] outside.

[00:33:30] I

[00:33:30] lived there

[00:33:31] from the

[00:33:31] ages of

[00:33:32] seven to

[00:33:32] thirteen and

[00:33:34] looking back

[00:33:35] it felt like I

[00:33:36] was trapped

[00:33:36] inside one of

[00:33:37] those disturbing

[00:33:38] uncanny horror

[00:33:40] films where

[00:33:40] reality always

[00:33:41] seems just a

[00:33:42] little bit

[00:33:43] off.

[00:33:44] Before I

[00:33:45] dive into

[00:33:45] the incidents

[00:33:46] it's worth

[00:33:47] mentioning that

[00:33:47] our life in

[00:33:48] that house was

[00:33:49] filled with a

[00:33:49] sense of

[00:33:50] suffocating

[00:33:51] dread.

[00:33:52] Financially

[00:33:53] we struggled

[00:33:54] a lot during

[00:33:54] those years

[00:33:55] drowning in

[00:33:56] death.

[00:33:58] Strangely

[00:33:58] though

[00:33:58] things turned

[00:33:59] around for

[00:34:00] us as

[00:34:00] soon as

[00:34:01] we moved

[00:34:01] out.

[00:34:02] Family

[00:34:03] fights

[00:34:03] erupted

[00:34:04] daily and

[00:34:05] I remember

[00:34:05] feeling terrified

[00:34:06] constantly.

[00:34:08] I remember

[00:34:09] not going

[00:34:09] too far

[00:34:10] into any

[00:34:10] room so

[00:34:11] that if

[00:34:12] anything

[00:34:12] jumped out

[00:34:13] I could

[00:34:14] run through

[00:34:14] the door

[00:34:14] easily.

[00:34:15] I don't

[00:34:16] know why

[00:34:17] I did

[00:34:17] that to

[00:34:17] be honest.

[00:34:19] Here are

[00:34:20] some of

[00:34:20] the events

[00:34:20] that made

[00:34:21] me believe

[00:34:21] that something

[00:34:22] was haunting

[00:34:23] us.

[00:34:24] Incident

[00:34:25] 1

[00:34:25] the unseen

[00:34:26] watcher

[00:34:28] I remember

[00:34:29] staying home

[00:34:30] from school

[00:34:31] one day

[00:34:31] because I

[00:34:31] was sick.

[00:34:32] I was

[00:34:33] curled up

[00:34:34] on the

[00:34:34] couch

[00:34:34] watching

[00:34:35] Barney

[00:34:35] trying to

[00:34:36] distract

[00:34:36] myself

[00:34:37] from the

[00:34:37] eerie

[00:34:38] feeling

[00:34:38] of the

[00:34:38] house.

[00:34:40] At some

[00:34:41] point I

[00:34:41] felt someone

[00:34:42] standing

[00:34:43] beside me.

[00:34:44] I assumed

[00:34:45] it was my

[00:34:46] mom joining

[00:34:46] me to

[00:34:46] watch the

[00:34:47] show so

[00:34:48] I didn't

[00:34:48] think much

[00:34:49] of it.

[00:34:50] A few

[00:34:51] minutes

[00:34:51] passed and

[00:34:52] I casually

[00:34:52] asked her

[00:34:53] something.

[00:34:54] There was

[00:34:55] no response.

[00:34:56] I asked

[00:34:57] her one

[00:34:58] more time

[00:34:58] and again

[00:34:59] there was

[00:35:00] no response.

[00:35:01] So I

[00:35:02] turned and

[00:35:03] I found

[00:35:03] no one

[00:35:04] there.

[00:35:05] That's

[00:35:06] when it

[00:35:06] hit me.

[00:35:07] My mom

[00:35:07] wasn't even

[00:35:08] home.

[00:35:09] She had

[00:35:09] left for

[00:35:10] work hours

[00:35:10] ago and

[00:35:11] I was

[00:35:12] completely

[00:35:12] alone in

[00:35:13] the house.

[00:35:14] This

[00:35:15] freaked me

[00:35:15] out and

[00:35:16] I opened

[00:35:16] the front

[00:35:17] door and

[00:35:18] sat on

[00:35:18] the porch

[00:35:19] until my

[00:35:19] parents came

[00:35:20] home because

[00:35:21] it felt

[00:35:22] so real.

[00:35:23] It felt

[00:35:24] like someone

[00:35:24] was actually

[00:35:25] there.

[00:35:27] Incident

[00:35:28] 2.

[00:35:29] The

[00:35:29] yellow

[00:35:29] ball

[00:35:30] and

[00:35:30] the

[00:35:30] swarm.

[00:35:32] This

[00:35:33] incident

[00:35:33] happened to

[00:35:34] my sister

[00:35:34] but I'll

[00:35:35] explain it

[00:35:36] from my

[00:35:36] perspective.

[00:35:37] We all

[00:35:38] used to

[00:35:39] sleep in

[00:35:39] the same

[00:35:39] room since

[00:35:41] our house

[00:35:41] only had

[00:35:41] one bedroom.

[00:35:43] My

[00:35:43] sister and

[00:35:44] I would

[00:35:44] sleep in

[00:35:45] between

[00:35:45] our

[00:35:45] parents

[00:35:46] to feel

[00:35:46] safe.

[00:35:47] One

[00:35:48] night she

[00:35:48] was studying

[00:35:49] for a

[00:35:49] test in

[00:35:50] the living

[00:35:50] room.

[00:35:51] At

[00:35:52] around

[00:35:52] 1230 in

[00:35:53] the morning

[00:35:53] I started

[00:35:54] to fall

[00:35:55] asleep when

[00:35:56] suddenly my

[00:35:57] sister burst

[00:35:58] through the

[00:35:59] door and

[00:36:00] jumped on

[00:36:00] the bed crying

[00:36:02] and scared.

[00:36:04] After calming

[00:36:05] her down she

[00:36:06] told us what

[00:36:06] happened.

[00:36:07] She was in

[00:36:08] the living

[00:36:09] room studying

[00:36:10] for a test

[00:36:10] when out

[00:36:11] of nowhere a

[00:36:13] yellow ball

[00:36:13] with a smiley

[00:36:14] face on it

[00:36:15] rolled into the

[00:36:16] hallway from

[00:36:17] the other

[00:36:17] room and

[00:36:18] as it came

[00:36:19] to a stop

[00:36:20] dozens of

[00:36:21] cockroaches

[00:36:22] scurried out

[00:36:22] from the

[00:36:23] same room

[00:36:23] like they

[00:36:25] do when

[00:36:25] they hear

[00:36:25] humans

[00:36:26] walking.

[00:36:27] Our

[00:36:28] house had

[00:36:28] a serious

[00:36:29] cockroach

[00:36:30] problem.

[00:36:30] The floors

[00:36:31] practically came

[00:36:32] alive with

[00:36:33] them at

[00:36:33] night.

[00:36:34] She set a

[00:36:35] heavy sense

[00:36:35] of dread

[00:36:36] washed over

[00:36:37] her as

[00:36:38] she stared

[00:36:38] into the

[00:36:39] dark

[00:36:39] hallway.

[00:36:40] Then

[00:36:41] she saw

[00:36:42] it.

[00:36:43] A

[00:36:43] shadowy

[00:36:44] figure

[00:36:44] emerging

[00:36:45] from the

[00:36:46] darkness,

[00:36:47] moving in

[00:36:48] a way that

[00:36:49] made her

[00:36:49] feel cold

[00:36:50] all over.

[00:36:52] She told us

[00:36:53] that she

[00:36:53] felt stuck

[00:36:54] for a

[00:36:54] second and

[00:36:55] frozen fear

[00:36:56] before running

[00:36:57] to the

[00:36:57] bedroom.

[00:36:59] Incident

[00:37:00] 3.

[00:37:01] The

[00:37:01] Disappearing

[00:37:02] Glasses

[00:37:04] My dad

[00:37:05] couldn't

[00:37:05] find his

[00:37:05] glasses one

[00:37:06] morning.

[00:37:07] He had

[00:37:07] recently

[00:37:08] undergone

[00:37:08] cataract

[00:37:09] surgery,

[00:37:10] so they

[00:37:10] were essential.

[00:37:12] The whole

[00:37:12] family spent

[00:37:13] what felt

[00:37:14] like hours

[00:37:14] scouring

[00:37:15] every inch

[00:37:16] of the

[00:37:16] house.

[00:37:17] We checked

[00:37:18] his shelf

[00:37:19] multiple

[00:37:19] times,

[00:37:20] which was

[00:37:21] where he

[00:37:21] usually kept

[00:37:22] them,

[00:37:22] but they

[00:37:23] were nowhere

[00:37:23] to be

[00:37:24] found.

[00:37:25] We left

[00:37:26] for school,

[00:37:27] defeated

[00:37:28] and convinced

[00:37:28] that the

[00:37:29] glasses were

[00:37:29] gone for

[00:37:30] good.

[00:37:31] But later

[00:37:32] that evening,

[00:37:33] as we were

[00:37:33] sitting around,

[00:37:35] my dad

[00:37:35] suddenly called

[00:37:36] out to my

[00:37:37] mom,

[00:37:38] sounding

[00:37:38] almost angry.

[00:37:40] We rushed

[00:37:41] over to

[00:37:42] find the

[00:37:42] glasses sitting

[00:37:43] right there

[00:37:44] on the

[00:37:44] shelf,

[00:37:45] exactly

[00:37:46] where we

[00:37:46] had checked

[00:37:47] over and

[00:37:47] over again.

[00:37:49] My dad

[00:37:50] thought we

[00:37:50] were playing

[00:37:50] a prank

[00:37:51] on him,

[00:37:51] but we

[00:37:52] weren't.

[00:37:53] There was

[00:37:54] no explanation

[00:37:55] for how they

[00:37:55] could have

[00:37:56] reappeared like

[00:37:57] that.

[00:37:57] And it

[00:37:58] wasn't him

[00:37:59] pranking us

[00:37:59] either.

[00:38:00] He was

[00:38:01] clearly mad

[00:38:02] that whole

[00:38:02] day.

[00:38:04] Incident

[00:38:05] 4.

[00:38:06] The Mysterious

[00:38:07] Fortune Teller

[00:38:09] How would

[00:38:09] you feel

[00:38:10] if a

[00:38:10] random,

[00:38:11] creepy-looking

[00:38:11] guy stood

[00:38:12] in front

[00:38:12] of your

[00:38:13] house and

[00:38:14] started

[00:38:14] chanting?

[00:38:16] Well,

[00:38:16] in South

[00:38:17] Indian

[00:38:17] culture,

[00:38:18] there's a

[00:38:18] figure known

[00:38:19] as a

[00:38:19] Kudu

[00:38:20] Gudupu.

[00:38:20] I probably

[00:38:21] mispronounced

[00:38:22] that.

[00:38:23] I have not

[00:38:23] heard much

[00:38:24] about them,

[00:38:25] but they are

[00:38:25] like devotees

[00:38:26] of God

[00:38:27] who roam

[00:38:27] the streets

[00:38:28] and randomly

[00:38:29] tell fortunes

[00:38:30] to people.

[00:38:31] But most

[00:38:32] people avoid

[00:38:33] them,

[00:38:33] fearing that

[00:38:34] his predictions

[00:38:35] might bring

[00:38:36] misfortune.

[00:38:37] my first

[00:38:38] encounter

[00:38:39] with one

[00:38:39] of them

[00:38:39] was when

[00:38:40] I was

[00:38:40] young.

[00:38:41] I remember

[00:38:42] hearing a

[00:38:43] man singing

[00:38:43] some kind

[00:38:44] of religious

[00:38:45] song,

[00:38:45] just a few

[00:38:46] meters from

[00:38:47] our doorstep.

[00:38:49] I went to

[00:38:50] check on it,

[00:38:50] but my mom

[00:38:51] quickly grabbed

[00:38:52] me and told

[00:38:53] me to be

[00:38:53] silent and

[00:38:55] not to make

[00:38:55] any sound.

[00:38:57] We pretended

[00:38:58] like nobody

[00:38:59] was home,

[00:38:59] and eventually

[00:39:00] he went

[00:39:01] away.

[00:39:02] I was so

[00:39:03] confused and

[00:39:04] asked my mom

[00:39:05] who he was,

[00:39:05] but she

[00:39:06] didn't explain

[00:39:07] and just

[00:39:08] brushed the

[00:39:09] whole thing

[00:39:09] off.

[00:39:11] Years later,

[00:39:12] as the

[00:39:13] strange

[00:39:13] happenings

[00:39:14] in our

[00:39:14] house

[00:39:14] grew more

[00:39:15] intense,

[00:39:16] a similar

[00:39:16] figure began

[00:39:17] appearing near

[00:39:18] our house

[00:39:19] while my

[00:39:19] dad was

[00:39:20] home alone.

[00:39:21] For several

[00:39:22] days,

[00:39:23] this man

[00:39:23] stood near

[00:39:24] our door,

[00:39:25] chanting and

[00:39:26] seemingly

[00:39:26] delivering

[00:39:27] cryptic

[00:39:27] messages at

[00:39:28] night.

[00:39:30] Finally,

[00:39:31] my dad

[00:39:31] confronted him,

[00:39:33] telling him

[00:39:33] to stay

[00:39:34] away.

[00:39:35] I never

[00:39:36] saw the

[00:39:36] man again

[00:39:37] after that,

[00:39:37] but I

[00:39:38] couldn't

[00:39:38] shake the

[00:39:39] feeling that

[00:39:39] his presence

[00:39:40] was somehow

[00:39:41] connected to

[00:39:42] the disturbances.

[00:39:45] Incident 5,

[00:39:46] the chanting

[00:39:47] yogi.

[00:39:48] my sister

[00:39:49] also had

[00:39:50] recurring

[00:39:50] nightmares

[00:39:51] while we

[00:39:51] lived there.

[00:39:53] She remembers

[00:39:54] one in

[00:39:54] particular

[00:39:55] that

[00:39:55] terrified

[00:39:55] her.

[00:39:56] She would

[00:39:57] wake up

[00:39:57] to a

[00:39:58] vivid

[00:39:58] vision

[00:39:58] of a

[00:39:59] figure,

[00:40:00] like a

[00:40:00] yogi

[00:40:01] or a

[00:40:01] mystic,

[00:40:02] sitting on

[00:40:03] her chest,

[00:40:04] chanting

[00:40:04] in an

[00:40:05] unknown

[00:40:05] language.

[00:40:07] She could

[00:40:07] feel his

[00:40:08] weight

[00:40:08] pressing

[00:40:09] down on

[00:40:09] her,

[00:40:10] making it

[00:40:11] almost

[00:40:11] impossible

[00:40:12] to breathe.

[00:40:13] This

[00:40:14] vision

[00:40:14] plagued her

[00:40:15] until we

[00:40:15] left that

[00:40:16] house for

[00:40:16] good.

[00:40:17] We

[00:40:18] finally

[00:40:18] moved out

[00:40:19] of that

[00:40:19] place,

[00:40:20] and to

[00:40:21] our relief,

[00:40:22] the strange

[00:40:22] experiences

[00:40:23] almost

[00:40:24] entirely

[00:40:24] stopped.

[00:40:26] Our

[00:40:27] financial

[00:40:27] situation

[00:40:28] improved,

[00:40:29] the family

[00:40:30] conflicts

[00:40:30] became less

[00:40:31] frequent,

[00:40:32] and that

[00:40:33] constant

[00:40:33] creepy

[00:40:34] fear

[00:40:34] seemed

[00:40:35] to lift.

[00:40:36] I can't

[00:40:37] explain what

[00:40:38] was happening

[00:40:38] in that

[00:40:39] house,

[00:40:40] but living

[00:40:40] there always

[00:40:41] felt like I

[00:40:42] was stuck in

[00:40:42] a disturbing

[00:40:43] horror film,

[00:40:44] one that I

[00:40:45] desperately

[00:40:45] wanted to

[00:40:46] escape.

[00:41:07] Parker's

[00:41:08] story seems

[00:41:08] simple on

[00:41:09] the surface,

[00:41:10] but I

[00:41:10] think it

[00:41:10] has some

[00:41:11] interesting

[00:41:11] layers.

[00:41:12] The mom

[00:41:13] and brother

[00:41:13] both on

[00:41:14] separate

[00:41:14] occasions

[00:41:15] think they

[00:41:15] interacted

[00:41:16] with Parker,

[00:41:17] but it

[00:41:17] ended up

[00:41:18] apparently

[00:41:18] being Parker's

[00:41:19] doppelganger.

[00:41:20] Yeah,

[00:41:21] I wonder if

[00:41:22] something runs

[00:41:23] in the

[00:41:23] family,

[00:41:23] because then

[00:41:24] Parker

[00:41:25] heard them

[00:41:26] both calling

[00:41:27] out their

[00:41:28] name just

[00:41:28] minutes apart.

[00:41:29] Yeah,

[00:41:30] that's what I

[00:41:30] mean by all

[00:41:31] the interesting

[00:41:32] layers.

[00:41:32] The mom and

[00:41:33] brother each

[00:41:33] have an

[00:41:34] experience that's

[00:41:35] like,

[00:41:35] oh wait,

[00:41:36] that's not

[00:41:36] you,

[00:41:36] Parker.

[00:41:37] And Parker

[00:41:38] later had that

[00:41:38] experience where

[00:41:39] he heard his

[00:41:40] mom and brother

[00:41:41] call for him

[00:41:41] separately,

[00:41:42] but it ended

[00:41:43] up not being

[00:41:44] them.

[00:41:45] Maybe

[00:41:46] it's a mimic.

[00:41:47] Yeah,

[00:41:48] perhaps.

[00:41:48] I do want to

[00:41:49] talk about the

[00:41:50] name Parker

[00:41:50] though.

[00:41:51] I have a bone

[00:41:51] to pick with

[00:41:52] that one.

[00:41:53] Well,

[00:41:54] I don't know

[00:41:54] what's there to

[00:41:55] talk about.

[00:41:56] No,

[00:41:57] I'm kidding.

[00:41:57] I mean,

[00:41:58] at least not

[00:41:59] Parker

[00:41:59] specifically.

[00:41:59] I was just

[00:42:00] thinking about

[00:42:01] names that are

[00:42:02] basically verbs

[00:42:03] or at least

[00:42:04] seem like they

[00:42:04] are.

[00:42:05] Like if your

[00:42:06] last name were

[00:42:06] Tater,

[00:42:07] I'd be wondering

[00:42:08] what does a

[00:42:09] tater do?

[00:42:10] Yeah,

[00:42:10] I thought about

[00:42:11] that too.

[00:42:11] Someone who

[00:42:12] tates.

[00:42:13] And you've

[00:42:13] been a tater

[00:42:14] all along.

[00:42:15] I'm the

[00:42:15] Tate.

[00:42:17] The signs

[00:42:17] were all

[00:42:18] there.

[00:42:18] How could

[00:42:18] I have not

[00:42:18] known?

[00:42:19] I think about

[00:42:20] that too,

[00:42:21] to be honest.

[00:42:22] I knew somebody

[00:42:23] with the last

[00:42:24] name Poacher

[00:42:25] and I was

[00:42:26] always wondering

[00:42:26] like how did

[00:42:27] their family

[00:42:28] end up with

[00:42:28] that one

[00:42:29] and why?

[00:42:30] Yeah,

[00:42:30] did their

[00:42:31] ancestors

[00:42:32] discover the

[00:42:33] perfect formula

[00:42:33] for boiling

[00:42:35] poached eggs

[00:42:35] or are they

[00:42:37] forever on

[00:42:37] the run

[00:42:38] from Fish and

[00:42:38] Game?

[00:42:39] I don't know.

[00:42:40] Yeah,

[00:42:40] it makes me

[00:42:40] think of the

[00:42:41] bad guy in

[00:42:42] The Rescuers

[00:42:43] Down Under.

[00:42:44] Oh yeah,

[00:42:45] Joanna!

[00:42:46] Yeah,

[00:42:47] yeah.

[00:42:47] But when in

[00:42:48] doubt,

[00:42:48] always ask.

[00:42:49] Yeah,

[00:42:49] demand

[00:42:50] explanations.

[00:42:51] Yeah,

[00:42:52] definitely.

[00:42:53] So I do

[00:42:55] love Sobelow's

[00:42:56] stories.

[00:42:57] Great storyteller

[00:42:58] with a lot of

[00:42:58] creepy experiences

[00:42:59] I can see.

[00:43:00] Yeah,

[00:43:01] yeah,

[00:43:01] I'll always

[00:43:02] feature any

[00:43:03] of the stories

[00:43:03] that they're

[00:43:04] willing to

[00:43:04] share.

[00:43:04] It seems

[00:43:05] like they

[00:43:05] have plenty.

[00:43:06] At first I

[00:43:07] thought it

[00:43:07] could have

[00:43:07] been like

[00:43:07] an Amish

[00:43:08] person and

[00:43:09] a horse

[00:43:09] and buggy,

[00:43:10] but the

[00:43:11] author mentioned

[00:43:11] they hadn't

[00:43:12] seen anything

[00:43:12] like that

[00:43:13] before,

[00:43:13] so I

[00:43:14] don't know.

[00:43:14] Yeah,

[00:43:15] yeah,

[00:43:15] you'd expect

[00:43:16] two girls

[00:43:16] living on

[00:43:17] that same

[00:43:17] road that

[00:43:19] they would

[00:43:19] know about

[00:43:20] an Amish

[00:43:20] community in

[00:43:21] their area.

[00:43:22] You would

[00:43:22] think.

[00:43:23] Yeah,

[00:43:23] I know that

[00:43:24] there are a

[00:43:24] decent amount

[00:43:25] of Amish

[00:43:25] communities in

[00:43:26] upstate New

[00:43:26] York,

[00:43:27] so it's not

[00:43:27] completely out

[00:43:28] of the realm

[00:43:29] of possibility,

[00:43:29] but the

[00:43:30] house was,

[00:43:32] you know,

[00:43:32] at the end

[00:43:33] of the road

[00:43:34] and there was

[00:43:34] nothing else

[00:43:35] out there.

[00:43:35] It's like the

[00:43:36] carriage was headed

[00:43:37] out there to

[00:43:38] nowhere and

[00:43:39] then it just

[00:43:39] disappeared.

[00:43:41] Yeah,

[00:43:41] it doesn't

[00:43:41] really make

[00:43:42] much sense

[00:43:42] because like

[00:43:43] you said,

[00:43:43] you would

[00:43:43] definitely know

[00:43:44] if there was

[00:43:44] an Amish

[00:43:45] community right

[00:43:46] near your

[00:43:46] home,

[00:43:47] especially on

[00:43:47] such an

[00:43:48] empty road

[00:43:48] that doesn't

[00:43:49] really lead

[00:43:49] to anywhere.

[00:43:50] Yeah,

[00:43:51] you know,

[00:43:52] their story

[00:43:52] reminded me of

[00:43:53] the first time

[00:43:53] I got my

[00:43:53] ticket.

[00:43:54] Did you get

[00:43:55] a DUI on

[00:43:55] a horse?

[00:43:57] No,

[00:43:58] no,

[00:43:58] it was a

[00:43:59] 95 Saturn.

[00:44:00] I thought

[00:44:00] that it was

[00:44:01] hideous at

[00:44:01] the time,

[00:44:02] but I've

[00:44:02] looked at

[00:44:03] pictures of it

[00:44:03] now and it

[00:44:04] actually looked

[00:44:04] kind of

[00:44:05] cool.

[00:44:05] But it

[00:44:06] wasn't a DUI

[00:44:08] No,

[00:44:09] it wasn't a DUI.

[00:44:10] I've never

[00:44:10] done that.

[00:44:11] Okay,

[00:44:12] good,

[00:44:12] good.

[00:44:12] Yeah,

[00:44:13] I mean,

[00:44:13] that's just how

[00:44:13] things go.

[00:44:14] You never

[00:44:14] really know

[00:44:15] what you have

[00:44:15] until it's

[00:44:15] gone.

[00:44:16] Like the

[00:44:16] Mustang.

[00:44:17] Remember the

[00:44:17] Mustang era?

[00:44:18] That was

[00:44:18] fun.

[00:44:19] Oh,

[00:44:19] we had good

[00:44:20] fun in that

[00:44:21] Mustang.

[00:44:21] Yes,

[00:44:21] we did.

[00:44:23] Yeah.

[00:44:24] Anyways,

[00:44:25] I apologize if

[00:44:25] I've told this

[00:44:26] story before on

[00:44:26] the show,

[00:44:27] but I'm

[00:44:27] going to do

[00:44:27] it.

[00:44:28] Yeah,

[00:44:28] no,

[00:44:29] as far as

[00:44:29] I know,

[00:44:30] we haven't

[00:44:30] aired the same

[00:44:31] story twice

[00:44:31] unless it was

[00:44:32] one of like the

[00:44:33] compilation episodes.

[00:44:33] So I think as

[00:44:34] long as we

[00:44:35] avoid that

[00:44:36] knock on wood,

[00:44:37] we can repeat

[00:44:39] ourselves here

[00:44:39] without much

[00:44:40] consequence.

[00:44:41] That's just how

[00:44:41] conversations go.

[00:44:43] Yeah,

[00:44:43] yeah.

[00:44:44] So it was the

[00:44:45] opening night of

[00:44:46] Star Wars Revenge

[00:44:47] of the Sith.

[00:44:49] And it was a

[00:44:50] late showing.

[00:44:50] I can't remember

[00:44:51] what time we got

[00:44:52] out,

[00:44:52] but it was

[00:44:52] really close to

[00:44:53] my curfew.

[00:44:54] And yeah,

[00:44:56] I did have a

[00:44:57] curfew.

[00:44:57] I was a

[00:44:58] sheltered kid.

[00:44:59] Aw,

[00:44:59] sweet little boy

[00:45:00] Tate and his

[00:45:01] caring parents.

[00:45:02] Yeah,

[00:45:02] you'd think.

[00:45:03] Anyway.

[00:45:04] Wait,

[00:45:04] wait,

[00:45:04] are you saying

[00:45:05] like,

[00:45:05] are you not

[00:45:06] sweet or

[00:45:06] your parents

[00:45:06] not caring?

[00:45:07] This is,

[00:45:07] we got to

[00:45:08] dive deeper

[00:45:08] on this one

[00:45:09] impromptu

[00:45:10] therapy session.

[00:45:11] It was just

[00:45:12] a joke.

[00:45:13] Oh,

[00:45:13] okay.

[00:45:14] It's not that

[00:45:14] deep.

[00:45:15] No,

[00:45:15] it's not that

[00:45:15] deep.

[00:45:16] Okay,

[00:45:16] we'll proceed.

[00:45:18] Yeah,

[00:45:18] so I was

[00:45:18] with a friend

[00:45:19] that I had

[00:45:20] to take home

[00:45:20] in a hurry,

[00:45:22] but we ran

[00:45:23] into two of

[00:45:24] his friends

[00:45:25] after the movie.

[00:45:26] These were

[00:45:26] two girls

[00:45:27] that didn't

[00:45:27] have a ride

[00:45:28] home,

[00:45:28] so we offered

[00:45:28] to take them

[00:45:29] home.

[00:45:30] But we had

[00:45:31] the curfew

[00:45:32] thing.

[00:45:32] They took

[00:45:33] us all

[00:45:33] over town,

[00:45:34] and I mean

[00:45:35] like back roads

[00:45:36] and places

[00:45:36] that I had

[00:45:37] never been

[00:45:37] before,

[00:45:38] and the

[00:45:39] thing is,

[00:45:40] they had

[00:45:40] no idea

[00:45:41] where they

[00:45:42] lived.

[00:45:43] How does

[00:45:43] that even

[00:45:44] happen?

[00:45:44] I mean,

[00:45:45] I guess this

[00:45:46] is probably

[00:45:46] before the

[00:45:47] time of

[00:45:47] maps on our

[00:45:48] on our

[00:45:48] phones and

[00:45:49] all that

[00:45:49] and widespread

[00:45:50] GPS,

[00:45:51] but still,

[00:45:51] I don't know

[00:45:53] how people

[00:45:53] could be

[00:45:53] comfortable

[00:45:54] leaving their

[00:45:54] house without

[00:45:55] knowing exactly

[00:45:56] how to get

[00:45:56] back home.

[00:45:57] That's what

[00:45:58] I thought,

[00:45:58] and I don't

[00:45:59] remember if

[00:46:00] they even

[00:46:00] had an

[00:46:00] explanation on

[00:46:01] I can only

[00:46:02] guess that

[00:46:02] they had

[00:46:02] never been

[00:46:03] to the

[00:46:03] movie theater

[00:46:03] or that

[00:46:04] part of

[00:46:04] town,

[00:46:05] which it's

[00:46:05] weird because

[00:46:06] we know what

[00:46:06] town we're

[00:46:07] talking about.

[00:46:07] It's very

[00:46:08] small.

[00:46:08] Yeah,

[00:46:09] yeah.

[00:46:10] Yeah,

[00:46:10] they didn't

[00:46:10] have a good

[00:46:11] explanation.

[00:46:11] When I look

[00:46:12] back on it

[00:46:12] now,

[00:46:12] it feels like

[00:46:13] they were

[00:46:13] messing with

[00:46:14] me,

[00:46:15] but they

[00:46:16] were so

[00:46:16] apologetic and

[00:46:17] upset at

[00:46:18] themselves.

[00:46:18] It just

[00:46:18] didn't

[00:46:19] make any

[00:46:19] sense.

[00:46:20] Yeah,

[00:46:20] that's

[00:46:20] really

[00:46:21] bizarre.

[00:46:21] I don't

[00:46:21] see the

[00:46:23] gain there.

[00:46:23] It just

[00:46:24] wastes

[00:46:24] everybody's

[00:46:25] time.

[00:46:26] Yeah,

[00:46:26] it took me

[00:46:27] like an

[00:46:27] hour or two

[00:46:27] just to

[00:46:28] find their

[00:46:28] house and

[00:46:29] it was on

[00:46:29] the outskirts

[00:46:30] of town.

[00:46:31] Then I had

[00:46:31] to find my

[00:46:32] way back

[00:46:32] into town,

[00:46:33] obviously

[00:46:34] without maps

[00:46:34] on my phone

[00:46:35] or anything,

[00:46:36] and I had

[00:46:36] to drop my

[00:46:36] friend off and

[00:46:37] then try to

[00:46:37] get home.

[00:46:38] Okay,

[00:46:39] I got you.

[00:46:39] So you were

[00:46:40] probably speeding

[00:46:41] to avoid

[00:46:41] breaking your

[00:46:42] curfew,

[00:46:43] pissing off

[00:46:43] mama bear.

[00:46:44] Yeah,

[00:46:45] exactly.

[00:46:45] And I was

[00:46:46] speeding by

[00:46:47] a high school,

[00:46:48] which makes it

[00:46:49] worse.

[00:46:49] And,

[00:46:50] you know,

[00:46:50] I had to

[00:46:50] get my

[00:46:50] friend home

[00:46:51] and a

[00:46:51] cop pulled

[00:46:52] me over,

[00:46:52] not because

[00:46:53] I was speeding,

[00:46:54] but because

[00:46:54] I had my

[00:46:54] lights off.

[00:46:56] I mean,

[00:46:57] I would say

[00:46:57] that's a lot

[00:46:58] more dangerous

[00:46:59] than the

[00:46:59] speeding itself.

[00:47:01] I agree.

[00:47:03] Well,

[00:47:03] maybe the

[00:47:04] adrenaline

[00:47:04] gave you

[00:47:04] night vision,

[00:47:05] so I can't

[00:47:06] fault you too

[00:47:06] bad.

[00:47:07] Yeah,

[00:47:08] it must have

[00:47:08] been that

[00:47:08] because I was

[00:47:09] seeing just

[00:47:10] fine as far

[00:47:10] as I can

[00:47:11] remember.

[00:47:13] Anyway,

[00:47:13] he gave me a

[00:47:14] ticket and I

[00:47:14] got grounded

[00:47:15] and yelled at.

[00:47:16] It was a

[00:47:16] nightmare of a

[00:47:17] night and I'll

[00:47:18] never ever

[00:47:19] forget it.

[00:47:20] What's so sad

[00:47:21] is that you

[00:47:21] weren't even up

[00:47:22] to any trouble.

[00:47:23] You were just

[00:47:23] trying to help

[00:47:24] out those two

[00:47:24] girls and help

[00:47:25] them get home.

[00:47:26] Yeah.

[00:47:26] And you still

[00:47:27] beat your

[00:47:27] curfew,

[00:47:28] but because you

[00:47:28] got that ticket,

[00:47:29] oh no.

[00:47:31] Yeah,

[00:47:31] yeah,

[00:47:31] it still got

[00:47:32] grounded.

[00:47:32] It sucked,

[00:47:33] but at least I

[00:47:33] didn't come

[00:47:34] across some ghost

[00:47:34] carriage.

[00:47:35] Wild drunk.

[00:47:37] Yeah,

[00:47:38] exactly.

[00:47:39] Yeah.

[00:47:39] Yeah.

[00:47:40] So I noticed

[00:47:41] that in Death

[00:47:42] Turkey's story

[00:47:43] about the ghost

[00:47:44] town,

[00:47:44] the kids all

[00:47:45] saw a different

[00:47:46] person at the

[00:47:47] counter of the

[00:47:47] motel office,

[00:47:48] but they didn't

[00:47:49] tell us who

[00:47:50] the mom saw

[00:47:51] when she talked

[00:47:51] to them.

[00:47:52] Yeah,

[00:47:53] so yeah,

[00:47:53] they all saw

[00:47:54] the person

[00:47:54] as a different

[00:47:55] type of

[00:47:56] person.

[00:47:57] They just

[00:47:58] portrayed

[00:47:59] themselves or

[00:47:59] they projected

[00:48:00] themselves differently

[00:48:01] to each person.

[00:48:02] That was actually

[00:48:03] addressed online.

[00:48:04] She unfortunately

[00:48:05] passed away a few

[00:48:06] years ago,

[00:48:06] so they didn't get

[00:48:07] a chance to talk

[00:48:07] to her about it

[00:48:08] when they shared

[00:48:08] the story.

[00:48:09] That's too bad.

[00:48:10] Rest in peace,

[00:48:11] mom.

[00:48:12] Yes,

[00:48:12] definitely.

[00:48:13] They did say

[00:48:14] that they thought

[00:48:15] she saw an

[00:48:16] older man,

[00:48:17] man,

[00:48:18] but he didn't

[00:48:18] quite have the

[00:48:19] same features

[00:48:19] that the author

[00:48:20] saw.

[00:48:21] Oh,

[00:48:22] another story

[00:48:22] that just

[00:48:23] barely dips

[00:48:24] its toes into

[00:48:24] the paranormal,

[00:48:25] but I love

[00:48:25] those ones.

[00:48:26] Yeah,

[00:48:27] me too.

[00:48:27] It's so much

[00:48:28] more impactful

[00:48:29] when it's subtle

[00:48:30] like that,

[00:48:31] all those creepy

[00:48:32] yellow eyes

[00:48:33] from behind

[00:48:33] the dumpster.

[00:48:34] Yeah,

[00:48:35] it's such a

[00:48:35] haunting image

[00:48:36] like a

[00:48:36] jack-o-lantern

[00:48:37] or something.

[00:48:38] Yeah,

[00:48:38] I agree,

[00:48:39] I agree.
